    Those nine Linux vulnerabilities were all in the kernel, a small part of an entire Linux distro. The two Windows vulnerabilities were in the entire Windows "distro." Is Linux's defect density greater than Windows'?

    When I was a kid, I attempted numerous cryogenic experiments on bees. I froze them in my freezer and would then try to wake them using sunlight or the microwave. Here are my results:

    Bee in microwave 0-5 seconds: no change in behavior
    Bee in microwave 5-10 seconds: rapid movement
    Bee in microwave 10+ seconds: no movement/game over

    I now regret my mad science experiments (there were many others), but at least I can share the scientific results with others. Let not those bees die in vain...

    I really cant stand the way ignorance and stupidity is glorified in western cultures. It's not an american thing, since I'm canadian and have lived in the UK - it seems to be a white thing.


    It's not a White Thing because it is also common in African American culture.

    Historically, I wonder who first spec'd and wrote gets(). The offending author should step forward from the annals of history and take an embarrassed bow. Was it Dennis Ritchie? What was it?

    This Usenet post from 1992 says Dennis Ritche wrote the stdio library, but gets() is part of the STRING library written by someone else.

    except XFS required major changes to non-FS kernel code that would affect all file systems. If the ReiserFS V4 patch is completely self-contained, then I doubt Linus will have a problem adding it as an "experimental" feature.

    You failed to mention that the paper also demonstrates that ext3 does not scale with the number of processors. I bet the bottleneck is the (single?) journal file.
