So do you support Bush's declaring US citizens enemy combatants and holding them in naval brigs with no legal representation, and sending Canadian citizens to be tortured in Syria?
Just to be clear, since you seem to be defending him fairly assiduously, do you agree with the president on this? Stand and be counted if you do.
I am not suggesting for a minute that this is only Bush. Clinton's Justice Department was pushing this crap too - and he was the one pushing Clipper Chip and encryption controls, so he was no friend of freedom either.
At least Al Gore seems to have "moved on" from those days and taken a stand in favor of freedom (more in opposition to the outrageous Bush "enemy combatant" designation than the Patriot Act, but this is definitely in the category of Bush's refusal to respect basic civil rights.) And Howard Dean, whom I support for President, has as well. So there are alternatives, even if there weren't previously.
So you think Vidal is an idiot (debatable). What is your position then on Bush's assault on the Constitution? Do you support the wholesale destruction of our freedoms that Bush is presiding over? Stand up and be counted if you really think this is better for the republic.
Did I ask for a single sign-on to a bunch of unrelated sites? No!
I'd much rather control my own damn info and type the CC # into a lot of individual forms than have sites share my data. (Anyway, this problem is solved by browsers' auto-form-fill and auto-password features.)
I find it very hard to believe that it will be ruled illegal. (Of course, the DeCSS ruling sort of found some code to be illegal, but that cat is well out of the bag now and is as well for programs other than DeCSS that have been the subject of legal harassment based on the DMCA.)
But even if it is found illegal, so what? It will be a very long time before there are no countries in the world willing to distribute something like this. And if it becomes a standard part of common Linux distributions (for example), it will be damn hard to shut down.
There's no encryption key. The broadcast flag is just that - a flag with instructions on what to allow recording of. GNU Radio, current pre-broadcast flag hardware, and future non-compliant tools (call it "Capture The Flag?") will happily ignore it. Just like the current no-copy bit on CDs, which is universally ignored.
McDonald's Menu Song on your iPod? Now that's the sign of a true fan.
I will admit to something similar, though, many years ago. They had a cute ad on the radio about breakfast sandwiches ("You're working overtime") and I taped it on one of those mix-tapes we used to make back before MP3s. Got over it though.
was that they're giving away McDonald's jingles as the songs.
You can pick new-skool hits like "I'm lovin' it" and "We love to see you smile," or go back to the old days with "At McDonald's, we do it all for you," "Keep your eyes on your fries," and "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun."
Perhaps Coca-Cola will get in on the deal? "Ain't nothing but the real thing," "Coke is it!," "I'd like to teach the world to sing" and of course "Always Coca-Cola" are big hits in the beverage world.
I HATE the Acrobat Reader plugin. It is painfully slow for Mozilla, and the Stop button doesn't work. Many is the time I have mistakenly clicked on a pdf link and wasted minutes waiting for the damn thing to render.
Your (or some Brit's) tax dollars at work. Sometimes they suck too but I find them to be slightly more "fair and balanced" than the corporate networks.
RIAA member Time Warner is reporting that millions of people have deleted all the music files from their computers.

My screen randomly pops open about 20% of the time when I leave the powerbook on my desk. I end up putting a stapler or notebook on top of it to keep it closed. Anyone else have that problem?
It's why I haven't used iTMS yet. On principle I object to Apple or anyone else controlling media I have purchased. So I stick with CDs and MP3s ripped by me for my iPod (which I use daily).

the biggest bunch of fucking censoring yet unable to spell hypocrites, thank YOU very much.

It makes buyers feel important. "Deploying Enterprise Linux" sounds fancier than "Installing Linux." Simple as that.
This business-model deserves to die a painful, CueCat-style death.
Okay, but MPlayer is "not quite legal" yet it is the standard movie player for Linux, and becoming so for Mac. These things can be worked around.

The point is that corporate america does *get it,* and they are trying to avoid selling said rope. Failing, but trying.

You know, the platform has advanced a bit since that time. You might want to give it another look.
I had heard of such a thing, but the guy from Red Hat told me to switch to Windows.
no it won't. this is slashdot.

On this issue, yes. CNN has a much worse conflict of interest.
They're all crap though. This is just a really good case in point.
