Who cares about boot time. Its a phone, when is it ever off?
Yes, because anyone who does anything different from the way you do it is stupid, right?
I often turn my phone off. Longer battery life, fewer interruptions. However, when I need to make a call, I'd rather have my phone on as quickly as possible.
A quick boot is a great feature for people who use their phones as a tool, not for people whose life runs around their phones. And, believe me, despite what you see on the streets these days, there are people whose lives haven't been totally dominated by their phones.
I prefer to just put my phone into airplane mode. It drains maybe a percent or 2 over a day and still leaves me interrupt free.
I have an Android with all the bells and whistles and use tethering all the time.
Can I break my Sprint contract because of this?
You probably could. But who are you going to move to then? Verizon? They cap normal data as well, where sprint still has unlimited. Att? They have lower caps than Verizon.
You could root your phone and wireless tether for free.
"The companion core is an interesting idea to increase battery life."
More likely, an idea to increase yields.
1 Make 5 core chips
2 When testing, take the core that fails at the lowest clock rate and make it the poor step-child.
3 ???
4 Profit by saying that under-performing core is a feature!
Seriously, if this were about energy savings, why not just put a clock divisor on an existing core to produce savings?
According to the TFA that 5th core isn't made the same as the other 4 cores. The 5th core is actually processed using a different process than what the other 4 use. It isn't physically the same core.
Ideally everything in your wallet could be in your phone
And ideally, smartphones would be in everyone's pocket.. But cellular carriers in the home country of Google and Slashdot continue to price smartphone service as a luxury.
I wouldn't consider my smartphone a "Luxury". I paid $110 for my phone and only pay $25 a month for unlimited text, data and 300 minutes of voice through VirginMobile. Sure it isn't a high end phone and doesn't have the greatest coverage over the US, but where it does have coverage it is generally great and it fits all of my needs as of right now.
Uh, does anyone realize that there is an actual reason for our way of writing the date?
It follows the way we say it in speech. The numbers are just an abbreviation, after all. We don't say 1st September, 1990; we say September 1st, 1990. So it follows that when you use the abbreviation, you use the same order.
How do you know we don't say that because it is written that way?
Isn't that why you would also want to use a filesystem such as ZFS for better file integrity along with putting several of the drives in RAID so that you can just replace one if it fails.
> omitting an optical drive in a full-size desktop computer build seems something like cheating
Why? Even if you can get a DVD burner for under $20 - if the goal is to build a sub-$200 computer, and you can install all your software without one, then why intentionally eat up 10% of your budget on something you don't even need?
You're right! Its not like you need a monitor, mouse or keyboard. People can read the VGA signals with their tongues and input via their brain.
We irradiate meat after the animal is DEAD! At that point, there is no problem with DAMAGING THE DNA, RNA, and mRNA, because THEY AREN'T BEING USED ANYMORE!
So, you *still* need to buy an adapter, but because it's an adapter for the camera, not the Android tablet that has the microSD port it doesn't count as a negative against the tablet...
Well every microSD card that I have ever bought has came with this adapter, so I wouldn't need to buy it separately. Also, it doesn't add any additional bulk to the camera because it would fit inside of the camera just like a normal SD card.
You realize that you could get a microSD card to use in any standard camera that accepts standard SD cards, right? All you need is a little adapter that could stay in the camera. When you want to transfer pictures to your android tablet (or phone) you simply take the microSD card out of the adapter and into your device at hand.
Well every block of the file has to be on a hard drive *somewhere*. If people don't keep it around then the bits are gone.
Since the.torrent has the hashes for the data in the torrent couldn't it be possible (not easy, but still possible) to brute force a few remaining bits of a torrent?

\it's just too big and used to kill off.
So a rather large, fat man is too big to die?

I really don't get why people still "Ask Slashdot".
Have you considered Asking Slashdot about that?
This is gold.

"Unlimited" call time up to IIRC 5,000 minutes.
Well, then, it's not exactly unlimited, is it?
And if you said "unlimited" call time up to 50,000 minutes, that wouldn't exactly be limitless but the limit would be impossible to reach in a month.
I have rounded up the best 3TB Hard Drives in my pants!
That's odd, some girl just told me that you had a 3 1/2" floppy.

Most people's brains aren't used either...
Joking, but Neanderthals had larger brains than modern humans, actually.
And an IBM 700 mainframe is larger than a modern i7 desktop. What's your point?
Business for Proxy servers will be going up. The more governments intrude, the more the people will fight back.
Or maybe there will be an increase in TOR usage.
Give them a break, CmdrTaco did just retire.

And now we're back to needing an adapter again. Except this one's a lot smaller, and easier to lose.
And could stay in the camera, where if you lose the adapter is the least of your worries.
So you need an adapter either way. Why again is this a fault of the iPad?
But the difference is that the adapter can stay in the camera.

But I thought that I was whisper_jeff!
Yes, but Virgin doesn't roam onto Verizon's network. There are many places where you won't get service.

Is the *internet* really the best place to ask this question?
Then just use ALAC
