My biggest complaint about the Windows File Open dialog is its fixed size. I have a HUGE monitor at work, yet Microsoft forces me to scroll (horizontally, no doubt) a tiny window to find my files. I wish the File Open dialog could be maximized or at least resized.
Looks like all three of these GTK dialogs make the same design error..
This is just an example of the "Carnival Booth" algorithm for identifying which of your terrorist buddies are on the watch list.. and which are NOT. Then the guy not on the watch list can safely board a blame, knowing he will probably not be searched.
If nobody bought products advertised with spam, then spammers would not bother spamming. I know the spammer can send millions of spams for free, but the spammers are paying with their time. If they truly knew that no one will spend to their 10 million emails, then most spammers would be detered.
remember, when trying to convince a politician a bill is bad:
if they are a Democrat, blame "Big Business"
if they are a Republican, blame Hollywood

Death of the PDA?

With a little help from Moore's Law, I think most personal computers will be replaced by something like oqo's "ultra-personal" computer. It's like a PDA, but it runs regular Windows XP (and so presumably could support Linux). And once our input/output devices like keyboards and monitors support something like Rendezvous/Bluetooth, we can just dock our oqo brick with our workstation or take it with us.
DriverLoader is not GPL, but now that someone has thought of the idea, how long until someone writes a GPL clone? Is the open source community just "causing the tail lights of commercial innovation" again?
In California, seatbelt tickets used to only be given if you were pulled over for some other infraction (did not have to be an accident). Now cops pull people over just because they are not wearing their seatbelts.
I wear my seltbeat because it might save my life, not because there is a law. I don't think the government should be ours nannies. People say the government wants people to wear seatbelts (or motorcycle helmets) to keep the state's medical costs down. Huh? When did California start paying for socialized health care?
The one thing he doesn't like (as per the bible) is being tested (which sounds pretty logical for a diety, right?). So anytime you use science against religion, it will always fail.
So if scientists create an experiment to test a hypothesis about God, he will purposely invalidate their results. Therefore, we need to create an experiment using data that was collected in the past BEFORE God knew that data would be used to test him. Of course, someone will claim that omnipotent God knew even then that someone would use that data to test him later.
They should also test which religion has the most POWERFUL God. The religion with the most answered prays (i.e. most succesful "prayee" recoveries) has the most powerful or most compassionate God!
They should also study whether the person praying must share the same religion as the "prayee". If a Jew prays for a Christian, is that less effective than a Jew praying for a Jew?
Both the Israelis and the Palestinians make claim for the same land. For decades, both sides have made it obvious that neither will leave.
My question: why must one side lose and the other win? Why don't the Israelis and the Palestinians work together and create a secular democratic government? Jews and Arabs can work and live side by side. This is a win/win situation! Let economic freedom and inter-dependencies foster peace.
If the Israelis and the Palestinians are arguing JUST over land, then this is the solution. If the issue is about revenge, then there is no solution.
just follow the money. Nail the company that hired the spammer, regardless of what the spam advertises.

and how does Linux 0.99 compare to Linux 2.6?

Politics is about getting re-elected, first and foremost.
Then create term limits of 1 term? Poof. There is no such thing as re-election.
Who will pay for these incubation tanks? The welfare mother or Joe Taxpayer?
You forgot step #4:
4. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM A SPAMMER
If nobody bought products advertised with spam, then spammers would not bother spamming. I know the spammer can send millions of spams for free, but the spammers are paying with their time. If they truly knew that no one will spend to their 10 million emails, then most spammers would be detered.
I always wondered how the spammers could hide their identity, yet somehow still be able to receive your payment for their Viagra/whatever!?
DCOM.NET?
"The big bad federal government wants to take away your TV... over my dead body!"
Maybe this is the issue that will finally push the Libertarian Party into the mainstream!
I'm curious: what was the one RIAA album released on DAT?

Keeping your code portable to old systems will make porting your code to NEW systems much easier.

expecting an SCSI driver to work with an IDE harddisk
you mean like how Linux IDE code and CD-ROM burning require Linux's SCSI support? talk about a hacked up system with broken modularity..
mmmm.. braaaains...

thanks for the links. very interesting.
They call the same god by a different name, it'd never work.
good point. In Soviet USA, people claim different gods have the same name: "under God".
