if the 3d chip in the winbook xl is the same as the one in the winbook XLi (trident 4mb sgram) it's totally awful. open GL only works in NT (Afaik) which if you put on a winbook, last i checked, violates your warrentty) the direct 3d support is slow and ugly --most things will run --when direct 3d is used the sound chip clicks and buzzes sometimes (sounds like an old radio when itplays 16 bit sound)
--am i the only one who wants a CARDBUS 3d card!!!!???
i don't think they're technically amish until 21 or seomthing . (that's why you only see close up pictures of young amish looking people --the adults can't be photographed)
Don't get me wrong --I'm really happy apple is releasing something to the community. But it seems to me this could seriously affect their sales of OSX. My guess is that they are banking on making more money of Quicktime than off of server sales, anyone agree?
...how these boxes are any different than buying a notebook and strapping a 15 pound weight on it?
this is not a form factor that we need! what would be helpful, however, would be an Lcd screen with bays for drives (kind of like the old black IBM APTIVA with the popup drives) --this would make a good client
when i first got a cable modem (from optimum online --the only good part of Cablevision) i routinly got 8 mbps --however now that the entire block is on the cable modem I get about 6-4 mbps.
Still damn fast --plus they promise to add more bandwith. (yeah right --this is cable vision -the last major cable compnay (AFAIK) to upgrade to a fiber optic cable network)
unless I'm totally off base here (which is, as always, entirely possible) What I think the person you replied to is refering to is that the unions were instrumental in making primary and secondary school education a requirement. IMHO, the primary reason for making children go to school was to get them out of the workplace. This was to make more jobs available to adults.
what is tc/ip useful for if there ain't no modem?
now, this lack of a memory slot on the IIIe , this just means that you can't add more storage space, right?
it doesn't mean thst you can't flash upgrade the OS does it?
i'm a little confused from various comments....

if it''s designed to work inside, would a solar cell help at all?
even more frightening ...the pentagon made an offical annoucement about the search operation....
why?
he's not the president, he's a magazine publisher for god's sake!

i keep waiting for either Compaq or IBM to buy them.
Ibm, because they lost the deal with cyrix and have the fabs to mass produce these things (plus the desire to be a components company)
Compaq, as part of an Alpha push (also because compaq uses a ton of amd chips)
i've found vqf to be slightly better for classical
music
i think you can get a player and ecoder for free from yamaha (www.yamaha.com)
I've always wanted a random comments/questions section
where registered users could ask questions that weren't massive enough to require an ask slashdot
how many are there?
i can only think of three x86 clones that still exist (and only one of them is in production)
AMD
RISE
Transmeta
am i missing anyone here?
I remember playing with Capsella in the bathtub (loved the yellow floaty potoons)
When my parents moved out of their house, we moved everything out of my room --under everything there were either legos, tinkertoys, or capsella...
(i still have most of my legos in the attic, if i ever have a kid) (hell I still play with them sometimes, they're fun)
couldn't they just get one of several arm (or wrist, or finger, or chest) mounted laser scanners?
What are you talking about?
all of the european's I know pay at least double (in percentage) the taxes that Americans with equal earnings do.
I'd like it if America would increase taxes, as long as we go good healthcare and schools in return
I almost positive that there is a plugin for winamp and wplay (two players i wish would emerge on non windows platforms)
that allows you to play vqf
There are legal issues to this.
/. becomes more and more popular, however.
I think that Slashdot would have to get written permission from the source of the images.
--I think this will start to happen as
strata was --although i don't think they ever made a second edition...
methinks/recalls hearing that one of the voodoo3 (nee banshee 2) can do this (i'm guessing the most expensive one)

irregardless is a word.
it comes from the base prefix ir meaning totally
so techincally irregardless means regardless.
yes, its stupid but look at inflamable.
isn't sAx not open source?
while it's a nice program --i don't see it as giving to the comunity.
it's more "giving customers a reason to use SuSE"
which isn't bad --but it's hardly noble.
