    I've never worked anywhere where the problem was developers with too little to do

    Where I work it sometimes happens and it is the worst thing in the world, being paid to no nothing is awful. And this happen because our management and business analysts suck but we the programmers kick ass.

    So you'd be investigated. And you'd pass investigation, because you didn't cheat.

    No, that is false. There are innocent that get convicted in a criminal court, that have more rigorous procedure than an academic tribunal. So you would then have a chance to be wrongly convicted

    well here in Canada they absolutely love mls.ca (a real estate agency aggregator). You find a house that you like, call your agent, they call their agent, he schedule a visit, your agent negotiate a 5000$ price drop because he knows that it was a divorce and you buy the house !

    You know that you 'knew it all anyway' and your parents hoped you wouldn't want to get involved with anybody until you were out on your own.

    My parent bought me condom and talk to me about contraception when I had my first gf at 16, like all responsible parent should do. Yes it was embarrassing but it was a lot better than undesired pregnancy and STDs. I also had my room in the basement with a private bathroom and a private entrance, so I did not bother anyone when I fucked at night.

    We take it at face value because the Vatican had a branch named Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Universal Inquisition. and the christian before Luther were accepting the authority of the Vatican. But I must admit that according to the teaching of the Christ they were not Christian (as most of today christian)

    Also the worst thing about the Spanish inquisition that is that is lasted from 1480 to 1830. Creating a tradition of ignorance and fear that was hard to overcome.

    Sure our modern mass murders were a lot more intense but they were also a lot more time-bounded. We were also a lot quicker to realize how wrong they were.

    Anyway my sleeping pill is making it hard to type in a coherent fashion so I hope that this stream of words gave you the beginning of an answer to your first question.

    Try building a civilization without religion. So far every attempt has ended in Horrors far worse than any nuke unleashed to date. Worse than any Crusade or Inquisition even.

    no it is really orthogonal. You could imagine free as in freedom but closed software. Even tough it did not exist (and if it does it is brainless), it is conceptually possible to have a license that grant the right to patch and redistribute a binary blob.

    according to the OSI there is a whole spectrum between open and free
    free and open are orthogonal concept

    I don't see the adoption of something by a dictator as a great endorsement. And I am certain that the code in theirs own repository will contain some kind of monitoring system of some sort that will report back to today's KGB
