I was just thinking, I wonder if there'll be bootlegged copies of those images going around, gore gallery style.. if every murder (with those guns) is captured.
but then again, who'd kill someone with one of these??
Maybe I'm slow, but I havn't found a way to do batch file transfers with HTTP. There's just no way to do it without clicking on every single damn link, selecting "save as", and then downloading. Sure you can generally get several going at once, it's still not the same as selecting several folders and doing a batch transfer in my FTP client. Or is are there apps or methods of doing this for HTTP?
if you're using linux, you can use wget. and if you're on windows, you can get cygwin and then also use wget.. there's gotta be other utilities with the same features, but wget is definitely the classic and does pretty much everything you'd need.
another secret I've found out recently is to only put the cartridge in barely enough that you can push it down.. somehow that works incredibly to get the most broken game to work instantly. I'm always amazed.
IP addresses aren't drying up. Thanks to CIDR we're making far more efficient use of the 32 bit space of IP4 and the notion that we're running out is simply false.
still, they're not infinitely available like they will be with IPv6, so development is hindered within IPv4. This, in a sense, implies that we'd quickly run out of IP addresses if we used them for everything we want to.
The reason ColdFusion can be ported easily now is because CFMX was rewritten in Java. now all Macromedia has to do is port their JRun server and voila, ColdFusion is ready to work. Keep in mind that you don't need to run JRun specifically to use ColdFusion; any java web server will work.
that's actually right, and that's indeed the point. if i'm not mistaken, in canada you're legally allowed to make copies for your own purposes or to lend to a friend, and they make up for it with these costs added to blank media.

my housemates tried to make 2 different batches of beer a few years ago, but both times it just didn't turn out good whatsoever. it was theoretically drinkable, or, as our friend put it, 'fit for the funnel'. terrible stuff.
depending on the laws in your area, there might be places where you can pay someone to brew the beer for you, so you still get it cheap, but without the work.

well morpheus isn't really a website promoting anything, but more like a search engine. google links to shopping sites even though you can access porn links with it, and i guarantee they don't consider google an innapropriate website.
nonetheless, i think you're right that amazon would never be okay with this. i think, though, that their usage policy probably would have overlooked such an abuse, purely because it's actually quite inventive. I think it's the most clever idea since the AllAdvantage cheating programs. Don't you wish you could get ahold of this program, set it up for your amazon reseller account, and install it on the computers of your friends and family? i mean, it's not like it makes a real difference to anyone, except that their friends make a couple of easy dollars.
Which, of course, is why when most people say "linux", they *don't* mean "linux kernel and GNU tools," but also perl, sendmail, X, and a gaggle of others . ..
RMS needs to realise that people just say "Linux" because its the closest replacement to "Unix". but people always refer to "Unix" to mean a whole collection of tools and libraries, the same as GNU/Linux. so it's an understandable (mis)use of language.
from what i understand, Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys used to read something similar (basically the cost breakdown) at the start of every concert..
For funzees, watch someone trying to use Word when they actually care what the stuff looks like.
you mean spending 10 minutes hitting every permutation of backspace, space and enter, trying to trick word's auto-make-things-look-right into doing what they actually want?
You're restricting my freedom to create closed source applications and make money with it.
actually, i'd interpret as saying, you can use my work as long as i can use yours. you can still make money off GPL'd code, you just have to distribute the source code. i'm sure you can imagine a situation where people would buy software which is also available free (ie, RedHat), especially if it came with a level of support or some other service.
this brings up another question.. it's so commonly mentioned how these great random freelancing web journalists are changing the media by bringing unbiased news, and that sort of thing. we all know about the usual indy medias, but what other independant journalists have really proved themselves to be something insightful and accurate?

i spent most of yesterday reading this site. this site could be dismissed as just conspiracy theory, but the points raised are backed with evidence, and quite alarming.
personally, i've used a headset phone for quite a few years now, and i don't feel the need to switch ears. it's pretty comfortable. i also think i'd prefer keeping one ear open, to listen for the door or that sort of thing.
then again, 2 ears would help if you were somewhere a bit noisy.
maybe the important thing to say is "I don't have Word, can you send me the file in plain text or something?". it's not really an operating system issue, despite the fact that there is no Office for Linux. if a person had windows, but didn't have Word, they'd probably ask for the same thing anyway.
Free software isn't about getting something for free; it's about the freedom to modify programs to do what you want them to do, not what some arbitrary programmer in a distant company wants you to do. It's about freedom -- not about saving money (although that does appear to be a fringe benefit).
everybody's trying their hardest to fit free software into various old and new business models. then, when it seems impossible, they complain that such a business couldn't possibly be profitable. i think what most people are missing out on is that, for the first time in a while, we're able to enrich our own lives by contributing a bit of time, effort or resources (ie, bandwidth) here and there. there's so many of us that it doesn't take much to make a difference. in exchange, we get great, free software. i don't know why people need to fit dollar signs into everything.
And maybe some losers are still back in the stone ages with Windows 3.11, did that even HAVE office back then?
i believe it was called "microsoft works", and ran on dos. it wouldn't take much research to find out how far back that goes, but i don't really care that much. =)

what program should I use if I want all the functionality of WMP without actually using it?

if you have enough RAM, it won't even use the swap. so if it is using the swap, and you take away the swap, you'll likely just run out of memory.

nobody's in a recession. it seemed like the US might have been, but the GDP was +0.2% for the 4th quarter, so its technically not a recession.

er, i wasn't actually saying the US was currently a police state, i was just using that as a subject..
what i found interesting on that site was a comparison between current US events, and events in Germany right before WWII. it's eerily similar.

how are they going to explain that los angelas didn't, in fact, get nuked in 1996? or will they just play along with the original plot?
