    Well in the moderation system some things are to be improved:
    -Seperate setting for doing moderations. I'd like my treshold lower when moderating to scan for AC gems. (or to search for trolls that are not trolls, but are meant funny)
    -Some (don't know how) system to mod up late good posters. The problem with the current system is early on topic posters get modded up, but a 4 hour late gem has a very slim change to be modded up.
    -Some filters for capitals in subject "RIGHT NOW" 8-)

    Why do we need 64bit processors? Addressing? Nah, current processors can address enough space.. with 386 processors FAR addressing was introduced, which expanded allocatable address space drastically.

    Far adressing can handle 4GB. but 4GB is not much by today standards(it is not little either). You want flat adress space, and ram is cheap this days. 32 bits get you to 4GB, if you want more you have to resort to tricks. (those silly DS.DD etc)

    With the first 64 bit alpha's they used this as an argument: it is useful for fast memory scans when using big databases.

    --640 Kb will be enough....

    x86, so if x86 is where 95+% of the market is, it may make sense to not even make the TM CPUs 6% more complex... let alone the morphing software 100% more complex.

    Going for the biggest market share is not always the point. It is like saying 90% of word for windows is not used, let's cut 90% of word for windows, making it 100% faster etc etc. However not the same 10% is used by everyone.

    Same would go for a powerpcemulater. Wouldn't it be great if you could run mac software at the flick of a switch? I agree, for the performance some more silicon may have to beadded. But if you don't optimize very much at the start you wouldn't need that much extra.

    X-windows does not only run on linux. It did run on all kind of unix before linux. Hey it is even ported to MS-windows.

    Calling it l-windows would confuse people it would only run on linux.

    I could as well read an article about a g200. The firingsquad article is old news. you could as wel linked to the original article at hardocp. And also the firingsquad later had an interview with ATI about this.

    The new drivers have NOW solved the "quack 3 issue".

    And did you read my link to tom's? I did pull the fsaa out of context, but it was one thing the ATI card was better at that a geforce card. it does have plus points.

    That flaimbait, i'll bite:

    If you read the article you would have seen a reference to this article at THG:

    it resolves the Quake 3 "issue;"

    also

    offers SmoothVision FSAA; and, enables 16tap anisotropic filtering. On top of that, it improves performance.

    in the conclusion it states:

    Nvidia also has some work to do in regard to FSAA

    You forget to mention 64-bit color as one of the final features. (no i am not making this up)

    But I think video card stop evolving when they reach realtime reallife quality.

    It is however the case that a lot of games (I don't know about medal of honour) don't use all the latest features, to reach a larger customer base.

    Ok, try it like this:
    the DMI software will automatically send an alert to management software

    Copy data to local HD. (It is there. or can XP/windows 2000 boot remote and still perform)
    Unplug network.
    copy data to little unauthorized device.
    Unplug device.
    Power down pc.
    Leave office.

    Do this before the weekend and even in a secure environment you have quite some time.

    99,5 % of year 2000 work is rode review. Only a tiny little bit is patching. They would find the backdoors first and then not patch it. THis would be just as effective.

    by the way, making short year 2000 to y2k is what caused the problem in the first place.....

    They can be compared, but you are comparing a language to an Operating system. You can run java app x on os y (or W) but when its about installation you still need some OS specific code.

    would be *very* surprised if the data from the heating cycle didn't give them a good clue as to the exact contaminant by looking at the amount removed by a known heat input (latent heat of vapourisation)

    I would be *very* suprised if they had enough variables for that:
    -They don't know what part of the camera is contarminted. (ccd, ot what lense)
    -They don't seem to measure the "haze", it seems hard to detect, and they are much more intersted in calculting it away.

    And, if something is leaking, there is very little they can do since there is no service point/ R2d2 robot. They will have to rely on backup devices.

    There is a problem with anology's : the comparasion does not work in the end.

    If you compare it with antivirus software: you can still get repairs on you old Civic. (is this the same as paid software updates?)

    If you want to replace it you will get a different car, but it has still the same user interface. There may be some new bells and whissles, but there is a very small learning time.

    But then the anology goes wrong. You can still make perfect copies of your old software. Technically you can take your 1 software package and install it to 100's of PC on your site. Or rolout word'98 to the next 100 you buy. If they make it impossible to buy licences (pay them..) the technical possible becomes illigal. How would you compare that to your 12 year old civic? And a virus signature update is not exactly the same as repair, maybe it should be compared with a oil change.

    And we are talking 1-2 year in software, not 12 year....

    u're setting yourself up for a huge lawsuit

    Do you american have to do everything with a lawsuit. First thing that happens if you do not like you neighbours is

    A They ask you to remove the backup. (or more techinacllay they start to send an empty backup for a week, and than a BIG BIG file fileld with random)
    B they cut the line. (or put 220 V on it.)

    If you turn up with a gun (it is texas?) then you go to court else one of the neighbours moves.

    They are a leftover from windows 3.0.

    The windows socket interface was invented during windows 3.x
    It was add-on therefor it was not integrated with the BSD-file like sockets.

    This was done because a blocking process (waiting for connection) was not acceptable for a non multithreated environment in windows 3.x

    Windows sockets seems
    to support other transport protocols.


    BSD sockets also seem to support other transport mechanism.....at first.

    So for the logic you might be right, but in practice there is more to it.
