    um yea, I am often called a audio snob and even with players doing a side by side in a studio I can barley tell the difference, let alone half sloshed in a noisy bar with some shit PA humming over everything

    Yea ok I used to like mint when ubuntu went "pants on head retarded", but I havent been lately

    10 and anything before it works fine

    11 constantly fucks up something on the desktop with a "your taskabar (or clock or whatever) has stopped working, would you like to delete it?" trap

    12 ships with gnome 3 AND their clunky menu system, really how many start menus do I need ... MS apparently says zero so it could be worse

    12 with gnome 2 suffers the random thing is going to break and you should delete it syndrome as 11

    LXDE versions of them all plain suck, I view LXDE as a half finished pain in the ass version of XFCE that requires me to do dumb shit like open a file explorer to empty trash, or fart out a regular expression just to set the fucking clock format

    so now that 13 is out, I say "not for me", too much trouble, xubuntu is doing great, thanks, and they just released a new LTS

    I still have a TV like that, a 19 inch Kenmore, works great for my old video games when my crappy ass 3 year lifespan LCD TV cant work with a light gun ... or bother putting current limiting inline with its futuristic LED backlight. ... fucking Kenmore is older than I am, and I was born in the 70's AND still has a decent picture!

    SSD's can be nice and fast but shit they are still pricy, and they have their issues ... coming from someone who still uses a old 80 meg scsi drive frequently on his vintage computers, I really dont want something thats going to kill itself in less than a decade

    mechanical drives are peaked right now in terms of speed, and on my main computer, with a ton of games on it, 3 OS and more personal files on it than I would ever use (projects and whatnot) am only using about 150GB (out of 500)

    great you can eventually slam 60T on a drive, maybe by then my 4T NAS would be full from me and the family, that is if all of our computers didnt have a half T in them already (8T if I combined it all into one resource)

    I dont store every single thing I have ever consumed for life on these things, and its going to be much longer than 2016 before I have a NEED for them, though at some point its futile to find a small drive for a reasonable price so they got us on demand ... I just want faster mechanical disks, something that can actually peak out a simple SATA1 Interface

    we get bigger, we get awesome interfaces but nothing to put on them other than overpriced, large ... for like 7 years ago, flash memory that slowly eats its own brain

    surely we can do better than just increasing space

    Ok before anyone else has a retard moment, the device in the article was introduced in 1956, and while it was very possible to have a radio tune into a special station that patched into the phone network ... it required you to be a licensed ham radio operator, it was the size of a half cinderblock, and it was only half duplex

    I wont dare hand someone random a linux disk, it may take only 10 seconds to hand them a disk, but who are they going to call when their printer doesnt work, or the software that came with their GPS doesnt function, or when open/libre office fucks up every single table in a 100 page report they need in the morning

    yea like less than 10 bucks a month for unlimited bandwidth ... your paying for advertising on something no one uses, and the privilege of being advertised on something some people use

    pay the 10 bucks, do a little leg work, kill the middle man, the only thing keeping the "official" industry alive, its not 1984, you dont have to produce physical copies, and mail them anymore

    a random short password is less strong than a simpleton long password

    if you mix the two you get even stronger, if you speek "leet" you would have read that password as normal english, and its something the OP could very easliy remember WHILE increasing length AND adding bits

    I dont have a receiver, some of us dont piss our money away on pointless toys, for a normal person with a TV its obnoxious to have to crank it full blast to hear dialog, and instantly crank it back down to 5% cause they cut to a scene with music, explosions, or whatever

    yes I would like to enjoy a movie without having to constantly fuck with the remote every two seconds, or go though a zeroing process tween media and playback devices( that appears to be longer than the install instructions for ubuntu) for every disk that pops up in the mailbox.

    make a system that amplifies dialog to the same level as everyfucking thing else in the movie so I dont have to constantly fiddle with my remote. Why is it in music we have the loudness wars where all sound is mashed into mindless noise at the peak of volume, but in movies there HAS to be a 100db difference between scenes

    on a side rant fuck applecare, its a great reason to not get apple products. A coworker spent nearly 3 grand on a laptop package with photoshop and applecare. It died 2 weeks after purchase, the geniuses took his machine for 2 weeks, while he was still attending the classes which prompted this purchase in the first place. When he got it back it was of course the same machine, which I stated laughing my ass off saying

    "Dude they just took you for a ride, you paid full brand new retail price for a refurbished laptop that you cuoldnt use for two weeks effecting your grades ... and your dumb ass paid extra for the privilege."
