PC games will never go away, but if the market keeps shrinking due to the increasing ease of piracy... then the number and quality of games will almost certainly decrease.
Hmmm, I think a drop in quality came with the expansion of the market. I also doubt that piracy is very high on the list of things that result in lower quality games.
First you can order your 3D keyboard, and now you can buy a 3D monitor. Along with the instructions on how to make a 3D mouse that were posted a few weeks ago, you could have a pretty interesting setup. All you might need is some sort of 3D printer, like one of those prototyping machines.
Wow, this "3D" stuff is really catching on. Next thing you know, they'll be making "3D" toothbrushes and maybe even vehicles! I just hope they don't go to far.
This sounds similar to the reasoning used by the RIAA and others use to conclude that DRM is a good thing. Copyright fair use turns into a permission model. At least in this case the problem is one of real theft of resources.
This time, Slashdot will get a taste of its own medicine as it's Slashdotted at midnight when it comes back up from the upgrade (and then goes back down). The fact that it's a Friday night will have little effect, given the audience.
I read alot, particularly content on the web, so I'm not really concerned with our culture becoming "post-literate" because of the decline in novel consumption. The thing I do worry about, however, is attention sp[...]
Yeah I agree, but your post was way too damn long. I had to work to keep interest after the first sentence.
Who will watch the watcher watcher, in other words? I see where you're going with this... the solution, more people outfitted with night-vision goggles to watch the ones already outfitted with them! This is beginning to sound like the old laser-tag outfits from the 1980s.
So, instead of getting $1.05 Million, or even $175,000 in bonus and severance, you're stuck with the $50,000 in severance. I think I would be pissed in this situation. Now for this guy, it's the same situation, just that there is a lot more money involved. Instead of getting $25 Million bonus, or getting the $125 million in options, he gets $10 Million in severance.
Bart: Uh, say, are you guys crooks? Tony: Bart, um, is it wrong to steal a loaf of bread to feed your starving family? Bart: No. Tony: Well, suppose you got a large starving family. Is it wrong to steal a truckload of bread to feed them? Bart: Uh uh. Tony: And, what if your family don't like bread? They like... cigarettes? Bart: I guess that's okay. Tony: Now, what if instead of giving them away, you sold them at a price that was practically giving them away. Would that be a crime, Bart? Bart: Hell, no! Tony: Enjoy your gift.
How long before nonvolatile memory becomes the solution to crash-prone software rather than better programming?
Good, now I'll be able to preserve memory corruption even after a power-cycle! Last time I checked, software crashes weren't due to the fact that DRAM loses its contents when powered down.
So, they clean your windows and also offer a replacement for them? Let's just hope the new guy doesn't remove the windows and install a command-line in your car by mistake. I'd hate to be a pedestrian in its path...
Most of the games found on them are rudimentary, with flat, cartoonish graphics and simple scenes. But that is going to change. Soon cellphone owners will be able to play games with realistic three-dimensional graphics rivaling those on PC's...
...and in a few years we'll be able to pay a premium to play these "classics".
Anyway, what's wrong with rudimentary, flat, cartoonish graphics, if that's what you're looking for? I live in 3D all the time and would rather take a break in something different, rather than virtual 3D.
You mean Microsoft could actually made Windows LESS SECURE? Holy crap!
What would it do? Network with your security system, wait until you're gone, unlock the doors to your house and use the outside speaker to blast an invitation for burglars to get free stuff?

Just give me a sniper rifle and I'll "hack" (more like crack, to pieces) a phone from a long distance.
Excellent idea - let's teach the kids that sharing is wrong.
Teacher! Does the school pay the creators for all the ideas it teaches in classes?
...but the screen capture utility didn't capture that for some reason.
We have been using Alcohol in cars since the 70's. Nowadays, we can choose the best ($$) fuel in the gas stations.
"Honest, officer, the alcohol in the back was for my car!"

It should have said "Longhorn System Requirements Revealed"

When was the last time anyone saw Furby, really? I thought the military already neutralized that threat.
Apparently an autopsy was performed afterwards.
come on disable the record button on my tape deck too!!!
Mr. Anderson, I think you have more...pressing matters. What good is a tape deck if you can't...play?
Most movie bootlegs are inside jobs anyhow

Lead will kill your cats in a matter of minutes, not days or months.
Now you tell me...
First off, most additives are snake oil.
Wow, I've been looking for snake oil for ages. I wonder if it'll help my cats.

Obligatory Simpsons quote:

Did he have a mobile phone in his back pocket when he did this? Am I missing the part that relates to nerds?
He used nanomachine paint remover, of course!
One step closer to replacing HDD, CDROM, DVD and all those other "moving parts" storage devices.
Funny you mention this, since as far as I know magnetic memory stores bits by altering the orientation of molecules, i.e. moving parts.

Hey, I had to make a joke about something. 3 other people took my tin-foil hat joke :(
Thought-stealing rays are what you get for not wearing your tin-foil hat.
I didn't notice anything wrong with the version that I downloaded off the newsgroups.
I ripped and uploaded that copy, and I didn't notice anything wrong with my computer either.

I need to replace the harddrive soon or im going to be without a firewall.
On the bright side, your drive might turn into a fireball (I think Quantum made a drive of that name).

Only if it lied and said it was a Linux machine.
