I've wondered if those odd looking creatures in the ocean are aliens...they look so different and in such a wide variety maybe they are all aliens from different regions in space.
It's because of two reasons: hospital care is perceived as "free" due to insurance or governmental aid and because people don't get regular check-ups. It's like taxes, we'd be more offended about the taxes they take from us if we had to pay our annual federal and state taxes via a check every year...so we could see the actual amount and feel the pain. Medical insurance needs to be overhauled as does the drug industry (which may actually mean the FDA). It's a shame the hospital's down...problems like this are going to become more prevalent as SCADA moves to Windows... Sorry for the smattering of thoughts but I woke up a few minutes ago and to quote Cookie Monster, "me sleepy and me need cookie."
Love OpenSuse cuz its one of the last mainstream distorts that hasn't been dumbed down via Gnome 3 or Unity. LXDE, XFCE, and KDE aren't a good alternative IMHO.
A few years ago I worked in a job that put us on a boat in the ocean. My coworkers were golfers and a few were good at math so I asked them if they could calculate how many golf balls would fit into a 55-gallon drum. Never got an answer...
Any algorithm would be nice, probably more a calculation of free space between the spheres but I never put much thought into it.
Shooting down a GPS satellite is MUCH different and significantly more difficult than the recent satellite shootdowns we've had in the last few years. GPS is about 13,000 miles from Earth while the LEO satellites that were shot down were 200 miles from Earth.
How can you be FAIRLY certain it DEFINATELY missed? Kind of a weird mix of certainty and uncertainty, you are either certain it missed or you are uncertain it missed.
As an ardent environmentalist with a BS in Environmental Science, I am also a realist and understand we need to use what we have while we forge ahead in search of what will power our future. I also have not seen conclusive proof for or against anthropogenic global warming and doubt it will ever be published, simply because the world we live in is too complex and the span of time we look at it is too short. Elrous0 was correct in stating this "dilemma" is man-caused for nefarious reasons (e.g. money, power, fame, all the above, etc.). I think a lot of environmentalists and people in my field simply want us to live in a manner that doesn't our environment up (e.g. Love Canal is a prime example of the damage that can be done through ignorance or corruption). I think almost every environmental problem boiled down to either laziness on the part of the corporation/government/individual or greed...it's ironic the pseudo-environmentalists are doing their deeds for largely the same reasons.
Being able to read a newspaper from space is a Cold-War era urban legend. Commercial space-based imagers (e.g. Quickbird) have ~60cm resolution, one can argue they are several generations behind what the US Intelligence agencies have but even if one were to get 6cm resolution they still couldn't read a newspaper.
You say you could se blocks of colors on a newspaper in 1971 seems to me to be incredible...that would imply a resolution of less than a few centimeters which I doubt anyone has in space. I'd bet the image you saw was either from an air-breathing imager (e.g. U-2 or another plane) or from a guy on an adjacent rooftop.
Hopefully NASA sends a few hardhat to each school/university that receives a heat tile to protect onlookers from debris...those tiles have a great reputation.
Funny, Texas is a state historically run by a Republican governor and it's economy has thrived while California, a Democratic state, has languished. Let's attack Rick Perry because that makes perfect sense. How about you stop regurgitating Democratic talking points and think for yourself, we'd all appreciate it.
Obama will only use the "laser" for evil if polls show it would be favorable to his reelection campaign which he started in 2008.
OTOH, once we start altering the climate we'll everything up and force rain to fall where the money is or where it's politcally beneficial for the rain to fall. Best this never works.
...and those darn "corporate jets" that Obama complains about right before he gets on Air Force One for Martha's Vineyard to hob nob with the Democractic corporate jet owners who must fly using recycled McDonald's oil and glitter. So hypocritical but I digress.
To relive two weeks ago...add this to the list of crap that newly discovered anti-matter belt around the Earth will have to protect us from. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-14405122
At the rate Girl Scout cookies are increasing in price they should pick a different source material. Those cookies are delicious but way too expensive.
Yeah I remember Russian fighters weren't very susceptible to EMP (e.g. HAND/HEMP).
BTW, I still see a lot of tubes (travelling wave tubes) in my industry (satellite/space communications). Hard to beat them for high-gain but they're more fragile than their solid-state equivalents.
Killing social networks isn't really fixing the problem...they should focus on stopping the looters/idiots then fix the cause of their complaint (or tell them to STFU if they don't have a valid argument). Guess band-aids are cheaper than splints though.
While it may be easier to launch a missile from a platform travelling 13000mph, it's many times more difficult getting a platform up to 13000mph. Shooting down satellites from a conventional F-15 using an ASM-135 ASAT missile was first done back in 1985 so no need to increase the complexity (e.g. boost speed to mach 20).
I'd imagine the high speeds would be nice for flyovers of enemy airspace for surveillance of some sort.

Why not contact the NSA for guidance since that's their specialty.

Right...according to Bill Gates "nobody would ever had a need for more than 64,000 lbs of thrust" :)
Two less than will fit in your mom's mouth even though they fit better on her chin.
Nice...so ~4657 golf balls will fit in a 55-gallon drum. Now I have to figure out how many tennis balls will fit in my dog's mouth...muahahahaha...

...and not just a stroke that comes later in life.
According to M-theory there are 11 dimensions though I can only comprehend 4 and only when not drinking beer.
The only venomous mammal is the platypus.
It'd probably be better to say this product specifically targets the contaminants rather than it's self-aware.

Luckily they discovered antimatter belts recently...those should save us.
