Perhaps I didn't look hard enough, but the only HP laptops I can see that are comparable on the high end are the ENVY or Elitebooks and both of them can run up to $2000.
"Its not expensive, its just high quality"
Cheap as possible components? You mean like Intel chips? Oh right.
Maybe because it is high quality? Check all the PC laptop equivalents, all the ones that are "cheeper" have noticeably poorer components, all the ones that are actually competitive are in the same price range or even higher.
There's a difference between cheap and value, and its a thousand dollars extra or so. You can get a high end windows PC with similar specs for around 1200 instead.
You mean a put-it-together-yourself PC Desktop? Sure, you can get great stuff for a low price. DIY PCs are awesome. Laptops on the otherhand... Apples Laptops are kinda the cream of the crop.
SGA did have a lot more interesting "Science" though IMO. SG1 wasn't all to creative about the scenarios presented (bla bla bla more jaffa, bla bla bla another primitive tribe) vs all of the interesting ancient tech stuff the SGA team runs into.
And they had more CG space battles++
I do agree that all the other characters besides McCay are kinda shallow, though I absolutely love McCay.
Well said.
Anon it just a group like any other, it's rather amusing that so many buy into and spout the slogan that it's somehow invincible and invisible.
No, it's not. I've seen both in action, and they're perceptually identical. I see this argument a lot, and the people who make it are simply pulling it out of their ass.

Take a look at the images at the end. There is a very distinct blockyness in the v8 images compared to that of H.264. Every v8 video i've seen is inferior to it's H.264 counterpart.
Now if you want to argue that the difference is pretty small in the long run, I'd agree. But as it stands now, H.264 is superior.
But I don't accept that premise. There's absolutely nothing to indicate that space travel is going to get radically better/cheaper. If you don't agree, name some promising technology that's going to get us there.
Space Elevator, that would make space travel overwhelmingly cheaper.
The whole thing about space travel/exploration/colonies is that it's a giant catch-22.
"Without a space elevator, having a colony is expensive!"
"What good is a space elevator if you don't have any colonies in space to go to?"
And when people look at the up-front cost of building both they get sticker shock without considering the long-term profits. (Which is what you're trying to describe)
NASA has had massive problems with sticker shock, ever since the moon program they haven't been able to just "Stick with it"... killing shuttle replacement programs after they've already soaked up billions, killing the moon plan after it soaked up a lot etc etc. I wish they'd get around to bitting the bullet and actually getting something DONE. anyway,/rant against nasa mode off:P
Also, in terms of the longer run:
Land. Sure it's desolate now, but if terraformed there's a whole lot of prime real estate to be made out of mars.
Terraforming. Has the potential to become a pretty big business to make said land valuable.
Amen to that.
SG1 and Atlantis had amazing characters that turned an otherwise B-movie series into something worth watching. Jack O'Niell, Vala Mal Doran, and Rodney Mckay are heroes to me. SGU on the other hand completely fails to have anyone remotely comparable to make the show light-hearted and fun, and instead of having enough character depth to make a serious drama interesting, it just resorts to pointless bickering over irrelevant points to try and cook up false drama.
I found Lightwave/Modo to be incredibly easy to pick up from scratch and do amazing things with.
Maya was a bit more tricky though, a lot of the default interface isn't immediately intuitive until you read through it a bit.
While Legos are the obvious choice, model kits (airplane / spaceship / etc) can be pretty engaging. I had many fond hours putting together and painting Fighter Jet models. 5 years might be a little early to start on that though, more suited for 7+.
