marx" and capitalism are used so much, but only to trigger response.
It is sad that many people like you due to Cold War propaganda and misinformation somehow equate Marxism and Communism with evil.
I never said communism is evil.
But by quoting " linux is communism" you seem to think i say "linux is the evil". I never said that! you are so precondiotion that people say "communism = evil" you did read my "communist linux" as a cold war statement.
I can tell you:
-I am not a american.
-I was born after people stepped on the moon. i never heard about this mcartynism.
goods and services are not infinite....... This is not the case with software or any other sort of intellectual property
If software does not fall within this economic base principle, why use economic theories for this?
By the way, gratis software is only gratis if you do not value your time.
-- bye bye karma(opinions are not liked by moderators)
-It is saying nothing.
-and then other points are told back to free and open software.
I do not say open software is good or bad, I mean that saying open software is socialist software is a troll. I did use the word communistic as the opposite of capitalistic.
I know the sovjet communistic system is not what marx had in mind when he wrote das kapital, but with communistic is defined first by the people in his time. If i say communistic = soicialistic i do not mean sovjet (or china) communistic= soicialistic. So you could call linux an communistic OS by this definition.
Ok, I did not read DAS KAPITAL.
All i meant to say that this article has included a lot of troll stuff by dragging in a lot of " capatalism is..."
I am yet to see a user-created patch for Windows 3.1... The shareware (ok not free) trumpet winsock comes quite close. But try to find reasonable support for linux 1.0.... (yes it is there, but not better than support for windows 31.)
-- this i going to dent my karma....but no ac this time, and it is my opinion
Having read your link I see a new use for rader: blowing up cd's.
I did the CD in a micro wave also some time to show the lightning effect (Some people tell to put a glass of water in the Microwave not to destroy it). I guess they can use radar also to get the CD effect.
No need to tell here the use for this:
-AOL/Compuserve thingies. (where do they store these things?)
-copy protection......
And once you get under that crusty old ATI veneer of lousy drivers
The features and performance are up to the nvidea card. But do you know about the stabilty of the card (drivers). If people say: The card is good, but the driver needs some work, i'll trust it will get better, _I_ do not want to buy (or advise) it.
It is like the kyro2. It promises good thing, but if you look at the test some test are omitted because the program would not run with that card. What if you bought that game that did not work. (Or worse what if it does not run diabloII?8-)
The fact that it did run all the test in this review is good. However the one statement about lousy drivers makes me shiver.
my advise: don't buy a card that promises it will get good drivers, buy a card that already has good drivers.
i.e. In other test the 8500 did not perform Antialiasing under some resolutions.
and your point:
Did microsoft do it ok after 3 tries? (really)
That light stuff is called "CE". However bloat and all the latest stuff seem to belong together. A lot of software doesn't run under CE.
If you want a lite version of win98 try win 98 lite to remove the internet exploder.
But there are always light versions. If you want simple word processing you can choose wordpad. If you want simple browsing you can use opera (5.12, 6.0 is beta quality) or ie. 3.0 (or netscape 2.0). However if you want all the latest you will find that you need all kinds of updates of the OS. Lots of cpu and ram help, however you do not need them (yet) for you wordprocessing.
Note that i am writing this on a windows 95(b) company machine, that still does telnet fine, and will telnet fine the next year. (I could get NT4, but they block the registry there, I like to edit the registry for oracle)
I was not aware of the starbuck network. google turned up this. It states you have to logon (and pay ) to use their network. I suppose the car is also good for them if you have to pay anyway.
By the way: I was disappointed when i went on vacation to california this summer about public internet access. I found:
-public libraries: 3 out of 4 times there was a waiting list. (reserved days ahead)
-something at a gas station in palm springs.
1 (1) internet cafee at the las vegas strip.
A friend went to peru and in almost every small village they had public (not free) access.
It always makes good media to (re)post about broken wireless networks that could be accessed from anywhere. Lots of dead tree magazines are writing about this.
On a floppy, that is not big by today's standards. But is way bigger than lots of things in embedded systems. Does you know a lot of embedded systems use Z80 like (in terms of processing capacity) processors? That is why linux is not used that much in embedded systems. It is quite big in relation to most embedded systems.
by the way, if you metion floppy systems you should that a look at the QNX demo disk
The quality at THG has dropped amazingly low in the past 6 months.
I agree. See for this example of the latest article at thg (soon on/.? ) about win4lin. Normally they test all kind of games for performance. Not this time. And no comparison of wine and vmware: incomplete. so there is now way to compare it t the competition.
An other example of the incompleteness of the article about game computer is missing that doom was just released on the gameboy advance. That is how the state of those small gaming devices is right now!
The quality of the file transfer - which is crucial to how the music sounds - is guaranteed to be high, which is not so on free sites. And the labels' services also offer protection from viruses.
Ok, i know p2p has it's problems with speed, especially if the RIAA does a DOS attack. But virus on music (mp3/wma/realone) files: is this even possible?
And the quality of the transfer: this is only important for streaming audio, and it is always less then non-streaming (on my 56K6 modem).
This uServ thing solves none of the privacy problems freenet has "solved".
-If Employee A serves porn, it will also find its way to (the pc of) employee B. B has no control about this.
-Also employee B can modify the data of Employee A... oops.
-It is based on the willingness of employee B to mirror A.
-If the site of A is very popular, it must be mirror'ed much more time, but no mechanism is described for this.
Freenet has solved most of these problems by encrypting and signing the data in freenet. It distributes the data as it is requested. And i wonder if the system is acceptable if it gets more popular. Suppose you run a freenet node because you want to exchange mp3 files. You computer gets to contain: ??? (you have no control about this)
Freenet does not work (yet) as far i can see. If someone can tell me how to set up standalone node to start with. 0.4 should be able to do this, but this is very much beta now.
Both freenet and userv have not solved the problem how to find information.

