Ok... I have some ISA cards. I admit it... they're not all that bad and I'll always have hardware around that can use them... I do like seeing pci only mb's out there and will welcome a wider acceptance of usb (let's get those prices down) soon.
I, however, don't see myself using something like that for a few years yet....
RANT!!!!!
Am I the only person out there that refuses to buy a damn celery or p-II p-III system because they don't have any freakin boards that DON'T use that atrocity called PS/2 ???
KILL IT!!!! What kind of a freakin moron came up with the idea of an architecture that REQUIRES a freakin REBOOT when the device comes unplugged??
I LOVE the fact (with my old AT style keyboard) that I can unplug EVERYTHING from my server after setup... and.... if I ever (god forbid) HAVE to physically sit on it for something I can't do over the network... I can just plug in my keyboard monitor and SERIAL mouse (if necessary) and go to work.
Hello!!! Isn't there ANYONE else out there that agrees that PS/2 must die?
End Rant... *sigh* Thanx a whole freakin lot ibm... and thanx to the idiots in the industry for continuing retarded architecture.
I wouldn't mind wearing a headgear deal (given it wasn't toooo big... ya know? ) if it was capable of a few things.
Integrated with my whole house through voice command. I would love to turn on the stereo and switch cd's from anywhere in the house. Turn off the front porch light when I'm in the backyard with the 8" Telescope. Talk to my circle of friends without having to go through the whole phone/busy-signal/voic-mail junk.... (I have a few ideas on that one.) See who's at the front door.... From work. Re-route my HOUSE line through the head-gear.. (transparently) Check my e-mail. Open doors. Change lights. Set oven temp (no... I don't want auto cooked crap) And of course cramming VR into it so I can handle e-mail, web-browsing, site building, report genration, etc. etc. etc... that would make it infinitely better.
Dangit.. Every year it's the same thing... they promise us vegetables.. and then at the last minute, they take them away. We're hungry computer folks out here people....I don't care if they're frozen or not... I actually prefer them piping hot... with lots of cheese and sour cream w/chives... Yummmm;>
Do you think they could pass out holiday Ramen blocks in the meantime? Mmmmm... crunchy!:P
Besides the obvious baby-boom in 9 months... The cessation of all TV tomorrow would not be a bad thing. Network TV turns your brain to cottage cheese and it dribbles out on your pillow when you sleep. Cable programming isn't much better.
If there was cable/satellite service that offered educational-only programming... I might subscribe. Even then I still wouldn't watch it that much.
Life is too short to watch fantasies all day.
Do yourself a favor and pick up a book... even if it's fiction you'll still be working your brain cells more than tv.
Walked in one day and walked right past her. (she was new) Went and sat down at my desk and started to work. Got up a minute later (just flat out had to) and introduced myself to her.
First time in my life I ever felt I just HAD to introduce myself right away.
All my previous gf's and so's I always took my time from when I met them first, till getting around to knowing them better.
Not so with my wife. Saw her... Had to meet her... We hit it off famously (despite my lack of haircuts and ratty stained clothes) and were married appx. 2 months later.
She's a geek grrl (though she won't admit it) as well as quite a sophisticate.
Oh yeah, don't judge a book by it's cover either. I love looking good for my wife and she appreciates it as well, but I attract young female attention when I dress nice. As a result I normally wear ratty clothes most places when she's not with me. It's interesting to see the types of people that dismiss me out of hand when I dress that way. Then note their reactions when they meet me in my 'Presentable' state. Personally I find most of it disgusting. *shrug*
REAL people usually don't pay attention to dress.
There are good geek guys out there... most of us just don't want to be bothered to get the really pretty feathers out of the closet from behind all our computer equipment.
All I can say is... talk... to a lot of people.... The more you do... the better prepared you will be when what you want comes around.
I never did before... but I'm a firm believer in Destiny now.
I see that some updates have required re-compile and re-format of existing partitions to use now source... *ouch*
Any ideas on how many more times this may happen before the beta-testing is done?? (Hmm... got first post earlier and didn't even try.:> Nice way to start the evening. *grin*)
I've used Netscape as my main browser for years. It's been irritating me to no end that it's become such a bloated and unstable application.:/
With the current events surrounding the M$ trial, one wonders how much better of a product Navigator would be at this time if they'd not had to deal with M$'s embrace and corrupt policy on html/java/javascript standards. Seems that 90% of the time that Nav crashes on me these days is on pages that use m$ specific Java-crud. This is truly irritating.
If IE had been written as a competitive application, by a company _other_ than m$, without m$'s specific advantages as a monopoly (which I firmly belive it is), it's my opinion that Netscape Corp. never would have sold out. In fact, I belive that it would have been a much MUCH bigger company today and we'd have a much better navigator because of it.
Without m$'s clout.... IE would have died a horrible, yet appropriate, Death.
Why do people let the public see files on their ftp before they are done uploading them? Isn't that just silly? (I know it's just a test for them... but still) It makes a whole lot more sense to have all the files in place (and mirrored) before setting the public read permissions... Is it not? Anything else is just un-professional. Just my Take... *shrug*

The local internet gaming cafe has the same problem. (they're running windoze, though they wish they didn't)
Keyboards that come unplugged never work when plugged back in a running machine.
Mice don't either....
What difference does windoze make? None that I can see.
It still grabs a specific IRQ... often times an irq that's
also hardwired by some not so bright pci board manufacturers...

Works for me... all I get to see are the informative
and insightful replies.
Let's hear it for moderation
This is indeed the most appropriate approach.
Never EVER give out more information than is necessary... (too late if they read this list).
Best case scenario, they will take a second look
to make sure they are right and realize their mistake.
A minimalistic reply is always your best approach for first response.
