To be clear, the app in question came from an unofficial (and presumably shady) app store. If you exclusively use Android's official marketplace, you're as safe as you would be using the App Store. To put yourself at greater risk, you have to choose to exit the relative safety of the official store and load the malware yourself.
There's still a walled garden, it just has a gate.
As much as I love a good Godwining, your analogy sucks. The Jews were being oppressed by the German government and one of them stuck out in anger, leading to a backlash. HBGary was trying to find information about Anonymous to sell the the FBI. Fair enough, they're a security company. But then their CEO had the balls to brag about what he was doing to the very people he was trying to fight. That's not an example of "good people" standing up, it's just a self-important braggart grandstanding. He wasn't acting out of desperation because his family was at risk, he was poking a bear with a stick because he could.
That's not the impression I got. Since the scanner showed there was something in her pants, they wouldn't need to do a normal pat down; they already know it's there. The quote from the email: "These new scans are so horrible that if you are wearing something unusual (like a piece of cloth on your panties) then you will be subjected to a search where a woman repeatedly has to check your "groin" while another woman watches on (two in my case - they were training in a new girl - awesome)." and the phrase "genital search" from the blog post imply something beyond the normal groping.
All those opposed to Citizens United are saying is that only the rich should be able to buy free speech.
Nice strawman. And you got modded +5 for it. Well done.
Being opposed to one egregious abuse of the political system doesn't imply that one accepts all the others. If someone thinks that the massive increase in corporate political spending brought on by Citizens United is a bad thing, that doesn't mean that they think massive private political spending is a good thing either.
Peaceful? People have already died. The New York Times was running an article about how the military has taken to the streets to keep order.

TFA is about building a portable recharger that runs off AA batteries. I know this is slashdot, but come on.
