When I was 9 years old (1982), my dad worked at a Sears store as a product demonstrator. Right across from his department was electronics. They had a TI-99/4A, Commodore VIC-20, Timex-Sinclair (with that nasty bubble keyboard), etc. The VIC-20 usually had my attention. One day, a shopper showed me how to make my name fill the screen, using everyone's first program:
10 PRINT "DAN" 20 GOTO 10
And I was hooked. A year or so later, I owned my own VIC-20, later replaced by a Commodore 128 (I skipped the 64 altogether). I didn't get my first "real" computer (a 386) until I was in university studying computer science.
I owe much of my early computing learning to RUN and Compute!'s Gazette magazines.
Is typing a "necessary skill"? Will it get you a boost in salary? Is it worth putting on a resume? Probably not. But I sure am glad I can type.
I took typing class in high school ("secondary school" in most countries) in 1990. I consider it one of my most valuable classes in high school. Very few people around me can touch type. In fact, many of my coworkers poke fun at me for my typing speed. But when someone is breathing down my neck to get a project done, I'm very glad I don't get slowed down by having to hunt and peck.
I also think it is important to actually use full sentences, with proper punctuation, even in "informal" communications like IMs and e-mails (even Slashdot posts). Being able to touch type makes this so much easier.
Yep, that's what I do. I get the books on CD, then rip them as OGGs and load them on my Palm. Doesn't cost me a penny, and my library has a good selection.
In Oklahoma, my PikePass transponder now beeps when it is read. This provides me with at least a little assurance that my transponder isn't being read surreptitiously. Of course, I'm sure the Oklahoma Transportation Authority could program their own equipment so that some of the "secret" (not toll related) receivers wouldn't make the transponders beep.
Our proxy blocks gator.com, but not (yet) claria.com. All the images on claria.com are hosted on images.gator.com, so the home page shows up as just a bunch of broken images, a few of which have ALT tags. Funny.
RT3 has changed this slightly. "Killed" has become "deleted." There is an additional status, "rejected." From my experience, you can search for rejected tickets, but not deleted ones. The only way to get to a deleted one is by going straight to the ticket by number.
My home town newspaper's web site now only allows access to print subscribers. They charge $45 a year for non-subscribers. They don't even allow access to current stories. And "archive" stories (those older than about 2 days) are limited even for paid subscribers.
We wish to announce that due to the following factors, we shall cease the operation of film88.com:-
1. There has been many technical complaints during our trial run. We are satisfied with some technical results but feel that we have a duty to find ways to resolve technical complaints before providing such service. We shall be publishing our technical results soon and open for public discussion for the benefit of everyone on our website.
2. We have made clear many times that we are not pirates. We have proposed to major studios in Hollywood to pay 30% of our movie rental price as copyright compensation. This represents a huge percentage from our gross profit but we feel that a balance between innovation and copyright compensation is important. However, Hollywood has reacted negatively. We have to evaluate this issue. Perhaps we should look for movies outside Hollywood but we hope that Hollywood will some day offer such service. Perhaps we should wait for the development of "Statutory Licence" for the movie industry similar to the Statutory Licence for the music industry in US.
3. Some journalists have given us fair comments while others drag us into politics. We have stated clearly that we are not involved in politics (Iran or elsewhere). What happen to the fundamental concept of Internet of being borderless and not knowing any nationality and race? We are actually more keen in technical comments/reviews and to resolve the copyright issue. We have no plans at the moment but the innovation must go on..... We wish to apologize to all users, Geeks, our service providers and Hollywood, and hope that they will accept our apology for inconvenience caused, if any.
How can you call this post "Redundant" when it is the only post asking this question? I stand by my original post. There are no official photos of Sealand. We would like to see some.
I can attest to this. I write (DOS/Win) tax software for a living, and the company I work for is now charging several hundred dollars extra for our DOS software. This is an attempt to wean our users (CPAs) away from DOS. Many of our users are using very old hardware.
I registered a domain name at joker.com today, but their website does not seem to have a way to change your registration (i.e. contact and DNS info). An e-mail to info@joker.com has not yet been returned. Does anyone have any idea how to change this info? Don't say go to www.netsol.com because joker.com uses corenic.org, not internic.net.

The only photos of Sealand are on an unofficial page. Is there any chance of getting some "official" photos, including living quarters?
