    1. How is a nexus 7 locked down? The bootloader is unlocked and you don't have to stick with android.

    Exactly. You can, for instance, install Ubuntu on it. There are some issues, but the Nexus 7 is surely the most ARM-based tablet on the market right now.

    I'm sorry about that mistake, but my point still applies: ZTE, a Chinese manufacturer, launched two Windows Phone 7.5 devices. WP is also a generic, vulnerable to Chinese competition, platform.

    Android is generic, so they have no edge over Chinese manufacturers.

    I really don't get why this argument applies against Android but misteriously doesn't apply against Windows Phone. Hello, WP is also a generic, third-party licensed operating system, not a in-house solution. After all, HTC is a Chinese manufacturer and also uses Windows Phone...

    It seems that ARM will soon release open source drivers for those babies...
    Unfortunatelly, they will not be *fully* open source:

    For the ARM Mali T6xx Linux enablement, they are only using a DRM driver for driving the display controller while they have their own separate kernel driver for poking and handling the GPU itself. ARM though isn't being too open-source friendly in terms of a fully open stack or providing proper documentation.

    Good grief.

    Note that the peer review process does not need to be facilitated by academic publishing companies. Universities could organize peer review, and universities could publish journals online at no cost.

    Exactly. And this is how research in Brazil is published. Universities mantain open access e-journals with peer reviews. I can't believe that more developed countries are still bullied by academic publishing companies.

    I have a Motorola Milestone 1 (the international locked-bootloader version of the "Droid") and I can tell you that a lot of complex games are unavaliable to my device in the Android Market.

    What? I can play DLNA just fine over my wireless network (last-year Samsung Smart TV accessing my NAS). I can open mkv, avi and other file formats just fine. DLNA does _not_ restrict file formats. It _mandates_ a small list of file formats (h264 and such), but the manufacturer is free to support more formats, as Samung does.
