KWord can be a good rival to Framemaker /Publisher

I may be talking off my head here, but the last time i saw KWord, it looked like it was inspored by Framemaker. As a technical Writer, Framemaker is the word processor of choice to use, Word does not even come close. Abiword and the word processor shipped with StarOffice are also aimed at the general user, not someone who creates long complex documents for a living.
KWord was a pleasant surprise, then. With KOffice 1.0, it was not ready for primetime use, but the direction it was headed showed that it will sooner or later make it easy for people like me to switch from the pain of FM (yes, it may be the best in the world for tech editing, but it still sucks royally) to something better.
As far as i know... this was supposed to be one of the big wins for the mainframes... i recall some note about 44000 linuxes running together on a single IBM mainframe? sorry dont have the link handy...
Just rememebered that as a child i used to sing
"ring-a-ring-a roses,
pocket full of posies,
husha busha,
all fall down"
and never really understood what it was all about. then i found out that it was referring to the black plague epidemic of London when about a third(?) of the population was wiped out and people actually dropped dead on the streets...
I dont know... instead of looking back at our ancestors, lets take a look forward into the far future in a workd where physical duplication is possible....
I grow rice,
u buy rice,
u use duplicator to make huge amounts of rice,
u abolish world hunger,
i scream, 'what about my rights?
U cannot duplicate or resell the rice i sold u!'
Is there a real difference from whats happenning with music now and the rice scenario i just came up with?

the saddest part is that te US, by far the most Internetr aware country sets such a poor example. And this leads the rest of the countries to follow suit. For example, till recently the Eu treated software as math algos, but now the new rule they r trying to implement is 'Patent everything'. Countries as diverse as Australia (censor everything), India (spy on eveything) and france (u r liable for everything) are implementing bone head rules trying to regulate freedom.
The US had a golden oppurtunity to spread true freedom all over the world, but sadly missed it.
I am putting my neck out quite a bit but at the zenith of a nations powers lie the seeds of its decadence. The US is taking away from its citizens the very thing that empowered the nation - freedom. and naturally the world follows suit
Here lies the problem - Free Software and Open Source are two different things, similar but not identical. for details look at the fsf website.
RMS is a believer in free software - according to him badly written free software is far more preferable to well written commercial software. So for him free software is not about technical merit at all, but rather about political issues like freedom.
Overall while it must be admitted that RMS is being pedantic about this issue, one must also be fair to him and note that he has been (and will always be) the chief guard of the free software movement (claims by others like ESR notwithstanding).
Also, note that while RMS is more than a bit crazy, even by geek standards, he is always ready to cooperate with others on the matter of free software. he is ready to talk to his worst enemies, he is ready to bear umpteen personal insults and slander (remember the "RMS is a commie" days?) to advance his agenda.
So overall, while he is often a pain in the neck, please bear up with him. He is truly a GOOD man.
A couple of points here - First, RMS does not condone breaking the law, he just points out that - in his world view this law is stupid. RMS does not break any law, he does not condone breaking the law, however he does understand why many people do so. Also notice that he offers another option instead - use free software.

Didn't he have some open heart surgery recently?
They probably collaborated with Osama to ensure good crypto for Al Queda. Arrest them, shoot them... they are destroying the American way of life!
