Microsoft already sends more than they should and they only keep track of the Media Player 8 use... Just think when they have a nice tidy way of figuring out everything you use and how many times you say "Star Wars" and "Love" in any document or file...
Or what type of music you're listening to... oh wait, they already do that...
I'd guess this will just leaded to an updated EULA if the MediaPlayer 8 mess is any indication.
That's just my two cents... i left my trust in M$ down the road completely after Xperiencing the Xcedrine headache of XP!!
I can think of someone extremly more abusive to it's "customers" and for a lot longer than the tech industry has existed as we know it...
The TELCOs...
how many times have you been slammed?
how many times have you decided to not make a change to your service because every time you do -- you lose service for an indeterminate amount of time?
anybody else ever received a $700+ bill that should have been more like $100?
the one good thing about the telcos is that unless there is a major problem, you can always talk to somebody -- just takes about 4+ calls and reminders to get the problem fixed though...
how many other businesses could operate by telling you... a service rep. will show up between 8am and 5pm --- be waiting [after you already have for weeks or months]?
many of these problems follow the same vein as Cable companies... which are mostly owned by telcos anyway.
Don't kid yourself that the mobile providers will be the first to sell your name... the numbers you call... where you frequent [remember, "we're" putting GPS in the phones for your safety!]... the times of day you use your phone [best time to spam]
I'm sure it's profitable for them to upgrade their SMS Gateways and other hardware to handle the bandwidth of bulkmail due to the profitable nature of demographic information.
Isn't that essentially putting a fair amount of money around a retail store... on shelves, on the floor, under products, where-ever... and then following people back to their house when they pick it up and making them prove that all the money they have in their bank accounts and in their house is actually theirs?
As far as the way the individuals were found... i'm not sure how legal that is. Oh well... When do the laws apply when we're talking about the feds? Can anybody say WACO?
Has anyone here read the "Hall of Shame" on the anti-paypal site?
The more I read what the site has to offer, the more I realize that it's probably run by one bitter guy/girl who got what he deserved...
Look at this complaint against paypal:
Consumer reporting scam: Larry Lawrence (12/6/01)
PayPal continues to hold my $600. Illegally.
Several months ago I was offering the general public a free copy of the popular OS called Linux 8.0. This is a freely distributable program under the general license agreement. The customer only had to pay for shipping. ($5.00 US dollars)
I had hundreds of people that responded to the offer and I delivered the program as offered and according to the law. PayPal sent me an e-mail saying that they were going to suspend my account unless I could provide proof that I had permission to distribute this software.
Well, I e-mailed them back several times and explained to them that I did programming on my own and would never consider distributing software that was against any law. PayPal said that I had to prove that I had permission from Microsoft to distribute the software. Microsoft has nothing to do with Linux. Linux has always been to my knowledge, a free OS.
I am e-mailing you first before taking legal action as this is the professional way to do business.
They have closed my account, which is fine accept that they hold my funds without paying me interest on the funds and refuse to return the funds.
Linux 8.0, eh?Pretty Crediable! The guy is so knowledgable about the software he's selling **HUNDREDS** of copies of, that he doesn't even know if it's Mandrake [which I'm guessing it is [if it is even Linux and not MS-Office 8.0 for the MAC or something similar]] or whatever flavor. You'd think he'd be descriptive about what he was selling or how he was being scammed by pay-pal. Being the "programmer" he is, you'd think he'd know something about the operating system he was peddling.
Sounds like the only fraud going on around here are the accusations stated on this poorly prepared "hate" website.
Saying Bin Laden is a Muslim, is like saying the US Marine who raped the girl in singapore is truely a Marine. Neither of these people truely hold the beliefs and live the life dictated by "the rules."
It was also stated that Mohammed Atta [when in Hamburg, Germany] was seen at topless bars and drinking beer. Both of the above actions are against their beliefs as Muslims [nudity, alcohol/drunkiness].
These "followers" overall were not to devout to the beliefs, but much more-so to a man [or in the marine's case, an urge/feeling/need].
I was just playing around with it at 3-4am one Friday night. I attempted to flash v3.3 and that worked fine. So I thought, ok... I should be able to flash 4.0 and if something happens, I can go into debug mode and revert back to v3.3... needless to say, it didn't work that way. I don't get anything on the screen. So I spent a few weeks reading everything I could find on how to "re-flash" your palm... I asked in some forums and newsgroups, but didn't find anyone that had an answer. So I proceeded to do the next logical step. Open the bastard up!
After I opened it up I saw there was a small battery inside. Using my sodering tools, I disconnected the circut that ran to this battery. I left the device sit for about a month and then hooked the battery back up. Now I might have completely ruined the device, but I can't tell, because it doesn't seem to be any worse off then it was before I did this [no better, either!] So Now I've been prowling ebay for a palm iiixe since my screen is still good, I can just buy an "broken" palm and put my working screen into it for $40. I figured it'd be a good learning experience.
If you know of a way to restore the palm to a previous flash rom after an unsuccessful --- that'd be great! ------------------------------

I purchased a palm and used it for about 8 months. Then I broke it by giving the poor old iiixe an "unauthorized-upgrade" to OS4. It was nice having a handheld, and yes, I have seen the iPaq. I've even used one. Dinked around with writing documents, navigating on maps... et al. In the end, I'm enjoying my life with a piece of paper and a pencil. A couple of pieces of paper holding all the addresses/phone#/et al that I need fits into a lot smaller space than a handheld.
Sure they're cool, but think about if you really need one. Perhaps the answer is to choose neither. ------------------------------

"Missing from Linux are high-availability features that would let one Linux server step in and take over if another failed; full-fledged support for computers with multiple processors; and a "journaling" file system that is necessary to quickly reboot a crashed machine without having to laboriously reconstruct the computer's system files."
Um, from my understanding of NT5/Windows 2000 they're getting rid of the PDC and BDC -- i'm not 100% sure on that, but what i seem to be hearing.
OK... so it's "X Window System"... or X WindowS for short.
How's that for an arguement.
