IANAME, but what concerns me over this demonstration is that I do not see any work being generated by the output of this device. All the energy put into the system (from the main and secondary motors) seems to do is to spin an unconnected output shaft - so in effect the practical efficiency of the demo unit is zero.
My gut feeling is that spinning the secondary motor when loading the primary motor is going to take a lot more energy than is implied in the TFA and TFV.
This is just a diagnostics test. It won't kill anyone. The FDA should let the market sort this things out and not get in the way of progress.
So you have no problem with unregulated and unproven testing being marketed to a public which does not have the smarts to figure out that they are being ripped off by a fear driven marketing campaign?
Or as another choice - you don't care if the swabs used are black plague laden - because black plague laden swabs are more convenient and cheaper for the testing company to supply?
For once the Slashdot summary seemed to be even more politically charged and biased than the actual politician. The correct message is to manage your time well and exercise caution. Sound advice actually.
I'm confused now - is slashdot part of the leftwing mainstream media conspiracy? Or is it part of the right wing independent news sources conspiracy (which are too small to be called mainstream, yet command a huge listening audience)??
Australia wasn't founded by criminals. It was founded by wardens.
Actually the Aboriginals founded it first, then the Dutch floundered on it, followed by Cook floundering on the other side of it and only then did it get founded by criminals - you think for a moment that the wardens actually did the work to build up the colony??
Beside which it was an American comedian, so he was lucky enough to just get to a country outside of the US, let alone not get the pedantry right
Can a TSA employee be arrested for child porn if the cops catch him just as a minor is walking through the scanner?
I would submit a half-arsed guess that just like a police officer can legally get away with murder in the pursuit of his/her employment, that a TSA officer can also get away with looking at naked people of all ages in the pursuit of his/her job. However that does depend on the legal system having built in the correct protections - such as female officers only viewing females etc.
So, yes, unless they are taxing you on some service, then you shouldn't be taxed at all. So make sure you read the fine print for some "Supplier services fee".
Australia has the GST - Goods and Services Tax which applies to anything you provide as a business - except for certain food stuffs, etc which exempt.
that someone made the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) simple. Or did the writer mean something else? He never did say.
Its rare that I'd want an anonymous coward modded up, but he/she has a point. Nowhere in this review does it say what the acronym CMS stands for. You can argue that this is a tech site and that CMS is a common acronym, or you can use google - but its a piss poor review that assumes that you know what they are reviewing or makes you do extra work to find out what they are reviewing.
I know some people like the ribbon, but I really, really hate it.
I have never liked the ribbon for Excel or *cough* Access as I was always trying to hunt down under which context sensitive section I could find what I needed. But late last year I was using a 3rd party graphics drawing program that used a ribbon. And to my surprise I actually like how it was done. So now I am of the opinion that a ribbon interface *can* be a good idea, but that not all programs can benefit from it.
Wait till you hear from pseudo-professionals who would trash GIMP at any given opportunity. Clearly, GIMP was ahead of PS on this so called revolutionary concept, but nobody made a big fuss about it. And then hell broke loose when PS announced it - the earlier thread on it was full of multiple orgasms by the same 'professionals'.
[Puts on pseudo-intellectual trolling suit, with built in PS orgasm attachment]
Yeah.. but can the GIMP do it on 16 bit or CMYK Images?!?!??!!?;-)
> Cotton is evil because of the large amount of water required for production.
Well, it's pretty much either that or making your clothes out of OIL.
There a zillion other fibrous plants to use, and who says we have to wear clothes at all;-). However somewhere along the way someone is going to have to make the decision about whether a scare commodity (fresh water) is better used for making clothes or for drinking.
Ah yes . the myth of the "Free Market is best" argument. Simplistic, naive and dangerous.
A totally free and unregulated market gives you the Thalidomide, the Ford Pinto, lead paint in children's toys, contaminated pet food and (the latest one) contaminated Chinese dry wall. Why should the government regulate things, as after all the market will sort things out eventually.
And government gives you Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Pol Pot, and if you're so inclined, Bush.
Government with evil intentions makes private enterprise look downright saintly.
And there is no middle ground! Both of you are idiots. Stop demonizing each other. You are BOTH what is wrong with the political debate in this country. Take a step back, find some common ground, and go from there.
You do realize that we are talking about different forms of corruption - and I actually agree with him that a corrupt government is worse than a corrupt company.
Thalidomide - Prior to this event drug companies were not required to test drug safety during pregnancy. There are even allegations that the company marketing it in the US was handing out the drug even though it had been not yet granted approval. Yes the regulation came after the fact, but my point was that the drug company didn't self regulate when it came to testing the drug - they had to be forced into it
Ford Pinto - yes a reasonable car, and statistically did not really kill that many people above normal road deaths. However, Ford did the calculation that $Cost to fix the defect was greater than the $cost in lawsuits. If they had self regulated then those people who *did* suffer as a result of the defect would not have suffered. Again the company did not self-regulate in the interests of the consumer.
Chinese goods - yep the communist system there can produce crappy goods. But it is regulation in other countries that protects *their* citizens that then limits the abuses that Chinese companies can foster on them
Do you see a pattern here? Companies that don't self-regulate for the good of the consumer have to be forced into regulation. Yes the free market will do that in the long term, however in the interim damage is done that could have been avoided
Yeah I read TFA.. but I can point out an exception to "the good guys only use macs". In one of the robocop movies (#2?? I know I never saw #3 or anything later if there was anything??) the robocop interface is shown as DOS like, but his nemesis is shown having a mac like interface.
Wouldn't that make it stellar in stead of solar? Unless the sun have gone nova since I last checked *looks out of the window* No, it is still shining. So if it has gone nova, it is less then 8 minutes ago.
(mutter mutter mutter) damn pedants (mutter mutter mutter) ruining a good post (mutter mutter mutter)
Actually, a lot of the Texas wind potential is up around Lubbock & Amarillo. Not exactly desert, but not far from it. It's actually the one of the biggest cotton producing regions in the US.
Well thats it then. Cotton is evil because of the large amount of water required for production. Given the fights that are starting in the SW of the US over water then it makes sense to transition from cotton to wind power.
It doesn't "chill" me. I want the Blue states to regulate themselves into a corner and push business and development elsewhere.
Except the book isn't about states rights. Its about people abusing the rights of others in order to further their nimby desires. This is not a red/blue states issues and I suggest you actually read the book
The question is, does it matter if we pull out the solar energy before it turns to wind energy or will the lack of wind energy be harmful. It's one thing to take energy from wind that's already blowing around but different than taking it before it blows.
Have you ever compared the amount of solar energy falling on the planet with human energy usage? I don't know the exact figures but its a tad biased towards the solar energy side of numbers.

