Neocons are a subset of the neoliberals. Neoliberalism is an old idea. Neocons basically represent the faction of the GOP (and some Dems) that want to rule the Mideast with an iron hand. You might say that necons basically represent the religious or hardcore neoliberals in the USA who are strongly in favor of using the military.

Neoliberalism is the core of American politics. And neoliberalism has been a long tradition in the USA. The USA Constitution is neoliberal.

Both Democratic and GOP parties are staunchly neoliberal, but the GOP is more so.

The nations that are farthest away from neoliberalism are the quasisocialist countries (there are only one or maybe 2 truly socialist countries). Norway is pretty far away from neoliberalism. England is closer to true neoliberalism than France or the Netherlands. A strong welfare state is anathema to neoliberals.

Neoliberalism is centered around looking out for the rights of property and wealth.

Neoliberalism has nothing to do with American liberals, such as Rep. Dennis Kucinich, Cynthia McKinney, et al.
Kerry, BTW, is NOT a liberal. He is a neoliberal.

  3. Absentee Business Owners Always Get Ripped Off on FBI Investigates Open Records Request · · Score: 1

That is what we get for not minding the store, and letting our hired men (the president, the congress, governors, legislators, FBI hierarchy, CIA, etc) have the run of the place, and just do whatever they please. THat is what we get for making them the top of the social hierarchy heap, instead of letting them know that they are just hired help. THey have turned themselves into Kings and The King's Men, and now we are the vassals/serfs.

If you really think we citizens are the owners of America, then we need to vote into office reprsentatives who will take action to let future officeholders know that the citizen is boss. We can do that by indicting, and trying, and then punishing severely the past officeholders and organizational leader for transgressions against citizens, such as this one here, with the tunnels.

Our hired men have clearly stepped over the line with this one. I say we try Bush, Clinton, and the leadership of the FBI for treason on this one. Do it in a court of law. And then punish them appropriately for treason, which in the past has often been death by hanging, firing squad.

You have to let the hired men know who is boss, or otherwise we become their chattel. And you have to do it publicly so as to bring shame down upon the names of those who transgressed.

If a business is jointly owned by multiple owners, who never come in to mind the business, do you think it likely that the hired men will start ripping off the owners? I do, and that is what is happening here. We need to start acting like we own this country, otherwise we will lose it.

  11. Information Theoretic Death on What Happens To Your Data When You Die? · · Score: 4, Interesting

    You are your brain.

    Your brain is information.

The degree of information retrieval from a frozen brain is dependent upon the sophistication of the information retrieval technology. Same as retrieving information from a shattered hard drive. It can be done, but you need some good equipment.

Cryonics DOES preserve information, but is it enough for revival?

Well, how much information is preserved depends not so much on the cryopreserative technology used today, but instead on how sophisticated is the information retrieval technology of the future.

But "the future" when it comes to reviving a frozen cryo, is NOT set. If the information retrieval technology at year N is not sufficient to revive, then wait K years.

So, I hope you see that the odds are quite possibly good that there will exist some year N + m*K years from today in which the information retrieval technology is sufficiently sophisticated.

So, in retrospect, destroying information LONGTERM is actually difficult.

For more information on Information Theoretic Death, see Ralph Merkle here and here and here.

That is the REALLY important data--like how it felt to get your first kiss, to drive your first car, to re-read your favorite book, etc etc.

What about maintaining THAT data after you die?

It may be feasible! Check out cryonics, the experimental science of cryopreservation, where as soon as possible after legal death, your brain is perfused with a cryopreservative (to minimize ice crystal formation), and then placed in liquid nitrogen, where all chemical reactions essentially cease.

Hundreds or even thousands of years from now, sophisticated neuroarchaeological techniques may be used to restore that data. And when that data is restored, you will be alive again. Nice work if you can get it, huh? And if revived in a society that is capable of such science, well, you are talking "virtual immortality", my friends.
