Occupying Irag over lies had made it harder for future US governments to convince the people of the need to go to war. This could backfire badly, should a real threat arise.
Who owns the property. Not the gov't. The property owner. If my tax dollars pay for it, it's public. If the property owner doesn't like the protests, he can try to boot his tenant and the protesters out. The gov't can't boot out citizens.
Different rules apply. This is why we don't like to conflate government and private enterprise. Gets messy.
We can't let the military hide behind private business and vice versa. It breeds contempt for the military and the gov't.

5 tomatoes per plant? That's some shitty gardening.
I bought the $1.29 hybrid tomatoe seeds from the garden center. Sprouted the seeds indoors, and planted 6" tall plants when I felt frost was no longer a risk. I got about 15 - 20 tomatoes per plant...the plants reached about 5' tall. All I did was water when the rain wasn't coming, and feed with a cheap fertilizer once I saw the flowers forming.
See, I don't cry about my taxes. I pay them happily. I fear that were these minimal health care standards not funded by taxation, they would not be met. Why? Because of all the people crying that taxes are too high. They don't complain about the principle of paying taxes, they complain about not having their money. This makes me think they would be selfish if not forced to give a lowest-common-denominator damn for their fellow man.
It's not like murdering civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq is going to be something Obama's policies can even touch.
It'll take a big BIG mistake to get people to remove those bumper stickers. Kinda like how the W stickers started dissapearing in 2005:)
Maybe you should spend less time crying about government intrusion, and more time getting in shape? Dropping the weight and being more active will make you feel more positive and less of a failure.

I didn't want the war foisted upon us by lying politicians and the gullible and cowardly older generation, but here it is. Guess what, 'greatest generation', now we want to spend tax money on something that is GOOD for the nation.
I think the main issue is people don't want to pay for it. They're happy in their cozy little niches and don't want to look to the wider world and notice the USA is falling behind. Head in the sand, and all that. Why pay to keep up with our economic competitors when that money can be used to raise another child?
