    what a half assed summary, and it was not the IBM/Microsoft partnership that did shit, its the MS licencing agreement that allowed MS to sell to other people than IBM that made a huge fucking difference when the clones came in and obliterated IBM at their own game

    you can uninstall it, delete it, manually remove it from the registry, use specialized tools, and even beg for the authors to provide help , but BAM there is a fucking windows installer asking you to insert the disk every time you fart

    its funny years ago I went on a hunt for the sharpest flat front CRT I could find to see the "edges of pixels" and would not have it any other way for old bitmap games, but on mondern high res games on modern high res monitors if you dont have it it just sprinkles the entire screen with jaggie noise.

    go get a early pentium4 with 512 megs of ram, run gnome and then run xfce (try your best to not infect it with too many gnome libs) you will see what lighter means instantly

    on a much more extreme example take my powermac 9600/300. yea its slow but perfectly usable in xfce, in fact I had to use it for a couple weeks when my main desktop took a dump, uses half of its 256 megs of memory and suits its needs as both a daily electronics bench machine and retro computer (its 14 years old). I installed *something* that installed and started a gnome process and it doubled the boot time and left me with like 3% free memory, then failed to load the application.

    and devices like the ls120 superdisk balanced that out to a point, a 3.5 inch 120 meg format that was compatible with all previous IBM compatible 3.5 inch drives

    I dont know where you shopped but I got a 4x reader 1x writer scsi hp drive for 99 bucks in 1996, and that was about the start of the zip madness
