Every network is secure as one makes it. You could be running anything and still have it be insecure. Do you REALLY think that Linux even had a REMOTE chance in hell to be accepted? Most large companies wont touch Linux with a 50 foot pole due to limited to zero support, drivers for hardware written by 16 y/o's, and the overall need to do everything manually.
Why is this such a surprise to anyone? Microsoft isnt perfect... but what O/S is? Also when was the last time you saw an MS box act as a DDOS drone?
Linux is more of a headache than most people here are willing to admit. Face it... if it wasnt EVERYONE would be using it. Why would anyone spend $400/desktop when the "same thing" is free from Redhat, SUSE, Debian etc...
Riiiight... EVERYone you know at EVERY company uses everything BUT Outlook.
I have a feeling that 50-60% of the people here run Outlook on a regular basis and that their network is running Exchange.
Just like how no one uses Office. They ALL use StarOffice, Vi, TeX and pico.
As for Mozilla, I find it horribly slow. I dont like the fact that I am unable to shrink the tool bars down to a small (and useable) size. I also find their IMAP client very slow and there is no way that I would use POP3 for a computer connected to the office network.
I am the network admin for an electronic internet based commodities exchange in Canada. This is what the company offers us.
I get pension contributions that equal 5% of my salary from the company. Which vested after only 2 years with the company.
I can also make RRSP (401k for Canadians) contributions of up to 5% of my salary and the company matches them.
They also offer full benefits (health, dental, eyewear and long term disability) and we usually see a 10%+ bonus yearly and a 3-7% raise yearly as well.
While we are a commodities exchange at least 50% of our staff is either in development, testing or network administration.
And I can see myself with a job here for a while. But I will most likely be in IT management or something before I am gone.
or does every Flintstones episode come to mind at this moment?
Lets think about this for a minute...
