I just (as in 2 days ago) set up a sendmail box for about 6,000 accounts which is running sendmail plus the MIMEDefang milter. MIMEDefang strips out invalid attachments (we have a policy not to accept.exe's and a few other files), strips out messages with invalid headers and a few other things, calls McAfee uvscan, and then runs anything left through spamassassin.
It has worked like a charm thus far and with graphdefang (a set of scripts that comes with mimedefang) I can view how many messages are discarded, why they are discarded, how many messages are tagged as spam, how many of what type of virii were cleaned, etc.
I have been quite impressed with the McAfee scanner as well. I have heard nightmares from Windows users who have it installed on their workstations, but it seems to work great on the Unix side. It even comes with a perl script you can set to run in your crontab to download the latest virus definition files.
Yeah...rollerblading with a laptop in your backpack is great until the first time you fall down on your skates. Then you can kiss that $2000 laptop goodbye.
"To prepare for a kernel panic, you need the system source code installed. You need one (or more) swap partition that is at least one MB larger than your physical memory and preferably twice as large as your RAM. If you have 512MB of RAM, for example, you need a swap partition that is 513MB or larger, with 1024MB being preferable."
I've never been able to get a straight answer as to why the swap rule of thumb is double the ram. I guess that explains it, although since Linux puts the backtrace to the console and syslog maybe there is another reason as well...

I tried this module out for a while and ended up having to remove it. For some reason pages rendered with PHP would not load at all in IE5 when they were gziped. Not sure what the deal was there but disabling mod_gzip fixed the problem.
Have you tried scrubbing the container? I believe this checks and fixes errors with the raid volumes themselves (not the filesystems on the volumes). Using the afacli command line utility for the Adaptec PERC controllers you would just type "open afa0" and then "container scrub".
I agree with you there. My watch band has broken twice, the plastic on the watch itself has long since been broken off, and the backlight stopped working after about 6 months. It's also started running fast (I've had it for around 4 years).
At the University of Alabama we have both a Star Wars class and a Dukes of Hazard Class. I wouldn't be suprised if we get a Simpsons class added to the catalogue soon.

Well I personally would want to do this because I have a better understanding of how to maintain a Linux installation as opposed to Solaris. Also, performance wise, Linux smoked Solaris 8 on my Ultra 5. Now this may be because I have no idea how to tweak Solaris, so if you can point me to some material on how to make Solaris' file I/O not suck a big fat one I'd appreciate it.
You have got to be fucking kidding me!
I haven't used Exchange 2000 but Exchange 5.5's mailbox format is a piece of shit! Its one huge flat file. And I mean HUGE. Plus the "Jet" database format it uses is slow as balls. And to top it all off, you have to take the service offline to defrag it! Unless you love getting up several Saturday mornings a month because your users can't check their email, then exchange isn't for anyone.
IpaQ's can use 802.11 wireless ethernet cards with the (sold seperately) attachable PCMCIA bus. As long as this quake port can talk to the windows ce network interface it should work just fine.
I noticed that the mga driver that comes with 4.0.2 still doesn't support dual head mode on my G400. I had to copy over mga_drv.o with the old one Matrox released for 4.0.1 to get Dual head working. Any ideas when the current driver will have these features?
We've designed several database apps similar to what you are talking about for the lab on campus that I work at. Basically we installed a barebones RedHat setup on a machine, locked it down, then compiled and configured Perl, Apache, PHP, and PostgreSQL. They should be able to do the actual code writing from anywhere via ssh or ftping it over. Be sure though that you teach them not only how to do the application part, but how to compile and configure the tools. You should also be sure to teach them how to secure the development machine properly, something thats usually left out in a class like that.
Well this just brings about the classical paradox of "Mainstream society won't use Linux until there are more popular applications for Linux. More popular applications won't be made for Linux until mainstream society starts using it." Now with the attitude you're taking, nothing will ever get done. If you are going to be providing the application free and only sell the service, then why not spend a little extra to port it to Linux? This way you might get a few more subscriptions and you more than likely won't have to worry about support for those customers (since the majority of Linux users are quite competent).
Thanks Patrick for answering my question and I'm glad to know that the install and package manager programs are getting revamped. Keep up the good work!
Well if companies bitch about the inconviences and price of RedHat's certification program then why don't they just go with one of the other Certification programs being offered? From what I've seen, some of the others seem better anyway in so far as testing locations and course material are concerned. This does bring up an important point though: If RedHat can't clean up their act they can lose their grip on the certification "racket" which will in turn hurt them in corporate area when corporations start turning to other Distros with better certification programs.

This is only the Court in the State of California.
This is not a nationwide decision. I'm sure the U.S. Supreme court will strike it down.
