It's not a StrongARM, although I notice the author of the article had trouble with this as well.
'The english chip company ARM' as he so quaintly puts it probably supply most of the CPU's in your house: washing machine, mobile phone, toaster (this is slashdot after all!) etc.
Anyway, just though I'd put in a shout from over here in Cambridge England.

The problem with his line of reasoning is how complex the damn processors are nowadays. If you reckon you can beat commercial compilers optimization routines when dealing with a fifteen (or more) stage pipeline then good luck to you. I don't even want to start thinking about optimized register allocations what with MMX and all that jazz.
Hand coding small bits of hardware dependant routines is one thing but major applications with real-world functionality? Forget about it.
"Hi",
Just a lowly ex-AC being a "pedant", "but" putting "words" in quotes doesn't change their "meaning".
Sorry, it's been a "shit" "christmas".
Thanks for listening.

Insightful? How is it insightful to GUESS that it would be impossible to run x86 OS's on a PPC architecture?
Geez...
Havoc?
Is this the first use of the word 'beowulf' without following it with 'cluster' ever in Slashdot? Wow.

Broadcasting is outmoded in IPv6 so that is not an issue. Only unicast and multicast operations are available. Mashton
... and this is a review of a work of fiction! (And it isn't full of fnords, I checked.)
At least a passing mention of Douglas Adams would be nice ...