Can anyone enlighten me as to why I am wrong?
And surely there is law against using black plague laden swabs...
And I'd suggest that the FDA was responsible for that

If he had gone to his HR dept. but he didn't, now he's the one with the charges against him.
To parphrase a previous comment
And these are the people who are meant to be protecting us??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Bring bratwurst when flying.
Protip .. watch This is Spinal Tap for what to do at airports

What is their deal? Their motto seems to be "The consumer is always a criminal". It's weird.
Well, since Australia used to be a penal colony, that kind of makes some kind of twisted sense.
I can't remember the comedian who said this, but:
I'd rather live in a country founded by criminals, than one founded by puritans
Having lived in both places I totally agree with him

I know what I pointed out was a historical quirk, but it amused me at the time to recognize the joke embedded in the movie.
Anyone got a mirror?
Believe me .. in this case the slashdotting is a benefit and not a drawback

Technically, every energy source besides nuclear is solar power.
I dunno, you could even make a claim that nuclear is a form of solar, as the heavy elements are a by product of the star process.
The question is, does it matter if we pull out the solar energy before it turns to wind energy or will the lack of wind energy be harmful. It's one thing to take energy from wind that's already blowing around but different than taking it before it blows.

Yep .. people with no regulation can be complete bastards
However in the case of governments, the regulation process is called "elections"
