I think the thing that's really hasn't been discussed in this "East vs. West" thread -- is what happens to the Middle East when the oil dries up...
It isn't going to shut the west down -- Hydrogen power will happen... it's already on the way and most economic experts say 20 years. ~2025 we will be running primarily on Hydrogen... it will no longer be a fringe energy source anymore.
How are Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region going to survive outside of extreme poverty and jealousy/envy/hatred for developed nations. The only source of global value they have is oil -- they've had incredible wealth for a select few due to oil and it's not being reinvested and developing industries. They're still in the raw material industry phase... FAR below Mexico and China.
I'm going to pick at details here and say you should really say...
48% of VOTING Americans disagree with Bush.
What's the percentage of total turnout based on registered voters and then again on voting age citizens? I haven't looked it up yet.
I'd guess we had about 1.1M people turn out to vote and aren't there around 2.75M in the country? so less than 50% of the citizens, but then you have to factor in kids and what-not.
I guess my point being that 48% of the population may not disagree with Bush and 51% of the population may not agree with him. Yes, that's stated as intended. We don't really know what the silent half of the population thinks on these issues because we can assume that the people that have been protesting Bush in the streets went out and voted and we can assume the people protesting the protesters and standing outside the courthouse in Arkansas (i think that's the right state) to protest the removal of the ten commandments voted... so who knows really...
After writing all this... was there a point to my comment? probably not... I guess I'm just in the mood to add to the over 4000 comments on this topic.
I spoke personally with Badnarik on the question, "how can you serve papers for a lawsuit you're involved in?"
His answer (as well as his staff) was:
He, personally, was not involved in the lawsuit. It was a lawsuit between the LP Organization of Arizona and the non-profit debate group.
It wasn't directed at allowing Badnarik specifically to be allowed... it was to open the debate to all qualified candidates due to use of public funds and property.
So before you go and rant like an assclown, check your facts and read the summons.
Badnarik didn't come off as insane to me (maybe I'm insane), but he was actually able to provide references against current laws/documents/constitution/et al for his/LP stance on issues.
I believe you did invade USA citizen privacy in 1812:P
Although I believe you were provoked... something history books in the US don't mention. I know my history book didn't even mention the burning of the Whitehouse.
He says it was Crossballs, but he still has _no_ proof of that. Just a phone number and a person, but that person could work for multiple shows on a network lining up talent/guests... who knows. Maybe it was just some intern. It's not like he provides us with any facts that could be cross-checked by a 3rd party. Like a name or actual phone number. Hey, if it's on google, it's not private. Give up your information.
I really doubt it was even close to as exciting as the email makes it out to be. Seriously, the guy is an "expert", but he's tooting his own horn. No regular/. user came across his blog and submitted the article. He had to do it. Plus like one of the comments above mentions -- he was on Art Bell recently.
This guy is in bad need of an unbreakable diamond tether to keep connected to reality.
I suppose you also got a stick-on antenna signal booster from the cell phone kiosk vendor you helped and a radiator flush from the Jiffylube down the street.
It's really great that he gave you that "adjustment" for free.
I suppose the return value on that is a personal thing, since we all know that Chiropratic "medicine" is a sham.
You mean you dislike the fact that every software vendor has their own memory-resident update notification software that eats your memory, cpu and bandwidth.
That's innovation!
Just buy a bigger processor and more memory, we're on our way out of the recession and it's cheap!
I agree. I purchased linuxant.com's solution for my 802.11G linksys card. If I was smarter, I would have bought a DLink:)
I did just buy a dlink bluetooth USB adapter -- so hopefully that should be ok.
I'm pissed at debian for holding back the libmysql-client to 3.23.xx instead of moving up to 4.0 because there are "licensing issues" (the PHP issue was resolved) according to the mailing list.
If there was something better than Debian, I'd be on it -- Gentoo is just a waste of my time. I think I'd need a bigger box
I don't know about your kids, but the kids I know wouldn't stay put long enough to get a bead on them.
So you text something and by the time you get a response the kid is 50m from it -- and by the time you get there, you need to text again to figure out where they are.
I think it would be better if the band alerted park security and then injected a fast-acting, minimal tranquilizer into the child to keep him at the location reported by the device.
No I do not work for the company or know anybody who does. I found mention of this while googling for Linux Wireless drivers... running across Rasmus Lerdorf's site with screenshots and a brief explaination of what he did to configure it.
I was amazed at how easy it was to configure [unzip, run, configure through a web interface.]
$20 gets you an permanent license to use their software -- otherwise you get a month of use for free to make sure the card works.
It's a pretty neat idea -- they use the WindowsXP drivers through a compatibility layer.
So for me, using Debian unstable[sid], I'm finally able to run wireless linux on my Thinkpad:)

Let examine his Mac Zealot nature... 1] he's ok with iTunes distributing the music based on the same contract with Orchard. 2] He's not ok with a non-macintosh friendly service distributing the music.
So, basically, he's only pissed at buymusic.com because it competes with a Steve Jobs / Apple pet project.
And what part of:
by any and all means and media (whether now known or existing in the future)
doesn't he understand when he says:
The concept of digital downloads for pay did not not exist. End of story.
Seems pretty open and shut to me... He sold his soul for $5 [obligitory Simpsons reference] and now he wants it back. Looks like he's getting exactly what he deserves:
I started going to the Orchard's site, found that they still seem to be conducting business, unfortunately I can no longer get into my account cause the information there is so old that I don't have it anymore.
Apparently the telephone's pretty heavy when you realize that you've signed away all your rights, isn't it Joey?
So while I agree that any dope who would sign such a contract deserves this, I didn't and I'm mad as hell.
There should be a way to mod down news as -1 Troll for/. now-a-days. It seems like it's getting worse and worse. I suppose that can be said about anything after it's golden age.
It isn't a coincidence at all the that "nobugs" article is posted on a site with other anti-microsoft articles...
What about Coal -> Oil?
We used coal for hundreds of years before commoners used refined oil.

Both Kerry and Bush support the PATRIOT Act ... since I can not comfortably vote for loss of liberty, I'm voting 3rd party.
I can still say I participated in the election process and I can sleep at night... it's win-win-lose.
The lose being whether or not Kerry or Bush gets elected, it's same-old, same-old good ol' boys club action.
Maybe Kerry isn't the corporate slave that Bush is... but he didn't become a career politican bucking the system.
thank you for having a brain! :)
maybe this means they'll quit slamming people. I was slammed by AT&T twice in half a dozen years. It's kinda annoying.
you have so much contact with the defence [sic] industry that you can't even spell defense correctly.
YEAH RIGHT.

is he describing Debian GNU/Linux here or BSD?
I actually reviewed this book for PHP Magazine [www.php-mag.net] in October.
c pp.html
It's supposed to be published in one of the next few issues.
This book is terrible -- If I were to give it a slashdot review rating -- it would be *3* and that is being generous.

He also hasn't posted/released what his _original_ contract says in contrast to the current.
... it always makes me suspicious.
Sound like SCO's copyright claims at all or Rago Pasta Sauce? "It's in there... Honest."
Maybe I'm just paranoid, but when people hide information or _forget_ to mention things
... lazy and ignorant.

actually the correct name is, The Star-and-Sickle ;)
I wonder when they'll start working on Unmitigated Audacity to compete with CoolEdit Pro.
Maybe it's the lack of sleep talking, but I couldn't help but post the Zappaesque reference.
