When MS didn't feel like paying those stupid MP3 licenses, conspiracy theories started and some people said that MS is trying to force its WMA proprietary format on people. But when RedHat does the same thing, oh its for the good of us all.
I don't care about the people, I care about myself and my friends and parents.
Except that the person spying on you may also be working for a criminal organisation. It happened several times here in Canada and I'm sure it's still happening.
So in short, I am required to Open Source my life but the government on the other hand will not open his. Doesn't sound fair to me. Looks more like a friendly dicatorship.
I placed an unpatched Windows machine on the internet with no firewall protection whatsoever and shared the Inetpub directory. I wanted to know, how long it'll take before someone decides to crack into my machine. Sure enough, it took only two days.
This test really made me realise that there are plenty of crackers and criminals out there that are waiting for a chance to get into your PC.
The point I want to make is that, I'm sure those army computers have been accessed by crackers plenty of times before.
Well they gotta make a point. If the government can monitor our phone calls, internet emails, conversations, etc. then why can't we spy on the government to? Or does the governemnt thinks that its better than us and that it got more rights than us?
Federal law enforcement authorities searched the computers of a San Diego security firm that used the Internet to access government and military computers without authorization this summer, officials said yesterday.
So it looks like those ForensicTec computers aren't secure enough:)
I know KDE has RPM's and stuff, but everytime I download them there's plenty of libraries missing which is weird because I already have KDE and I'm just upgrading. After a few hours, I managed once to do a half-successfull update but once I started KDE all my icons, program files and shortcuts where missing
Pay? They're offering it for free, there's no way I'm just gonna pay for the heck of it. Improve it? I'm too lazy and why would I care? It's not like there's a lack of software and stuff. If a piece of software doesn't satisfy my needs I just install another one.
That's exactly the problem. I need to download and install a new distro everytime a new version of KDE comes up because I'm unable to upgrade because of missing libraries, missing icons, plenty of problems. With Ximian GNOME on the other hand, I use the web install and with a few clicks I'm all ready to go.
you said it yourself "licensing issues". He's a developer not a politician for God's sake. He better start doing his job well before telling the government what license to impose on people.
Well instead of discussing the usability problems of KDE and the huge installation issues, he prefer to just go ahead and blame Microsoft. One reason I stick with GNOME is that it's easy to upgrade, I was never able to upgrade my KDE though. They have only themselves to blame for there lack of success.
I dare you to find a big corporation that doesn't use that "use my product or else tactic". Hell I have a small business and I use that tactic but I'll never force anyone to use my products. I just encourage them to use my products if they want better pricing.

hmmm, from what I understood, since sept. 11, they don't need no permission anymore.
Well does the government have the right to know that I'm cheating on my wife? I don't think so.
I don't care about the people, I care about myself and my friends and parents.

Good enough. Then they should understand that there are things that the government should not know and stop spying on us.
So I'm part of the government yet I can't know everything about it?
So in short, I am required to Open Source my life but the government on the other hand will not open his. Doesn't sound fair to me. Looks more like a friendly dicatorship.
This looks like hierarchy to me.
Anyway, I say live and let live. There's just no reason for the government to put his nose in other peoples business.

I say enough is enough and its time for a change.
Well it's still a security problem if people or the government can just go in there and access ForensicTech computers :)
Yeah I was joking, couldn't help it.

yep I'm running Redhat

But the question is. Have you ever upgraded KDE without at the same time upgrading your linux distribution?
If KDE beats Windows I would have switched a long time ago. I try it every now and then and it has been pretty useless and too ugly in my opinion.

Not to mention all the lawsuits that it brought. Once the EFF pushes for some kind of stupid law, then I'll complain.
For me, all those that mix business and lawsuits are bastards.
good enough, so between a FREE Windows and a FREE Linux, they chose the FREE Windows. So in there view, Windows is much better.
They're offering them a good deal, they're not suing them. For the non-initiated, it's called business.
Yeah, buy software from the wonderful people at the other company who puts the needs of their customer before anything.
What's wrong with caring about customers?
IBM makes lots of closed source software. But everything RedHat does is GPL.
I believe there installation scripts are proprietary though.
heuh? What kind of licenses doesn't allow you to switch vendor? If what you say is true, I should be in prison now for switching over and over again.
