IBM's worth is from much more than PC sales, they kind of do other things, does IBM even make PC's anymore? I know levno or whatever but thats a totally different company now isnt it?
what a half assed summary, and it was not the IBM/Microsoft partnership that did shit, its the MS licencing agreement that allowed MS to sell to other people than IBM that made a huge fucking difference when the clones came in and obliterated IBM at their own game
lol yea ask apple how that attitude worked for them in the 80's or as I like to remember them as the "aww fuck the customer they will buy a new 300$ drive again cause we fussed with the plug a bit" era
you can uninstall it, delete it, manually remove it from the registry, use specialized tools, and even beg for the authors to provide help , but BAM there is a fucking windows installer asking you to insert the disk every time you fart
its funny years ago I went on a hunt for the sharpest flat front CRT I could find to see the "edges of pixels" and would not have it any other way for old bitmap games, but on mondern high res games on modern high res monitors if you dont have it it just sprinkles the entire screen with jaggie noise.
go get a early pentium4 with 512 megs of ram, run gnome and then run xfce (try your best to not infect it with too many gnome libs) you will see what lighter means instantly
on a much more extreme example take my powermac 9600/300. yea its slow but perfectly usable in xfce, in fact I had to use it for a couple weeks when my main desktop took a dump, uses half of its 256 megs of memory and suits its needs as both a daily electronics bench machine and retro computer (its 14 years old). I installed *something* that installed and started a gnome process and it doubled the boot time and left me with like 3% free memory, then failed to load the application.
over stupid shit, see how far it will get you in the real world, its not like either of you have a compelling product. News here guys, only a fraction of linux users give a fuck about your overbloat window managers, you have bigger things to worry about in your niche within a niche market for free software
Its painfully obious, think of this, you write a floppy in your perfectly fine 386 to take to a buddies, you get in your summer hot 1989 escort and drive 20 min with the ac on. you pop it in their perfectly fine computer and the fucker is dead
the floppy killed the floppy, and anyone that had to actually rely on one fucking knows that
and devices like the ls120 superdisk balanced that out to a point, a 3.5 inch 120 meg format that was compatible with all previous IBM compatible 3.5 inch drives
there is only one way to answer a question no one has asked... but this one has been asked and has been successful in most cases. The easy way is a large float connected to a crank-arm.
that is less than a fraction of the Constellation program and it might produce results that benifits mankind here on earth for generations, and not some future man in year 3000 on Uranus
yea cause being forced to use a 16 bit 4.7mhz computer at your desk was a huge stepback in 1981 you dink

Nah apple figured out a long time ago people get less irate when you fuck them in software, now sony on the other hand is doing the plug dance...

but it will only be 1 meter tall

cause kde wants it THEIR way, and gnome wants it THEIR way
frankly I dont see the problem, kde has historically had most of its software listed with a K in front, why change it

what market, you would be taking an idea to a monoploy who has no interest
this is not tivo your talking about, its a major utility
fine but dont come crying to me when OPEC fucks you up the ass again
didn't they have a pager with a keypad?

what reality are you living in? scsi was damn near dead in 98, you could pick up cards at compUSA for 30-40 bucks and a writer for 100
I paid 99 bucks 2 years sooner, and its in a external scsi box under my mac SE to this day, you suck at shopping
and devices like the ls120 superdisk balanced that out to a point, a 3.5 inch 120 meg format that was compatible with all previous IBM compatible 3.5 inch drives
I dont know where you shopped but I got a 4x reader 1x writer scsi hp drive for 99 bucks in 1996, and that was about the start of the zip madness
no man no! AOL was the entire floppy disk industry at one point, they killed themselves by switching to CD
