Really? So so given that an app can freeze Windows, even windows7, clearly shows that Microsoft doesn't have a freakin clue given that they've had over 25 YEARS to get it right and clearly have not as of yet.
Exactly. That's why we say that windows is crap.
You should try a real OS once, just once (any Unix variant)
But, hey, go ahead, pick something you think we should "fight the power on"... start setting up a booth on the street corner to sell pirated copies of Microsoft windows and hit albums.
That would be a copyright violation, not a violation of software patents.
In your rush to defend good-old Apple, you got confused.
Take a break, have a coffee and think about this for a second.
For the last fucking time, you cant compare all of android to just the iPhone, you have to include all iOS devices.
Yeah, right, I have to include iPads and iPods as they are mobile too.
Well, then, Windows is the most successful, as I see hundred of millions of windows laptop and netbook everywhere.
And I think I have seen a Zune once. Just once.
The problem is all about training people on how to use the new software. Using OO Writer instead of Word for example. Sure, sounds simple, the nerds can probably fgure it out without blinking, but it is all the NON-NERDS who make it a very expensive idea to test. They all have to be trained, they lose some productivity for a while, they have to learn how to do new tricks that might be application specific and the like.
Every time somebody serves me the "training" bullshit, I ask them that simple question :
When you drive a new car, do you need to go re-take your driving lessons ?
People who stayed with Windows until now, even after years of abuse by Microsoft, have done so either because they got locked in good, or because they cannot fathom how to combine words "computer" and "security" in the same sentence.
Windows user can, in fact, combine the words "computer" and "security" in the same sentence. They just add "lack of" between the two.
So ? What is your point exactly
Most electronic these days have some software embedded in it. So you mean, I don't own my microwave ? or my DVD player ? My alarm clock ?
What about my HD TV ? Can Sharp dictate what I can watch on it, or prevent me from plugging my Atari 2600 on it ?
The model at it's essence is Sony sells the console cheap to you, you buy games where they take a cut so they can recover their expenses.
They enforce the model by copyright protection, and mind you Sony isn't the only one demanding copy protection, publishers want it very much as well.
If you don't like their enforcement, you are free to not buy the product. There are "free" alternatives like PC that come unemcumbled.
Where the hell are does rule written ?
Where I live, the rules are : once you buy a product, you are the owner and you can do whatever you like with it.
I can go buy a PS3 just to see what color the flames are when it burns. It's my damn money, I do whatever I want with it.
What about people who buy the console, but never buy any game, they just rent it ?
What if I buy the console and only ONE game, because that's the only game I wanna play ?
Yes, it does not gel with your specific concept of ownership, but it's a decent enough trade model.
Sony provides a service/product under certain conditions, you pay them.
Goods and services gets produced, producers get paid.
Hey, I have a car to sell you, it's cheaper than any other car on the market. BUT... you can only use my gas, which is two times the price of the market. And you can only use parts you buy from me, again at double the price of others. And if you don't follow those rules, I'll come to your house and seize it, and all your tools because you used them to break MY rules.
Horse hockey! Haven't you ever had to clean extra "value added" crap off a computer? I certainly have; that shit subsidizes PCs all the time. No PC manufacturer I am aware of operates without this stuff. If they did it'd be great to be able to compare their pricing with, say, Dell's.
Lenovo. My laptop came without any crap. No anti-virus trial, no yahoo toolbar, etc.
Next laptop will probably be another Lenovo.
Then they rather you not buy one. Their PS3 works via the razorblade model where they sink billions into R&D and sell the console at slightly below or at break even prices, recouping their cost via game sales.
Then we should all send $20 to GeoHot AND buy a PS3 and hack it, so Sony will loose money.
It's not our problem if Sony's business plan is broken
I don't know about where you live, but where I am, they can probably stop me from accessing PSN, but this
Violation of the System Software Licence Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System invalidates the consumer guarantee for that system.
I have just one thing to say to them : I didn't sign any contract BEFORE you sold me the product, so just let me get the Office de la Protection du Consommateur so they can explain it to you
Sony, breaking the law again and again
I found Ubuntu Linux to be very difficult to learn, mainly because every time you need to fix something (example: change to supervisor mode to install flash), it involves opening the CLI.
You must have tried Ubuntu a couple years ago. You should try it again with the latest version, since you can install pretty much anything, including flash, without ever dropping to the CLI.
I prefer to use the CLI myself, but that's just because I'm used to the good old-fashion way.
Not sure about Ubuntu, but this is the way to do it in Debian :
/etc/rc.local, add these lines just before "exit 0"
/home/username/.xsession .xsession - BEGIN
/path/to/script/that/start/yourapp .xsession - END
.xsession executable /home/username/.xsession
Disable gdm
# update-rc.d -f gdm remove
modify
** rc.local - BEGIN
su - username -c startx
reboot
** rc.local - END
add the file
**
#!/bin/sh
**
make the
# chmod u+x
as long as you don't mind violating the EULA
Where I live, that EULA doesn't have a leg to stand on, so why should I care ?
Yah, I can't say that I care much about start-up times
Me neither : uptime 07:55:31 up 1532 days, 18:50, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 :)
I must confess that I'm a little behind on kernel updates
Install Windows, problem solved.
If you think installing windows solves problems, you've got it all wrong
When Ubuntu goes to Unity exclusively and Win 8 is out, not sure what I'll do.
Just install KDE and your problem is solved
Is it just me, or is there nothing to the posted article?
What do you mean, we are supposed to read the article ?
Also, guessing they've at least made improvements in the antenna problem
What antenna problem ? There is no antenna problem, you're just holding it wrong !!! :p

Remind me again why anyone would invest their own time developing new iPhone apps?
Because iOS is by far the most successful mobile OS to develop for.
Wrong. Android is the most successful. Citation is here

Two wrongs never make a right, they only occasionally in algebra make a True, but never a right.
Maybe, but three left do
You can still buy it : http://www.busdrivergame.com/

You mean, you actually reboot ?
Clearly you have no idea how SELinux works. It's an enormous pain in the ass to setup correctly. Simply enabling it will do nothing at all.
Looks like you never tried it. It will make a lot of stuff stop working. Even serving a webpage will become complicated.

B.t.w. I see thousands of breakin attempts a day, they can keep trying, I sleep well
Harder solution: Install an operating system that they will actually have applications for.
Windows wins again.
Wrong. Please take a look here : http://packages.ubuntu.com/
