I've always said that Doom and Doom II were better than the newer games, for the simple reason that they were just so much more immersive. I can only hope that Doom III lives up to their high standards of atmosphere and mood.
Call it nostalgia, whatever, but there was some magic in firing up Doom shareware for the first time on my old 486-66 w/ 4MB RAM, and just playing for hours, completely immersed in the game. When I got Doom II, I couldn't put it down for weeks, it just drew me into it.. no other game before or since, except Diablo, has ever had that effect on me.
I used to have nightmares about cyberdemons:) I Still think they're pretty damn scary for an image on a screen.. they just have this aura of "ultimate badass" that makes you run at full speed away..
Last August, a friend of mine and I decided, on a whim, to relive past glories and play some Doom II deathmatches again.. well, we did that, and it was still as fun as it ever had been (fancy 3d graphics be damned! gameplay is still king *grin*).. so fun, in fact, that we then played through all 33 levels cooperatively.. I can't remember the last time I had so much pure enjoyment from any game. It was bliss.
Ok, I get it now:) I really meant old voodoo and voodoo2 cards, but hey.. they prolly fit the IS model better anyway simply because they have just as much as an overinflated ego as Romero does.. I'm surprised 3Dfx hasn't offered to make me their bitch yet. *grin*
How about they agree to block French users if France agrees to stop illegally testing nuclear weapons? Or, if they disagree, just nuke them and make it look like one of their own tests went awry.. >:)
Those ad with that annoying "people wanna be free" song? Probably not, huh? Ah, well.. It's gotten so bothersome that I now purposefully hit "mute" whenever a verizon wireless commercial comes on. And always running two in a row doubles the fun!
Imagine all the fun they'd have reporting that? MSNBC news: The MSNBC virus is wreaking havoc on the world's computers! We didn't do it, honest! *grin*
Nice point:) Form should follow function, not the reverse. I'm glad that other here people realize that doesn't mean a return to boring beige boxes of the past. ( I was beginning to think I was the only one who didn't support the iMacization of technology) Really, the one "new" design I actually like is that of those new Sony boxes with LCD screens and a smaller detachable "CPU" unit that only contains the HD and electronics, with disc drives elsewhere. Simple, clean, and elegant - a perfect design philosophy, in my book.
Where did that come from? I fully support Blizzard, I just like making fun of them. GFrazier hates it >:)

Here's my newer tag, too!
I stated that I played it again last August. Unless I'm stuck in a time warp, that wasn't my first time playing.

Well, maybe, but Blizzard (as with 3Dfx) doesn't usually release utter crap like IS has.
Shouldn't this be termed "pulling a Blizzard" by now? They've honed it to a fine art.

I think that would solve everything :P *giggle*

I see someone forgot to take their Ritalin this morning.