Rechter: KaZaA over twee weken dicht
judge:Kaza must close in 2 weeks
This is the remarkable outcome of a "kort geding" (court where outcome is in a short time) between kazaA and music right organisation "Buma/Stemra". If kazaa does not comply they must pay 100.00 guildens (~45.000 euro) a day with a max of 2 Million guildens. This outcome can end the Kazaa, that is one of the biggest music exchane services since the departure of napster.
The judge also dertermined that BUMA/stemra must meet with Kazaa to negotiate a contract where Kaaza can legaly offer misc via the internet. Accoridng to kazaa there was already a oral agreement with the buma/stemra the they canceled the engotioations.
Loyer Christiaan Alberdingk Thijm sees the judgement as a vicotry , in spite of the closing threat. "it is fantastic that they have to negotioate with us again. That means we still have enough time to make an agreement."
...
about the passage in the verdict about the "auteursrecht" [copy right? ] he is less to speak. "in the verdict is that kazaa breachtes the copyright. This is nonsense. The users are responsible for this. With the same argument one could close the suppliers of video recorders"
. . . appeal. . .
according to Alberdingk Thijm the verdict only has consequense for the software. This means that the network where also morpheur and grokster make use of stay 'open'. Poeple who already have installed kazaa soule be able to continue with using the network.
.

Buma/stemra did not react. "we do that when we studied the verdict"
unless you are running version 2.4.15 greased-turkey this self destruct will be solved when the backup-backup power comes back (at the cost of life support...).
HTTP can't really offer all that FTP does in terms of file transport.
HTTP really is all that.
You are correct. However since a few years ago a lot of CLIENTS had bug with http (i.e. 3.0). Also some servers had problems with range -. That makes it all a lot more complex with all the worarround you have to support.
And i wonder if all this extra http extensions leave lots of securty problems we do not begin to touch. Why are there still bugs found in the "simple" ftp protocol (implementations)?
IF you already run a http on a server and you only want to provide downloads, there is really no need for an ftp server.....if you are sure they do not heave buged clients.
But if you want uploads and set it up quickly ftp might be there for you. It is $#$%#%# if you want to transfer a file to a *nix box you heave a telnet accounr to and tyou have to use... xmodem (or zmodem, "rz / sz")
They took a "powerfull" desktop and made it the new server. When i look at the sun site you can see this is a desktop that is not very upgradable, they already took it to almost the top.
Memory: Max 2Gb, 2Gb used. (4x increase old memory) may sound a lot but "we will never need more than 640Kb" and already 50% is used and "not growing."
Processor: 500 Mhz now 25% used. But no more extra processors are possible. (I know 1 sun Mhz != 1 athlon Mhz, but 25% load is far fro near idle)
They can work arround this limitations by placing an extra server and placing some functions on the other server, but they started with that in their case an extra server would be an extra point of failure.
In other words, if they keep developing their site we will see such an article agian in one or 2 year. gues this one will be about load balancin g on cheap (sun or x86) hardware.
I am a little bit suprised they didn't use x86 hardware since that is waht they review all the time. They looked futher than what you would expect.
``Our ultimate goal is to replace the auxiliary power unit,'' said Dave Daggett, associate technical fellow in the environmental performance strategy group. ``But first, we're going to learn more about fuel cells by powering a small airplane
I think it is a strange route they take. To have it for the power unit (i suppose the electrical generator) they first power a plane with it.
I have seen this done. If you use a lot of bandwitdh they put a lower cap on your modem. In the end the bandwidtd get so low you can only use a very limited amount per month from them.
It is all covered in the fair use/do not disrupt our network clause they have. and since they are a big company you can not do very much. The real problem is that they do not have bought enough internet bandtwidth, or the internal routers are configured very bad.
If you call 10% marginal, you are right. Looks like now that board with the same chipset perform within a few percent from each other. I do not think you will notice the difference. But then i am still using my pII 350 at home since it fast enough for diabloII & internet. (You can hit me with you club/truncheon now).
If you have determined the the last few % of performance are not important for you, you should focus on features. If you do not play games the integrated Geforce2MX on the nvidia might be fine. And a integrated ethernet may save you a few dollar you can spend on a better display. I am suprisid they integrated a realtech ethernet in one of the nvidea board.
And this one is an even number, they are supposed to be stable.
2.2.x --> stable
2.3.x-> development
2.4.odd --> seems to heve unexpected bugs.
2.4.even --> might be stable. who knows?
2.5.0 --> unstable! it had to be. now everyone who said that 2.5.0 would be the last 2.odd stable one will be proven wrong.
Didn't this have to to do with the odd and even numbers of the start trek movies 8-). Or don't you think this is funny after downloading 2.15 just a few hours ago and syncing/fscking like hell now?
Unfortunately the project was cancelled before it was finished, but here's what we had to do:...

In my opinion it proves the point "Person A" was behind this device at that time. If fixes the gap between the PC and person. I do understand it does not yet prove that person did read the document he signed. (And the pc can be hacked, and a standard pc is much more hackable than your solution)
