Now that Elon isn't spending so much time screwing things up at Tesla it looks like he's spending more time over at SpaceX. Crap! Things were going so well over there too. Elon is good for getting projects started and setting the goals for his companies but he should be kept well away from the daily running of them (and away from Twitter).
If by we you mean the US then I doubt the US is going to ask for China to be removed from the WTO since the US wants to leave the WTO themselves.
And China isn't the only country that doesn't play by the established rules when it's in their best interests. The US does this quite often, especially since Trump has come into office.
Why are just some of the tech companies being targeted? I notice that Apple wasn't included in this list and they are one of the biggest users of these tax dodges. Starbucks is another. If you are going to go after companies that are playing loose with the rules then why not go after all of them?
The real reason it's shutting down because Hollywood doesn't want the new generations to see the old movies in order to compare them to the crap the studios put out today.
Here's a review of the project you are thinking of and another way of doing underwater compressed air storage. I was looking for this project to post before I came across your message. There's a diagram showing how the system in Toronto works. Unfortunately there's no detailed numbers on how efficient or competitive it is.
They are storing the heat captured during compressing to heat up the air when they decompress the air.
You won't get a squadron of F-35s as a squadron is usually 12 or 24 planes and the F-35 costs around $135M. You might get a flight of F-35s which is 3 or 4 planes.
I was reading through the discussion on the Debian bug site and Martin has some crazy ideas. He thinks that eventually the default mail router should be gmail and that/etc/resolv.conf will be removed.
This is happening in Canada now because we are aligning our copyright, patent, and trademark laws with the US in preparation for a trade agreement. I think it was for theTPP which the US didn't end up signing. We just signed the enacted the revised TPP agreement that doesn't include the US and didn't really need to make the changes to copyright, if that's what they were for.
Tools like this should make lawyers less expensive and available to more people as they won't have to spend their time examining documents when a computer can do that. (Actually the junior lawyers are for that and for researching now.) Let the lawyers spend time with clients, in talks with the other sides lawyers, or in court. Speeding up the discovery process should get cases to trial sooner too.
The lawyers that have to worry are the ones that are really good at researching. Those that are good with clients and in the courtroom will benefit from the oncoming computer tools.
In September 2018 Ottawa was hit was hit with six tornadoes and parts of the city were without power for over 48 hours. I was without it for 48 hours. The cell towers near me went down after a couple of hours, as long as their batteries lasted. The cell companies were rushing around to try and get generators hooked up to their equipment.
The reception with the generators supplying electricity was terrible. I could get my mail a couple of times but no other data for the rest of the event. I could make calls though. My neighbour could only access data on his phone if he went to the end of his driveway in one spot. As soon as the electricity came back on all of the problems with the data were gone.
The cell companies used to be required to keep backup power on site but that restriction was loosened a while ago to make it easier/more profitable for the companies.
With 5G it's going to be terrible in a disaster when the cell points are going to be distributed all over instead of the relatively few cell towers. If a company has their antennas distributed on street lights throughout a city then how are they going to have backup power?
For that kind of money spend get something like a Synology NAS which will do your email plus a whole lot more such as backups, cloud, web server, media server, and even WordPress. It'll cost a bit more because you will have to buy the hard drives or SSDs.
Of course as soon as you open up the server to the outside world you become a target. I know that Synology is good at getting the updates out but will the people apply them?
If your business was only viable due to the lower costs of China Mail other than the other shipping methods available then I don't think that your business was really that viable in the first place.
Because of global warming. Canada can now easily trade with its second closest neighbor, Russia.
That's wrong for so many reasons. Not the climate change part. Canada doesn't do much trade with Russia compared to other countries that we trade with. And we certainly wouldn't ship goods through the north.
The vast majority of Canada's population and manufacturing base is close to the US. To move things overseas our infrastructure is built up to move goods east or west. There is almost no infrastructure to move things northward. Today there's a rail line (which has not been working the last year or two), some ice roads during winter, small planes, and cargo ships in mid summer to fall. This is because there's a large area land that was permafrost but the top part doesn't stay frozen anymore. The government hasn't put the investment in to build more permanent lines of transportation up north. So in order to ship goods to other nations as per your plan the goods would have to be shipped up north in the first place. Better to just ship them from the other ports in the first place.
The large ships make their own freshwater. The engines are also used to create electricity for the ship. While all of the systems use a lot of electricity and that won't change with a self-sailing ship there will be a lot of savings too. You won't need all the lighting for one thing. The kitchen uses a lot of electricity. The whole water distillation would take a lot of energy to create water for twenty some people (drinking, cooking, washing, toilets, laundry, etc).
There are efficiencies of scale that are gained by the magnitude of scale that the inexpensive shipping allows.
The most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly thing that can be is not to buy so much junk. It doesn't matter where it's made and how it's transported if you make a bunch of extra stuff that you don't need then it's a waste of resources. In my part of the Canada the self-storage business is booming because people have bought so much stuff they can't find room in their houses.
Many places are out of helicopter range using the average helicopter. There have been a small number of Transatlantic flights and Transpacific flights. Those are done with refuelling, special configurations, or taking short flights across.
Most likely a repair crew will be flown to a nearby port and then take a fast ship out to the ship that has the problem.

Depends on who is crewing her. The US Navy in the Pacific has been pretty good at hitting things over the past couple of years.

At least a State Income Tax is fixed to your income. The more you make, the more you're taxed
At least until the point you need to hire an accountant and then the more you make the less tex you pay.

.. when the computer is turned off.
Sounds like an app to find new people to give medication to. Big Pharma has to keep making massive profits.
First place to start is kick the politicians off.

For a lot of Hollywood movies the CGI is the storyline.

Kicking out all of the immigrants opens up a lot of jobs.

Actual horse blinders look better.

After what they did in Turkey? How about what they've been doing in Yemen? And their own country? The blockade on Qatar?
