On the bright side (there is one), at least if you ever are prosecuted you can show your whereabouts pretty easily.
Not at all true. The GPS is not for YOU, it's for your CAR. So they know your car wasn't/was in a certain place. Doesn't mean you were at the same location as your car.
This in addition to those below who said the FBI likely wouldn't let you use this data.
This is true. I heard somewhere (hell it was probably on slashdot) that every single US citizen has broken at least one law in their lifetime, simply because of the confusing law code that exists in this country today.
Oh the irony. It kills.
Though notice AC didn't tell us which route, which petrol station, ect, so unless you know who that particular AC is (which I imagine is why it is posted "Anonymous"), that information is rather useless.
lol in other words you spent all that time arguing about the accuracy of a metaphor (which by nature are not precise anyway), only to conclude that you actually agree? This place is insane.
Ten minutes? You must be joking.
I've been waiting four hours already and it's just finished downloading packages.
Though I guess this being the first day, everyone else is hitting the server too, trying to update.
I think once the average citizen actually cannot say something like "my president is an assclown" without being thrown in jail is when we get a police state. AFAIK that hasn't happened yet, though I could be wrong...
Since no one else seems to have given a useful answer here....
An email address is easily traced back to the domain it came from. At the company I work for, the domain is either one of our own email domains we give to customers or a hosted domain. All hosted domains point to our company. If someone wants to find out what customer is using an email they send us a subpoena request, then we look up the customer account based on domain/email address (which are records we are required by law to have).
I will (and have) refused to honor subpoena requests that didn't come attached with a judge's signature, so it's at least as difficult as getting a judge to sign off on something. You can decide for yourself how easy that is;)
Manning is a soldier, not a civilian. The rights that apply to civilians (ie the right to a trial) don't apply to him. I agree he should be tried, convicted of terrorism, and sentenced to a firing squad. But there is no law that says he has to be.
Yes you could. If the "=" shows up inside a loop or if statement then handle as comparison (would have two meanings if you were handling for-loops as well) and if not, it stands for assignment. You're assuming the fictional language represented needs to allow for assignment inside if statements/loops as well. While this is a useful thing to have, granted, you can't assume that said language implements it.
While I agree that the material should have been disclosed, the fact is THAT WAS NOT UP TO MANNING TO DECIDE. I also believe his punishment is fully justified. What if he had released something that really should be classified? The line needs to be drawn somewhere, but a single soldier doesn't have that duty or that right.

I'm pretty sure an amendment was written about this....

If the dispute is amongst citizens of the same nation, its known as a "civil war". A little bit uglier term, for a lot of people.
Anybody know if Postfix does proper SQL quoting?
I don' t know for sure, but I would certainly hope something as widely used as Postfix would properly sanitize database input.
Agreed. The majority of corporations do not revolve around the whims of their technical support staff.
Keep your eyes on Wikileaks....
This is a good point. I hadn't thought of that.
Despite being modded funny, this is actually a very good point, and something I for one am rather concerned about.

Welcome to slashdot :)

Your point is valid and correct but I think they were more talking about the software for decrypting, rather than the data itself.
I'm pretty sure by ban he meant an entry in an .htaccess file banning the IP, not a line in a text file saying "please keep out"
Now that is a good point. Someone (else) should test it out.
Or to pay more attention to previews...
That IS why they're there...

And on the electee's time and dollar, not the tax payer's.
And that's why it will never happen.
Since no one else seems to have given a useful answer here....

While I agree with you, and I'm sure many other slashdotters do, remember that the average human being isn't able to make that distinction yet.
Dumbest meme OF ALL TIME!
It's a meme. By definition it's going to be dumb.
"Forgive me, but I work fine with vi"
;)
You are forgiven
