    I sadly agree, kicking ass helps but it is not even necessary nor sufficient to rise to that hypothetical upper half, however being good at politic is a sure prerequisite to rise in the upper half of any organization composed of more than 100 persons.

    I was trolling for a good response as I have to convince a colleague (the bad side of unions...) who is more exposed to customers. I have more Italian dress shirts than there are days in a week so I do not think that I dress that bad for an API builder.

    I will try one of them then, I was put off by the Head first on design pattern that collect dust in my gf bookcase but I it is in my comfort zone as I could write a boring book, an assured commercial flop, on the over usage of those patterns in at wrong place by the cargo-cult programmers.

    My office is in the basement, I only talk to programmers and have no interaction with the business side. I produce applicative glue, webapps ductape and integration screwdriver for ours programmers usages. Why would anyone think that I represent my company in any way ?
