Correct on the first part, incorrect on the second. You may be too close to the technology, but Average Joe (plumber or not) would respond with a blank stare if asked about a "subnotebook".

What, is that the part underneath the regular notebook?

I think the obvious solution to this, should they actually have a legal basis, is to require that only NON-scientologists can be employed at a company.

After all, if the 1st amendment protects religious requirements for employment, isn't the inverse true as well?

Perhaps this isn't a road they should go down...

It's bigger than that. Imagine these screen used in clothing stores to capture your body image, and then replace the clothes with the newest fashions, as you turn and lean to see if they fit you.

Imagine walking past a downtown store and seeing and advertisment, with you inserted right into the ad!

Imagine this in a TV, and video conferencing where you can actually see someone eye to eye. You whole family can sit and talk to Grandma on the big TV, and she can talk to you on her big TV. Just like looking through a window.

There is really a lot more to this patent than just a computer monitor improvement / big brother is watching you.

I know I just bought a maxed out iBook G4, specifically because the bluetooh was builtin. As soon as the cell phone portability kicks in, I will be getting a Nokia 3650 with bluetooth and GPRS for roving internet on my laptop!

Hells bells, am I a geek? Beats me, but for my career (real estate agent in Florida), I can tells you that nothing impresses client (especially old folk) than walking into a listing presentation with a gorgeous apple notebook, a good suit, and NO WIRES ANYWHERE! 12. Re:This one may live as long as IRC on New P2P tool Using... IRC? [UPDATED] · · Score: 1

As someone who has just recently gone through the napster protocol piece by piece, I can tell you that not only do you already get a connection IP with every search reply (how do you think the windows client gets ping times?), but that it is also easy to track the files as move from user to user, with the md5 field.

Granted, the md5 can be easily changed each time you upload your file list, but with most people using the same md5 hash length (last checked it was the first 299008 bytes) tracking isn't that hard either.

I thikn that IRC is one of the natural mediums for this type of sharing network. The only problem I can forsee though is how strict P2P/IRC servers will be in allowing other servers to connect in. That is the essence of maintaining a decentralized network, and if you start setting up strict limits on who can connect back to your server, then you risk the health of the network.

  13. Coding in native crusoe on Phoenix BIOS Software Available for Crusoe · · Score: 2

It really suprises me that people still seem to think that coding around the "code-morphing" will actually improve the speed of a program on this chip. Keep in mind, this chip has no OO execution or branch-prediction, and relies on the software above to figure that out as best as possible.

If you even _could_ code (or better yet they _allowed_ your to code) in the native format, it still would suffer, because the things that the silcon doesn't have is exactly what makes stuff run fast.

At least last time I looked.

  14. Laser Is the way to go on Laser Vision Correction? · · Score: 5

I had my eyes laser vision corrected about 1 year ago now, and I have had no regrets whatsoever. I used to have 20/400 in the left and 20/175 in the right, but since the surgery I now have a stable 20/20 in both eyes.

If you've never had to wear glasses or contacts you can't even imagine the feeling of being able to SEE normally for the first time ever! You walk around all day thinking about all the things you can see now for the first couple of months.

Mine cost about $2400 per eye, including free checkups and free enhancements should the surgery not take completely. I know you can probably get it for "real cheap" someplace else, but step back a minute and think how much that $5000 is really worth. What is that..

    1) Room and board for a few months?
    2) A piece of crap car?
    3) Mebbe a few new computers?
    or
    4) Perfect vision, all day, everyday, for the rest of your life.

Hehe. I can't push it enough; mortage the house, sell your soul, go get it done.
