You should charge by the hour. That way the longer a project takes the more you get paid! Maybe you could start using a command-line graphics program! Imagine typing something like "circle radius=30 x=123 y=45" and then not being able to see the results.:)
I don't like spam at all. I get about 5 - 10 spams per day. Seven years in jail would be too harsh.
I'd be interested to know what the law reguarding spam is. For example, is it legal to spam as long as you make it clear to the recipients how to remove themselves from the spammers list? I know most of the spam I keep getting does not, in fact if you try to remove yourself I just get even more spam. That should be illegal for sure.
Good taste in art is a matter of two things. Variety: Can you find the beauty in something as humble as country music? If so then I applaud you.
You've obviously never listened to Johnny Cash then! Very little new country does anything for me though. Actually, any country music that becomes popular isn't really "country" anymore it seems.
In general I can't stand country, rap, or techno. Every once in a while, however, I do find something in each that I do like.
The main problem I see with a wood case is the beige drives on the front. They look horrible and would really stand out on a wood case. Maybe have a wood door with a nice brass hinge to cover them up? Maybe I'll build one, I already built my computer desk, entertainment center thingy, and a table out of plywood and 2x4s/1x4s. It would fit in well.
I've been wanting to build a case out of an erector set, but where do I find them anymore? I looked on eToys, but the new ones are all meant to build specific things and probably only come with the parts needed. I just want beams and screws! eBay has a bunch of old ones, but they are for collector's mainly and cost more than I want to spend. Any ideas?
I can't stand those poser cars. Computer cases are different, however, because it's more like personalizing your case. It's not the same as putting stripes on a car to make it look like there's some actually performance mods when there isn't. You can personalize your car too, but it would probably look really stupid.
The rich are not evil. 80% of the million-aires are first-generation (forgot the source, sorry). That means they worked for the money themselves. And, if you inherited it, does that mean you're an ingrateful brat!?
I'm surprised so many people on Slashdot are arguing for Bush, I thought I was in the minority here. I am not atheist, I hate techno "music" with a passion (BTW, The Who is my fav group also, saw them 3 times this summer), and I'm a conservative. Now that I think about it, however, I can see why. People here tend to be for individual freedoms and less government control over everything.
People like Jon Katz would have you believe that corporations and anything that's "corporate" (whatever that means) is evil. That is simply not true. What is wrong with being tied to "big oil?" It means he has experience in dealing with our most important resource! Believe it or not, Microsoft is not the devil, they may suck, but they are not evil.
I am voting for Bush. Alan Keyes would have been my first choice, but Bush is what's left. I wouldn't even consider Algore unless he changed his position on abortion (again).
You obviously haven't hung out with too many philosophers.
Funny that you say that. I'm minoring in philosophy (CS major) and my roommate is majoring in philosophy.
Philosophers are interested in truth, not the whims of the majority. The best government is run by the best people, the philosophers. The problem is we don't know who the best people are.
So, we choose the second best government, a democracy. Where we all decide who we think is best to run the government.
There is no way I'd want to let these guys anywhere near government. And I think that goes for most academics. There's no substitute for real world experience.
I wouldn't want them to run the government nowadays either. I was half joking with my original comment.:)
BTW, Socrates wasn't interested in public affairs.
Politicians do things for election money or power when they're apathetic to an issue. If they really beleive something I would hope they don't sell out that easy. But, on issues where they don't care either way, vote they way that will help yourself. Maybe their should be an "I don't care" option in addition to yes or no.
Also, people think the government is broken, it's not. Thing are supposed to be slow and painful so we don't make quick and stupid decisions.
The don't hate each other. However, whenever there's a reunion, it's usually because Townshend wants money. Otherwise he seems very reluctant to play with Entwistle and Daltrey, even though they are always up for it. Probably because Townshend doesn't want to become another Rolling Stones group that plays way too much after their prime, it cheapens the whole thing.
If i would have known it would be posted on Slashdot I could have pointed you to an article 3 months ago. I keep up on all the Who stuff on Odds and Sods, The Who's Internet fan club.
CDs lost information from the master tapes. They record in 20 bits but CDs are 16. What you get is a sort of dithering. DVD and DAT both use 20 bit and sound better. Some CDs sound really bad because of this and others don't. In fact, listen to the Polydor (european) version of The Who's "Quadrophenia" and then the MCA (north american) version. Somehow they sound very different, yet they used the same master tapes.
Of course I'm no expert so correct any mistakes I've made...
What I wish is that the RIAA would get the point that MP3 is not an adequate substitute for CD-quality sound, and that they'd start making MP3's freely available as an enticement to buy the real CD. Being able to listen before I buy, especially to artists I'm not familiar with, is a real incentive to buy.
I agree. I think MP3's should be used for promotion. Bands could put their singles, the stuff you'd hear on radio or MTV, on the web. You get the music for free there anyway, so why not on the Internet too? If you really like the songs, buy the CD. If you only like the one song but think the group otherwise sucks, just keep the song for free instead of listening to some shitty commercial radio station.
Or, you can be like me and DJ a college radio station and get all kinds of free music from unheard of indie artists. It's some of the best stuff out there...
I can see paying for an upgrade, but paying the same amount you paid for the original? And for mostly bug fixes and a new version of IE? The new "features" are not worth that much. Oh well, I don't use Windows anyway.
Windows 98: Still the best damn $90 solitaire game money can buy.
Consider how many americans own Toyota Camrys (easily considered an appliance) versus how many own Ford Mustangs (a fast car with a powerful engine).
The Ford Mustang is probably not a good example. A lot of non car people own them just for the name. The people that bought the shitty 80's 4 cylinder ones come to mind. Most people that buy Mustangs now buy the V-6 version than the V-8. My 1983 Toyota Supra is faster than it even!

Check out Bryan's Rice-Boy Page to see some of those poser cars.

Duuuuuuude! I lived in Kistler last year!
Yeah, I'm over in Grand Rapids. The internet is everywhere over here. Did you know they have the internet on computers nowadays?!

That was awesome! I was at a show for the '97 tour. I also saw an Entwistle solo show last sumer, basically an hour and a half long bass solo.

I usually don't particularly like Jon Katz articles, but this one is great. Just thought I'd let everyone know. :)
Sounds more like a wannabe to me. He doesn't realize the the people he's trying to reach see through this.

The lesson: buy foreign cars.
Ok, I'm done ranting now.
I still have a BetaMax. If only I could find that Ghostbusters video...
