On the one hand, this might be more terrifying than any hurricane could ever be! On the other, can Disney fubar up the franchise any worse than Lucas has done...?
At least Disney knows how to tell a story, if nothing else. And after all, SW is just a fairy tale with a slap of space opera sci-fi on top.

Hey, so long as there are no muppets & the main actors are over 10, I'll probably see it. I saw my 1st Imperial Star Destroyer explode onto the screen at 12, so Disney may just take me back to that galaxy that now seems so far, far away, after Lucas got through with it *grumble*...

I rather like the _idea_ of the Venus Project, with its resource-based economic model, but don't let any holier-than-thou atheists around here hear you using that 'Z' word! ;)
Even so, we can't be sure that neo-socialist, resource-based, uber-techno societies won't implode under some other weight. Imagine a society of sociopaths who want for *nothing*, never have to leave the safety of their zero-G couches, where everything is dished out via the Matrix (under our control of course)...what would be left for these simians to aspire to, why would they create art, or do anything altruistic for the betterment of mankind or even just employ rational/critical reasoning I ask you? More likely we would all become serial killers or torture each other just for our hedonistic pleasure, as history has shown us time & time again.

Even though I personally don't believe that Man can save himself any longer (or ever could - hey it's Biblical! ;), I continue to place some measure of faith in our species, for no other reason than that I can't except a universe that a creator may have created, 14+ billion LYs across, that we were never meant to explore or experience, anthropic principle be damned! <G>

In any case, SV is just a reflection & extension of our society as a whole, just another symptom of what may be the beginning of the end, if we're not past the point of no return already..??? (who says every discussion post can't end with a ? ? :)

Enterprise was watered down, sanitised crap, which is why it died the death it deserved halfway thru S4.

Now, T'Pol vs 7of9 - there's an argument no one is going to win! ;)
(I agree on the doctor in Ent, especially after the masterful job Picardo did in Voyager).

Of course, we dodged the 'Star Fleet Academy 90210' bullet with Enterprise, so perhaps we should be thankful for at least that! *shudder*

Just started watching it from start again recently with the Mrs (for about the 7th time!). Virtually every character is interesting & fun to watch, even if annoying at times, whereas in TNG I found half the cast annoying as hell! DS9 was ok from about season 4, but I tried going back to S1 about a year ago & nearly lost an eye! :)

BUT, I concede that the world was a bit different & less 'open' or switched on about sex some 30+ years ago *sigh*. At the risk of getting stoned (the biblical kind), it's almost a shame HIV doesn't have a number of visible symptoms before it turns to AIDS, such as blue pimples all over your face, or turning your hair really dorky...THAT would probably do a helluva lot more to educate the young popsicles than any efforts of us old farts trying to pass on our wisdom or experience heh.

Here's a parallel principal: I've never been to the US, in fact I only have other people's (who may or may not in fact exist) word & indirect evidence/observation that it does exist. I will call this the memethropic principle, so because it now has a fancy name, it must be true! QED.
