    work out how much money the record companies make from sales.

    setup a server with all music on it that people can add to.

    charge people a fixed fee based on the record companies current sales to access the server and file share music as much as they like.

    Record companies get their money.
    People get as much music as they want.

    Win Win.

    But isn't Windows 7 just a service pack for Vista? From what's been touted about it doesn't look and leaner or meaner they've just put some speed improvements into the UI to make it look faster.

    The majority of the stuff under the hood is still vista so people will probably have the same problems.

    apart from being a troll, I was suggesting that you talk about it during reasearch as well as when it's being developed etc... they won't be able to get a parent if it's not a secret.

    If there going to try and take it and you've told outside people about it then can they still patent it. At least that should allow you to use your idea when you leave even if they also get to use it.

    can't remember the exact version of ubuntu I installed but it's the 64bit version one before the current version I upgraded to the current version just after it came out.

    Also, updated the kernel the other day. It didn't copy across / setup my wireless driver files or the nvidia driver. not exactly friendly.

    Here's how I got SMB working...

    Tried that, I can access the share from Linux but not from windows.

    As for the wireless driver, grow up.

    Your precisely the reason Ubuntu isn't ready for the general public. You fail to see that if linux wants to be gpl and doesn't want a stable ABI then it's going to have to adapt, do things like reverse engineer drivers and yes point you in the direction of them instead of pretending they don't exist.

    It would have been easy for ubuntu to do this, but it doesn't. and I fail to see why that prevents them doing a iwlist scan to show available access points too.

    What I want to know is what are they protecting us from? I've seen lots of stuff on the Internet, and probably a lot of stuff people would prefer that I hadn't seen. But that doesn't make me do bad things. It's only when you make things bad do they become something to expire to.

    so how do you add shares and users to samba, that's part of the setup too and it doesn't happen automatically.

    maybe your wireless card didn't need any bytecode. Also the wireless setup didn't even do a iwlist scan and display a list of points I could connect to. Windows does much better than that and ubuntu should be able to do even better than windows.

    let me see,

    Wireless card. Didn't autodetect, download (or even point me in the direction of) the bytecode and install.
    Samba. Had to manually edit the files.
    Etc....

    a little off topic, but some configuration tools would be nice. You know for the general public. until ubuntu can do that it's going to be no where near desktop ready for most people.

    I guess you've never heard of civil disobedience.

    The answer is to do it so much that everyone can see that it isn't really a problem and then they will accept a change in the law.

    If writing letters and political campaigns don't work, then there's something in your constitution that allows you to form a militia to over throw the corrupt government, or did you wander what that was doing there?

    and then if you want to do anything sensible you have to use C.

    still a lot clearer than Perl.

    I'll give you a copy of the code if I can find it.

    I was called grass lands, I wrote it when I was 15 at school and I'm now 32, only got played by friends at school.
    Basically you build up a city and army and sent your army across to attack the opponents city. Which is exactly what a RTS is.

    civilisation started it all for me. I wrote a RTS that was basically civilisation in real time before Dune II came out. It was a logical step.

    gigabit Ethernet, I want my home pc's to be linkes a gigabit, I don't want to have to buy a wireless router and a adsl router.

    (although all I do is use my N1 router as a hub and connect it up the the adsl kit) still two boxes that could do the job of one. not really nice and tidy and not very green.

    so because most people do, should the people that don't not be given the best advantage possible. Because some people are dumb should you make everyone dumb.

    Also those 'sloths' may actually get of their ass and do something if they knew a little more about it. Computers are interactive, t.v. isn't (well unless your shouting at it, or it's a vote them off show in which case people stop being sloths and actually start doing something.).

    The real problem with child porn is the trauma that kids suffer from being told how evil what the people have done to them is.

    The people I know (which are about 4-5 so not a very big sample) who were abused as children didn't think it was a problem until they were told it's a problem.

    I know some computer programmers ,well if you can call them that, that didn't have computers as kids.

    I also know some old people who didn't have computers as kids.

    Do they have problems, are they missing out on quite a lot of valuable information. what do you think?

    I've got be, it's great super fast, fixed ip (or ips) no caps etc... the only problem I've found is the fact you have to use thier kit(which I haven't had any problems with but it's not N1 wireless or gigabit Ethernet)

    If you want fast get adsl 2 from bethere. I had an appaling time, my connection was supposed to be 2mb but I got less than a 56k modem since I've switch to bethere I get 14mb (more than a MB per second download!). The only catch is you have to use their own kit which isn't that great but does the job.
