But please stop trying to imply real-world usability where there is none. It is unethical and unprofessional.
But it keeps the grant money coming.
What they've created is a method for representing card games symbolically (probably the hardest part of the project). Then they searched through many permutations of games, and keeping the ones that pass an acceptance criteria. It's AI the same way Prolog is AI.
Or depth first search. Is depth first search AI? Does an A* search make a machine intelligence? We need a new tag, SearchIsNotAI or something.
Search is an integral part of AI. Always has been. One famous AI scientist once said that all AI is just search and knowledge representation. It is also the case that once we find an AI algorithm that works sucessfully it seems to no longer be considered AI.
The algorithm here is a small incremental improvement, thats how breakthroughs work - bit by bit. The scientists may not have claimed it as a hugh breakthrough, I would guess the journalists did that if anyone did.
(of course, the whole notion of a people having to justify their right to be in a land they inhabited continuously for over 3000 years is pretty immoral, but we won't worry about that here).
Google could easily offer you GPG for its webmail, while still passing all your information on to the government, including the plaintext of your 'encrypted' emails. Seriously, do you even know how public-key encryption works?
You're an idiot, as your ranting about conspiracies would indicate.
Of course, in that case they would have to actively give the key to the government but if it is in plaintext then the gov. can automatically and "silently" just read all the emails on the wire, so to speak. Easier for government and google can pretend they do not know about it (which officially they wouldn't)
I just want to agree with the posters here. The news these days is so ludicrous that it is becoming hard to tell what is real anymore. I suspect we may be running as a simulation written by a postgrad of some advanced civilization. At this moment he is drunk and playing with the simulation wondering how long it takes us to realize what is going on;-)
MIT has a duty of care for its students. Unlike most other colleges MIT is large enough that it can withstand pressure from external agencies who do not have the students interests at heart. Hopefully they will learn from this and make the results public.
This is old news. The point about organic is that:
1. It is better for the soil (no citation to hand) 2. Less pesticide seepage in groundwater (you may know it better as drinking water) 3. They are supposed to enforce better standards of care for their animals (supposed to, there is the problem with restricting use of antibiotics)
That is why you should buy it.
On the other hand home grown stuff (veg and animals) is much better (tastier etc) than shop bought so grow or raise your own where possible. Personally I get it because: 1. It is local (money spent locally stays in the community and there is less travel so it is likely to be fresher and cause less pollution from transport) 2. Better for soil/environment 3.If you buy at the local market you actually meet the producers
'Course others may buy it for different reasons J.
Linux (mint?) on a cheap PC. Easy to use but if he gets into computing he can do everything on it (it is all open and on *nix it's text files all the way down).
As I understand it, Sweden has interviewed a murder suspect in Serbia (or so it said on the BBC) so if they can do it for a murder suspect then why not in this case.
This already happens. What do you think happens to your search history? (and your facebook history, etc.) Profiling of people based on their search history/browsing history/social network is used to identify terrorists. Of course you are not (yet) arrested as a result but you are watched very carefully and put on "lists".
Just because no-one has used this information against you does not mean it does not exist. or am I wrong?
You are a bit confused. The school actually does teach CIS/MIS courses as well as the traditional CS courses. Part of these courses is network administration which involves learning to administer a network(!). More often than not these are NT but we teach Unix as well. Any school that tries to teach network administration without giving practical experience with NT and M$ tools or *nix is not really worth a hill of beans!
There is more to life than just CS courses. Not everyone is destined to write system software some people will become network administrators (among other things)
p.s. C/C++ has as much to do with "fundamental" CS as VB has. So how is teaching unix-specific stuff more fundamantal than M$-specific stuff? Fundamental programming would use a functional language (Lisp,Scheme,Caml,ML, etc.)
A boat that fast will ensure that atlantic whales become extinct in decades!
as it is boats at 40 knots kill a lot of whales and are prob. responsible for the declining numbers of whales.
Also the noise may be whats responsible for whale strandings (the noise stuns them)

WW1 really destroyed the aristocracy in Britian. An entire generation of the landed class died and many houses lost *ALL* their heirs as a result.
But the Ind. revolution helped. In the end they were destroyed by their inability to see the effects of the INd. rev. on War.
Perhaps that will happen again.

Aww bless,
Eric is willing to consider paying taxes like the rest of us. The man is a saint.
kinda like the world series baseball, eh? ;-)
