I think it's great now that the hardware industry (more specifically AMD) is sitting around tapping their fingers waiting for the software industry to catch up. I'm sure the OSS community will be among the first to support the new chips from AMD. (unlike Redmond.) *cough* Saa-weeet!;)
It kills me to read that my tax dollars are being wasted on such a useless resource like NPR... and even more, what an amazing concept! A big-ass elavator that we can use to get into space, ingenious! Any idea how big the counter weight will be?!
Maybe the elevator2010 guys can hook up with the dig to the center of the earth folks for a beer and a brainstorming session for more revolutionary concepts? Lordy...
This PSU is amazing!!!!11 I use it to power my refrigerator, microwave, AND have enough juice left to run a small space heater in the winter... shweeet jesus!
I think security is a priority we all need to focus on more. With that said, I do think that a 14 character password is a bit _much_ for a local PC. A smart card installment is absolutely crazy...
Does this guy not trust his wife or kids?! This guy is going a bit far to protect his pr0n.
Plus, I don't even think shredded paper is healthy for plants...
Why don't you at least make a remark relevant to the topic/me point at the story, and stop being a bottom feeding troll? You're the reason people are getting tired of/. not me.
Just buy a $40,000 Sun box and replace it every few years... good call!;) I would assume the quested stated is in regards to more expensive hardware (servers, Sun, IBM, HP, etc.) as opposed to desktops, laptops and workstations.
From a managerial accounting perspective it's more profitable if you have more fixed costs than variable. So if you already know what your fixed costs are (and you will as you know what you're paying monthly on the leased hardware) you can increase your degree of operating leverage.
Once you break even the profits are much larger than if the equipment was purchased directly than manipulated and expensed quartly/monthyl/etc.
A lot of company's lease testing enviroments so they can just swap them out once testing is done. That's what the company's I have worked for did. 4 floors worth of datacenters and nearly 75% of all the AIX, Sun, and IBM machines were leased.
i'm also enjoying ye old reader... not bad.
something deep down is telling me that this is an april fool's joke.
anyone?
Another "neat" but not impressive device.
I wonder who honestly wants to view Windows Mobile on a full-size monitor?
they were distributing trojans like this in the 1990s... sub7 anyone? ;)
Amen. I love reading that Microsoft is suing "Linux". Who the $%^& is Linux anyway?
What kind of system are you going to run with 300W? You'll need at least a gigawatt to run any decent system these days!
1 core, 2 cores, 32 cores, OH MY!!
;)

Let me be the second to welcome all the zealot debian, gentoo, and *BSD users with their flames, toches and troll costumes!
Game on!
I saw the MIT robot this past summer stumbling around outside Fenway park after a Red Sox game! He walks like a drunk...
Agreed.
/. has lost it's title as favorite Linux website in the Reader's Choice. Probably because of articles like this.
