    now, this lack of a memory slot on the IIIe , this just means that you can't add more storage space, right?

    it doesn't mean thst you can't flash upgrade the OS does it?

    if the 3d chip in the winbook xl is the same as the one in the winbook XLi (trident 4mb sgram) it's totally awful. open GL only works in NT (Afaik) which if you put on a winbook, last i checked, violates your warrentty)
    the direct 3d support is slow and ugly --most things will run --when direct 3d is used the sound chip clicks and buzzes sometimes (sounds like an old radio when itplays 16 bit sound)

    --am i the only one who wants a CARDBUS 3d card!!!!???

    i keep waiting for either Compaq or IBM to buy them.

    Ibm, because they lost the deal with cyrix and have the fabs to mass produce these things (plus the desire to be a components company)

    Compaq, as part of an Alpha push (also because compaq uses a ton of amd chips)

    I remember playing with Capsella in the bathtub (loved the yellow floaty potoons)

    When my parents moved out of their house, we moved everything out of my room --under everything there were either legos, tinkertoys, or capsella...

    (i still have most of my legos in the attic, if i ever have a kid) (hell I still play with them sometimes, they're fun)

    What are you talking about?

    all of the european's I know pay at least double (in percentage) the taxes that Americans with equal earnings do.

    I'd like it if America would increase taxes, as long as we go good healthcare and schools in return

    I almost positive that there is a plugin for winamp and wplay (two players i wish would emerge on non windows platforms)

    There are legal issues to this.

    I think that Slashdot would have to get written permission from the source of the images.

    --I think this will start to happen as /. becomes more and more popular, however.

    Don't get me wrong --I'm really happy apple is releasing something to the community. But it seems to me this could seriously affect their sales of OSX. My guess is that they are banking on making more money of Quicktime than off of server sales, anyone agree?

    ...how these boxes are any different than buying a notebook and strapping a 15 pound weight on it?

    this is not a form factor that we need!
    what would be helpful, however, would be an Lcd screen with bays for drives (kind of like the old black IBM APTIVA with the popup drives)
    --this would make a good client

    when i first got a cable modem (from optimum online --the only good part of Cablevision)
    i routinly got 8 mbps --however now that the entire block is on the cable modem I get about 6-4 mbps.

    Still damn fast --plus they promise to add more bandwith. (yeah right --this is cable vision -the last major cable compnay (AFAIK) to upgrade to a fiber optic cable network)

    unless I'm totally off base here (which is, as always, entirely possible) What I think the person you replied to is refering to is that the unions were instrumental in making primary and secondary school education a requirement. IMHO, the primary reason for making children go to school was to get them out of the workplace. This was to make more jobs available to adults.

    isn't sAx not open source?

    while it's a nice program --i don't see it as giving to the comunity.

    it's more "giving customers a reason to use SuSE"
    which isn't bad --but it's hardly noble.
