I have used some wireless mice in the past, and they always seem to have a slight delay between the time I move the mouse and the pointer on the screen actually moves. A 20X improvement in accuracy won't solve this problem, though, so will the difference really be noticeable? You will still be moving the mouse to a place where you expect the pointer to land a few moments later, then you will still probably have to correct the movement after the pointer catches up. I dunno...I'm not convinced. I guess I'll have to wait until a friend buys one and try it.
Apparently the athletes are improved, too. In track events, a start time within 0.1 seconds of the gun going off is considered a false start. Apparently 0.1 seconds is the fastest reaction time that humans are capable of. Some athletes, though, are now able to react in under 0.1 seconds, and as a result, they are being charged with false starts.
Considering the recent IPO that raised a couple Billion dollars, google will need to do something with all the money (besides devoting fridays to "millionaire picnics")
I seem to recall a certain company by the name of Best Buy mentioned here a week or two ago. The company, it turns out, is firing some of its worst customers who represent a hole in their profit model. As I recall, many/.ers were not too thrilled by this, and I for one do not care to shop at a place where I, the customer who brings in money, is not treated well. To be successful, you have to keep your customers happy so they will keep coming back for more. If you are focused on pure business, it will backfire sooner or later.
Look at Walmart for example. They make a profit by treating their employees like crap. This is not a business model that I agree with, and so they have lost me as a customer (ok, i only shopped there because i was given a gift card).
In response to the quote from the article: Knauss said at one of the first meetings with PortalPlayer, Fadell said, "This is the project that's going to remold Apple and 10 years from now, it's going to be a music business, not a computer business."
I hope that for a guy (Knauss) who was so right about the iPod that he is wrong-as-can-be about the future of Apple. We want to listen to our iPods and play on our iMac G5's too!
With the kind of coverage Apple has been getting lately not only on Slashdot, but also on news.google for example, you would expect Apple to have greater than 2 or 3 percent market share.
trying to convert the average user to linux will only mean more work for yourself. They'll be all excited about the new system and go out and buy an iPod w/ iTunes. Within a few days of setting them up, just wait, the phone will ring..."but it says it works on PC and Mac!"...you will spend hours on the phone before, finally, you just give up and reinstall windows.
the problem is, that for your actual "average user", they will say, "where is my MS Office" and "where is my internet explorer" and I need my Norton Anti-Virus. Linux is great, but it's not for the average user yet. An acquainance of mine can't get over the fact that his win xp box doesn't have a floppy disk drive. What would he do if I took his start menu away?
Shares of Apple Stock were down over $2.00 each in trading Friday morning---further sign that it IS a fuck-up on Apple's part. The street was expecting iMacs sooner.

At least the messages are limited to 110 characters on my old Nokia / attwireless setup.
maybe because Apple is the underdog

Of course students and educators can get the iPod mini for $229.
