  1. Maybe not too bad on Is There Anybody Out There? · · Score: 1

Maybe its not too bad to do the things you mention "in a very human-centric manner". Because isn't the meaning of this project making some earthling messages over to space?

I'm sorry, but it's hard to believe this.
1: what with the traditional tapes that are out of business nowadays. Before it was all about mp3s and cd-burners, people were buying empty tapes to record music from each other. What was the impact on record stores of that? It were the record stores themselves selling those empty tapes, now they sell empty cd-r's. Now, they also sell mp3-players and cd-recorders....
2: Why would they ask for a tracklist at the desk. If you know how to handle napster, you can search for the tracklist at online record ecommerce stores.

  4. why pure p2p? on P2P Piracy? Piffle! · · Score: 1

And what about p2p like ICQ? If there wasn't a central server the user authenticates to, you would never get your buddy's ip to build a peer to peer chat with him. Even more, the server connection sorts out to be some kind of backup line. When you loose connection with you contactee, you can still send messages through the server.

  5. deja weapon on Deja.com Vu! · · Score: 1

I see some discussions about dejanews as a newsclient in compare to f.i outlook. But it are the search capabilities of deja that are powerfull, not the client functionality. Does anyone else also has the feeling that all his knowledge is on deja.com? If I encounter any IT problem, or people try to defeat me with technology I don't know about, deja is my first source. Another way to use deja is to track down people. If you got someones name or email you can track him, you know the pattern of his life (the time he is online, the time he posts), you know his interests.... frightning!

  12. reasons why? on Shortcomings Of OSS? · · Score: 2
I try to find som arguments for the point that people start new projects instead of building on someone elses code
    • Don' underestimate the difficulty of digging in someone elses code. Every coder has sort of his/her:) own coding style. (maybe not the case for all languages). Developing companies nowadays try to put some developing standards on paper, so that each developer can continue another developers work. In open source projects, certainly those single programer cases without discussion groups, there can be total lack of this.
    • In most cases the code is fairly not documented. Theres a big risk that existing routines are used for what they are not ment for. personaly I had several cases that people report me a bug, but when I look at it, I find some dll that they picked out of another application and then misused for something completely different.
    • As an individual doing it for your hobby, it's maybe more fun to claim the whole thing for yourself. Don't underestimate this psychological satisfaction.

I think the problem of all these stressed people is that they bring their stress to home after work. Stress at work causes stress situations at home, but anyway: If you're married, or single, living alone or apart ... just make distinction between working time and time to free your mind. If you have your stress in head all the time, YOU NEVER GONNA KEEP IT UP.
I think Eoropean people have less trouble with this distinction than Americans do.
