Ehh.. the video isn't GPLed.. don't copy it.. go here.. http://www.revolution-os.com/page1.html and do as it says.. mail them and hopefully they will put it out on video or DVD then you can buy it..
hmm.. didn't some people try this a couple years back with DR-DOS and PC-DOS... It didn't seem to work then..what makes them think it will work now? MS has the market cornered.. they are the first OS most people see.. until you can get PC sellers to start shipping other OSes.. it'll be a losing battle..
when asked wether GNU was similar to communism RMS said it wasn't really like the Soviet Bloc at all.. that's not really answering the question... but I'm sure he's answered it somewhere else before.. because every time I read his FSF philosophy stuff I think of communism... I need some pointers to places that can help clear this up...

There is a link right there about the planned protests..also mention to the fact that the EFF tried to call off the protests as a good faith gesture because Adobe had agreed to a meeting..
This is also the decision that Don Knuth made when writing his Art of Computer Programming volumes.. I too agree with a low-level langauge being the first language... too many people confuse computer PROGRAMMING with computer SCIENCE.. programming is a part of comp sci. but it doesn't make up all of it.. I did not have the fortune of taking an AP Comp Sci course in HS but now that i am almost done with my Comp Sci Bachelors I fully appreciate the fact that comp sci encompasses more than programming and that should be taught from the begining (hence AP Comp Sci should cover actual comp sci not just programming)
What pisses me off.. is if he would have just slugged the kid he probally would have gotten a few days supsension for fighting and that would have been all.. but no.. he resorts to his wit and he get's thrown out for being a 'threat'... this just pisses me off...
True.. students would most likely focus more on previous tests.. but.. these are the students that weren't really intrested in a complete education to begin with.
The only Professors that will have extra work will be the ones that volunteer to join this service.
Students will take any excuse to get mad at a professor. A lawsuit for not keeping up to date in a volantary service.. not sure that is possible..
The last point to make isn't exclusive to this course material.. there is already a huge gap between access to the internet by lower and upper class.. I don't see how this will increase that gap..
Overall I think it is a good idea. I'm always happy when I find previos class notes about a class I'm taking..
For all the information you could want on Zero.. check out "Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea" by Charles Seife. It covers zero from the very begining up until its use today in quantum physics.. Good read.. only about 200 pages or so..
This is the most ridiculous ruling i've heard in a domain name case.. then they want to sue them if they loose money over a boycott also.. are people just getting dumber or what?????
From my experience this is untrue.. I think it is all in the presentation and your general attitude.. I started working as a developer when I was 19 with no degree.. I was the youngest developer by far but everyone listened to me when i had something to say.. Because i said intellegent things in a proffessional manner.. and.. it turned out that most of what i said was true.. so I built a reputation of being a reliable source of information..
Check out the ACM and the IEEE and the AITP these are all professional org. that relate to the computer industry.. they all have a code of ethics.. In fact the ACM and IEEE did a joint code of ethics for Software engieers. I think they are at
www.acm.org
www.computers.org
It's not that we need a code of ethics.. it's that we need more people following the code of ethics that are there..

Of course you need "The Art Of Computer Programming" by Don Knuth. No library is complete without them.
