I'm going to get a broadband connection in New York city (Staten Island, actually). Until now I've been using AT&T worldnet, which has been fine. What pitfalls should I expect? How much should I be willing to pay?
Okay. so you can read all of the drive's memory in three seconds. (Not really, since you'll probably never get to the theoretical transfer speed).
Wouldn't it be more useful if it was 224 TB? If I was going to buy something like this for my PC (!) I would want total storage to be more than three times the bandwidth...
I hit the update button in the tools menu, and it didn't mention anything about 10.1.3.
All it gave me was some "Welcome to Windows Update" page.:-(

Sure, they wake up in prison. But what about when you don't have enough prison space for everyone? (ie: Indians under the influence of Gandhi in the early fourties)
Well, that means that I have until 2003 to get WinXP to work on my two systems. So far it wort of installs on both my systems, but the amount I've have to change the default preferences is legion. So far I've taken 5 pages of notes so that I can reproduce the system the next time I have to re-install it. (What, you think I'll never have to do that on a MS system???)
Is this TOS, TNG, or ENT? I think Linux could make a lot of headway in ENT or even TOS. It's got years before it can compete with the system in _The Next Generation_.

So, what your saying is....
... That you want an OS that you can drop onto the Emacs environment?
... A setup so that you can run a different OS in each Emacs buffer?
Frankly, the moon is about the only place you could safely put it. Assuming that any post-modern culture develops, it will be some time before they are able to detect concentrated radiation on earth. (Well, except by noticing that people start dropping off, at least).
On the moon, the material will be safe until the race has space-faring ability and will (with any luck) know not to touch the plutonium. Who knows. Maybe they will be able to put it to good use in the future. (Which makes it a better idea than to drop it into the sun.:-)
32. Widespread cures for viral disease
Compared to 1950? Again absolutely yes.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no viral disease that has a "cure". The best we can do is put them under remission.
What's the cure for the common cold? AIDS? Herpes? The Flu?
For the common cold, folk remidies work almost as well as zinc preparations and such.
AIDS meds have to be taken for the rest of the persons life to continue remission.
Herpes outbreaks can be stopped with acyclovir, but it just means you'll get it again in a few months/years.
There are a couple antivirals for the viral flu (Influenza virus) but they have to be administered within 48 hours of symptoms beginning and just shorten the course by a couple days. Not really a big thing, since the flu is self-limited, anyway.

Yeah, but what about a beowolf... oh, nevermind...
What, dodn't you mean portable OGG Player?
