They are merging because shareholders want them to keep the revenue growth steady at the very least if not increasing. Because they are very large companies already it's very hard for them to do this organically (getting new subscribers, having existing customers sign up for more services). When you are a $10M company it's easier to meet your 5% growth target than when you are a $100B company in a stagnant market. So the companies merge, create partnerships, and find other ways to get their growth boosted.

No. Going out and murdering a bunch of people makes you a mass murderer but the politicians and media seem to have forgotten that today. They call every violent act, especially if carried out by a Muslim, a terrorist act.

Terrorism is designed to spread a message along with the fear. That's why you see a message or group taking responsibility for the act. There are other criteria too for it to be terrorism. For example it can't be directed at a single person. A person making life hell for their spouse that divorced them is terrible for the spouse but isn't terrorism. You would need something like the Elbonian Liberation Front blowing up transportation links into the country to stop investment by foreign countries in order to bring down the government/monarchy/whoever is in charge and releasing their demands.

I have my doubts about this. The supermarket will be giving up a lot of floor space for just one or two items. I have a small hydroponic unit in my kitchen and I use it for lettuce instead of herbs. But when I start lettuce it takes three to four weeks for me to be able to pick leaves off. Even if the company has been able to shave that down to a couple of weeks that's a lot of trays of herbs sitting there not earning money for the store while a few trays are. I'm sure that the store would rather have the space devoted to something else that would be earring money.

Then the store will have to pay for extra electricity (lights and heating) and water. There will be extra staff time to take care of the unit and help people to have problems getting the produce themselves.

The company could have put in a unique refrigerator containing their picked herbs and opened a facility in each city (or offered the stores one in a region). I don't expect to see one of these "farm" in a store that I go to.

It's just hydroponics. You've probably had some and didn't realize. I have an AeroGarden hydroponics kit in my kitchen and when I use the commercial variety of seeds it only tastes a bit better than the store because it's fresher. But when I use heirloom varieties where the taste hasn't been bred out of the vegetables it's amazing. It's the same thing with these. It will mostly depend on what varieties of plants they use.

If there's one thing worse than the employees it's the customers. At least 10% of them don't know how to use the self-checkout properly yet they still go through them. Heck look at the trouble people still have with putting their PIN with their credit card. And then you want them to harvest the right produce from this. I'm willing to bet someone gets stuck in there at least once a week. Never mind the hygiene issues. At least with what they have now (pre-picked bunches stacked up) there's no need for people to touch everything but this system is encouraging people to touch every leaf.

But do we really need the studs and joists in our houses to be smooth. If we left them rough imagine how many trees we could save by just cutting them 1.5 x 3.5. Or we could cut them the same size for the outer walls and use the space for more insulation (I'm thinking 2 x 6s). Just wear a pair of gloves when working with the wood. It's not like most of they people are fine craftsmen doing the work. I saw one group build a wall by laying out the studs and cutting the excess off with a chain saw.

When the wood is going to be shown or for the less experienced people then have traditional lumber that is planed available. But we don't really need wood that has been planed when it's going to be handled once and then hidden away. It's a huge waste of trees and resources (mostly electricity now since it's probably mostly automated) to plane the lumber.

In exchange for praising Trump, letting him claim job creation, and/or doing business with some of his companies they will find that they can bring in more H-1B employees to increase the profits of their contracts.

We would save on hospital costs, people would have better lives without or improved asthma and other lung diseases, it would be easier to breath in cities, we wouldn't have to clean up after any further pollution damage. There is a lot of environmental damage using fossil fuels from the extraction, transportation, and burning. The taxpayer has ended up with bill for much more than we were supposed to. In Western Canada there are thousands of old wells that need to be retired that taxpayers got stuck for. What happens when coal ash gets free of its containment and into rivers?

None of this has anything to do with climate change but if we stopped burning fossil fuels because of climate change we would stop having this problems (or at least they would stop being added to). But if it helps you can think of it as we solve all of those problems and get climate change thrown in for free.

There's a step before that in which Hollywood makes a crap movie. You don't see them complaining about this happening with the blockbusters (I still think they are crap but that's a different post). It doesn't matter if people have seen the movie before if the movie is one that they like. Make a movie that they really like then they'll watch it more than once and putting it out on the Internet will be good advertising for it. If Ten Network wants to blame someone then fire the person for picking their movies.

And part of the people are getting caught up in it like the shooter who had such a hatred for Republicans that he went out to try and kill as many as possible. Each side plays the victim while inciting the followers with more hate. The only time the two sides come together seems to share a hatred for a common enemy outside of the country. It's always spreading more hate.

Someone needs to stop this cycle of hatred because it's spreading across the world. It's showing up in Canada and Europe. Thankfully it's not as bad as it could be with some of the recent elections but it's not the same as having someone providing a hope for something better.
