I have some MRAM samples waiting to be tested in my drawer (4Mb chips from Freescale). They look good as replacement for flash chips rather that SRAM, because of better reliability and lower power consumption, however the technology is quite young and hasn't reached yet the packing density of flash, or the speed of SRAM. Lots of potential though.
The wording on Microsoft's web site is quite inappropriate.
Windows Vista minimum supported system requirements
Home Basic / Home Premium / Business / Ultimate
* 800 MHz processor and 512 MB of system memory
* 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
* Support for Super VGA graphics
* CD-ROM drive
I have a Personal Computer that fulfills these requirements. It will definitely not run any version of Vista. It's a G4 Mac.
I can go to 150000 Scoville before my tears break out. Of course, pure capsaicin is 15 million Scoville... But I can still chew on a chili piquin without dire consequences, which is more than most people I know can. Can't do a habanero though. For regular consumption (no pain involved) I stick to Tien Tsin - at 60000 Scoville they hit the spot like no other pepper.
I won't argue that you should install security updates. The key word here is "security" - as opposed to "whimsical". I will choose which updates are important and which not. Microsoft has had recently an abysmal record in deciding these things for me, so I decided to take matters in my own hands. Not only are automatic updates off on all my machines, but they will stay off until I find compelling reasons to turn them back on. Each week I will be manually checking for new updates, analyze each one and decide which ones I'll use and which not. Thank you.
Some PocketPC devices are built and work better than others... I have experienced crashes/freezes with various devices (Ipaq 1940, 4150 etc) however I eventuallty found one that works well - the Ipaq 2215. I'm on my second one (first one was run over by a car - don't ask) and I'm equally satisfied. It seems to be a class above all other PPC/WM devices. No crashes or freezes, battery life is actually long enough, can adjust screen brightness very finely etc.
I have disabled, then removed completely the windows update service from all my computers. I will manually install updates from now on, when and if I want them.
My phone (a Sanyo 4920) when in locked mode displays clearly on the screen a "lock" symbol. Also, when it goes in sleep mode, the screen is on but the backlight is off - still fairly easily readable in reflected light, and it says "sleep mode". The screen on the phone is never completely black unless the phone is completely turned off. There is absolutely no mistaking the phone in the off state vs sleep/locked state, by a simple glance at the screen.
I wouldn't mind having hafnium paint on there instead.
...coming up on a decade and a half...
Precisely my point. Young.
Replying to my own post - here's a brief paper explaining the technology (PDF warning):

Good thing they don't make plutonium-powered pacemakers anymore.

When you buy that PS2 don't forget to pick up the "missile tracking" module as well, or it won't do you much good.
BTW: where can I find a Radio Shack in the vicinity of Iraq or Libya?

There's no escape on ZX.
The correct answer is shift-break.
Can you please explain how is desktop search a security update, and why it should be forced on everyone whether they want it or not. Thanks.
I am even happier now for doing this: http://it.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=299057&cid=20619703
CTRL+C won't work on my ZX Spectrum.

You made a typo - sould have been trebuchetfortehwin.
I usually save in ODF. If I know for sure that the recipient doesn't have OO, I send it as rtf or something.
...I once earned myself a veritable hysteric breakdown, including something close to a murder threat when I only attempted to turn it back on
That was me. Sorry about that. Now s-l-o-w-l-y take your hands off the keyboard, and keep'em where I can see'em.
(a) It did remove the service. How can I tell? I deleted the updater files - they're gone.
As for (b), we'll wait and see. I'm paranoid, but not paranoid enough to think Microsoft would bring itself to ruin by such a move just to get me.
... for doing what I did http://it.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=299057&cid=20619703
Not that I really had any doubts to begin with.
Since 30000 feet = 9.14km...
Ah wait...
This isn't NASA.
Nothing to see here, move along.
There's nothing that a wig and a little make-up won't fix.
50-year-old guys from Brooklyn can be pretty tasty.

Better summed as: "iPhone:iDontcare"
