The absolutely best hypothesis is that they're doing it to purge the bad news off the newssites. There was news about the motion to compell hearing (which wasn't SCO's finest hour. Read the transcript here. Check p55 if you're in a hurry) and about the SCO - Boies - Investor-relationship which also was very bad news for SCO, because they want people to belive Boies is on a continguency (apparently that implies 'faith in the lawsuit').
Where is that now? Gone.
Instead we have stories about poor, poor SCO being attacked by those evil linux users.
How many companies release Press Releases about being under attack?! On the same day, no less!
I'd never go for "Multi Platform JAVA Interface" unless it was something 'extra' you didn't have to use, and the device could be used as a normal USB Storage device also.
The iFP-500 looks nice (in fact, it looks like something I could buy -- I'm not interested in HD-players), but unless there's an actually honest to Gawd firmware shipping with good vorbis support (meaning it doesn't skip or crash on concatenated files or comments with international characters and the like)...
Let's just say that there's been a lot of talking and a lot less doing in some parts of the hardware vendor world... A variant of the old 'bait and switch'
The decoder is included with winamp (at least the standard and full versions). They might have added it to the lite version too recently thereby making the "plugin" pointless? (Peter's plugin is out there, if you really want it)
Besides, everyone who was using the Winamp "classic" is using foobar2000 now anyhow:-)
WTF are you talking about? The volume today was pretty much nonexistant, about 2/3:rds of the average (234,629 versus the average of 323,545), though pretty normal for a friday.
It wasn't anywhere near astronomical. And also, the news came directly from the court to Groklaw via 'Sam' during the last half hour of trading or so.
No, the interesting things lie ahead of us. FUD during the weekend, possible stock-movement on Monday -- but remember, there isn't a whole lot of float on this one.
[...] the court hearing is that IBM won both of its motions to compel [...]
Oddly, the Minutes only mention #68. Maybe the other one is included by implication or something.
"Counsel for both parties present. The Court hears arguments re: Motion to Compel (#68). Court GRANTS motion. Plaintiff is to provide responses/affidavits within 30 days of entry of this order. All other discovery is to be postponed until the order has been complied with. An order reflecting this ruling is to be prepared by counsel for defendant. A motion hearing is scheduled for 1/23/04 at 10:00 a.m. Court is adjourned."
.. or any combination thereof. Furthermore, Ogg is the container format, so if you say that something "plays Oggs" then you're speaking like an idiot. Maybe you meant to say that "the device is capable of playing AACs (not the encrypted variety tho!) or Vorbis [...]"
This is not nitpicking, if you don't understand a term, don't use it.
You're overlooking the fact that GNU/Linux doesn't normally run on FAT32 (ext2 is the "normal" fs for linux). It was once possible, but I think that support is dead as of linux 2.6
I actually had to check your foes to make sure you weren't an obvious troll.
You're expected to know exploited boxes by monitoring what they're doing.
As for likelyhood, I'm not sure I'm following you. Any box at all at any time with someone not knowing about it at time t? I'd say the chance of that is 1.
But still, what intrigues me the most is that they have found out that they were hijacked in the first place.
Because they suddenly started spewing oopses. RTFAs:
"On November 20 it was noticed that masters' kernel was generating a lot of oopses. While investigating this it was discovered that murphy was showing the exact same oops, which was an overly suspicious coincidence." -- Compromise details
Yep. Asked about the 'silent majority' that, according the the paranoid delusions of Mc-soon-to-be-Prison-Bride WindRiver is with SCO with concern to the GPL:
"[...] Anybody who owns an operating system that thinks it shouldn't be for free, uh, would naturally fall on this side of the table that SCO is on. So it is not just Microsoft, it is Wind River Systems, it's Sun Microsystems, essentially anybody who thinks that their valuable intellectual property in an operating system should have a price tag on it naturally lines up with SCO on this."
Are you suggesting that Slashdot exist in isolation an no newssources ever pick up stories published here?
Also, if you haven't been following this closely then maybe you don't know how stupid people really are. There are _lot's_ of Greater Fools investing based on what they hear in the news and nothing else, as can be seen by the Cohen pumps on MSNBC for instance.
So no, I don't think it's a given that people who read this on slashdot go and invest in one way or another. Some may short, and that's stupid too, IMHO (can be recalled any time and this stock is extremely volatile, making shorting very very dangerous).
You're still focusing on games. I think most people who go for the "All-in-Wonder" are more concerned with the extra features; like the PVR and the remote.
Well, if the "drivers are a little too involved to set up" then that's certainly something the review should mention!
This isn't all about games either, this isn't a hardcore gaming card, this is a "wide" product meant to be an overall decent graphics card for desktop and games. You have the PVR features for instance. Are those supported on any other OSen than Windows? If yes, out of the box or does it require third party drivers and/or software, will the remote function with these? If it's not supported, why? How does that compare to the competition, etc, etc.
A review that doesn't even touch on these issues are all but useless. Zero information, seeing how there's a million of these reviews already.

There's a poll here.

Losely, it's "Oko" for 'eco' (economical) and "krim" for 'crime'.
I think. I'm not Norsk.

Umm.. finding bugs is good.

Tanja is also very smart and very se.. beautiful. Really passionate about math too (and that's what counts :-)

But that's okay because a trained monkey could file better documents than what we've seen out of SCO.
And on a tangent...OSDL to Answer SCO with Linux Campaign.
This is just what SCO wanted, they probably planted this "leak" to get more attention and a new batch of Greater Fools to buy stock.
All "wolf! wolf! wolf" and lots of crying. No "bite! bite! bite"

Do they test the linux drivers, or is this another one of those "there exists only one platform, and it's name is 3DMark"-reviews?
