I agree with you, there are a lot of people in America who can not afford health care, and thus do not make use of the system. However, the problem with healthcare cost is directly perportonal to our governments involvment. Our social forms of insurance (medicaid and medicare) are right at the top of the list for reasons that our health care is not affordable. The Government set the "cost" of a procedure at a level were almost no profit can be made, and then only pay on average half of that "cost". The net result is that health care providers have to charge everyone else extreme prices just to stay in business. To sum it up our governments current involvment in our health care system IS the problem, and increaseing their involvement will only make things worse. Private insurance is just as bad as the governments insurance programs. Private insurance companies (at least in the US) exist to maximize their profits. That means that their primary function in our health care system is to be a leach that draws cash out of the patient care environment. It is therefore most ironic (moronic) that the latest batch of legislation aimed at fixing our healthcare system mandates that everyone must get insurance. They could have passed a law that mandated paying your medical bills and at least the health care provider would see the money, but instead Obama, in his great wisdom, mandated an increase to our problems.
I did not intend to say that the government directly tells the Dr what to do. Rather, by vertue of saying 'we only have so much money' they in effect dictate the quality of the health care that is available.
This is seen in the Patients to Dr ratio as compared between Canada and the US.
Canada - 470:1
US - 390:1
But, even if your system in Canada is better, by some metric of measuring health care, I still do not want our inept federal government messing up what health care we do have.
For many of us Americans, The debate over health care is not about quality or availability, but rather it is about who has the power to control quality and availablility of our health care. Socialized health care gives the government the power (through cash flow) to prescribe what our health care should be like. Given our current negative cash flow in the federal budgets I am not very optimistic about what health care will be like if we were to socialize that part of our society.
Our roads and schools receive most of their funding from state and local taxes. To sugest that this is an example of what Federal socialized health care would be like is very misleading.
I do not know if the grandparent post was refering to insecurity from the clients point of view or the servers. However, if the website depends on js for input validation then the website is fundamentaly insecure. If we are looking at security from the users perspective then I am mindfull of cross site scripting, an attack method that is #2 on the OWASP top 10 list. JS can be done correctly but the user has to trust not only the site they are visiting, but also every advertizement or other object that the page has requested from some outside source. As a web developer I know, as I think you do, that js can be made safe. You are technicaly correct that js is just a language. But, I suspect that even you realize that simply trusting all js that is loaded into your browser is inherently insecure.

Our millitary has testing grounds to fire real bullets at. The only reason to perform this exercise over civilians is to get some form of reaction from the civilian. It has worked. There are now many of us who believe that those who previously were considered crazy, are infact right. I am now convenced that our government is actively against us. Who could have imagined that the day would come when I would be affraid of my own government?

Season 1 Ep 4 - "The Naked Time" of the original Star Trek has all these qualifications and more. As a long time Trek fan, I honestly thought that this episode, more than any other, was the inspiration for the 2009 reboot. It was even the first Trek show to have time travel into the past.
I use gnome3 every day on my HP tc4400 tablet (it works great). I use xfce4 on my dualscreen desktop where it works better than gnome3 ever will. The developers of gnome3 are fixated on controling my experiance, and the forced 3d accelleration is simply not an option on my desktop machine. One example of the way the gnome3 devs have changed things for the worse is that "alt + tab" will not cycle through your windows any more. Instead (for some god awful retarded reason) they group windows of similar type. so when you want to copy something between two lowriter windows you can't use "alt + tab". It is (sadley) faster to move the mouse into the top left corner of the screen and then hunt for the other lowriter window among all the other shrunken windows. This is not "bitching because it doesn't work like the old software". This is a very real demonstration of how stupid some of the "features" of gnome3 are.
I noticed this too. I had always assumed that there were simply multiple ways of travel being sugested based on the fact that there were so many worlds who brought their technology to the galactic party. Some cultures on far away worlds developed "lightspeed" travel, while others found "hyperspace". The really mixed and divers galactic culture would have adopted both means of travel.
I have tried shopping at several second-hand stores and have found that their prices are way to high. I have priced garments that are priced around 75% the cost of a new garment. And what they sell is often well worn clothing that was donated after the death of a loved one to clean out the closets. These clothes should be sold at pennies on the dollar to help the local poor, but instead they are treated like gold. Economically, it is better to buy the new clothes and get a lot longer use out of them, than to save a buck or two on mostly worn out, over priced, second hand garments.
The only thing that that video has to do with gun shows is that it was at gun shows that the "private collectors" sold their guns. Dealers are required to get a federal background check. Private collectors are not required to do a background check before selling a gun. A private collector can sell you a gun with or without a gun show. Meaning that this is not a "gun show" loophole. This is simply the right of a property owner to sell his or her property.

It is hard to "demand" invasive practices if you can not find any one will to do them. I have gone to many gun shows, and I can tell you first hand that all dealers at gun shows will still require you to do a federal background check just like when you buy a gun at a store. Private citicens might be able to sell you a gun without a background check, but that can happen with or with out a gun show.
As a Texas resident, I can assure you that the opinion of what constitutes a "retarded" state is exactly the oposite here. It is most likely just a cultural difference, however when you compare the actual crime rates the differences are only a fraction of a percent between Texas and New York. This would seem to indicate that criminals will be criminals with or with out strict gun laws. I personal would rather have the ability to defend myself if I ever had the need.
If it is a learned behaviour then it can not be "encoded... into its genes". Some spider species care for their young. I do not know about this species in particular, but it is posible that the knowledge could be passed from one generation to the next through example. At any rate, this is either instinctual, a sign of generational (cultural) learning, or a demonstration of the intellect (reasoning skills) of these spiders. All the comments on this forum about how this is a sign of the wonders of evolution are simply wrong. It would be like saying that we are evolving everytime we create a new type of transportation.
