    Simple automation programming is so obvious I just can't imagine how incompetent the decision makers in these organizations must be.

    Possibly because the applications are not "simple" and perhaps because you have never dealt with a bureaucracy of any reasonable size. Its not that individuals are dumb, its the cumulative effect of lots of people not having the 100% best picture

    I just ran a search for WiFi in the app store, and plenty of free finders appeared.

    TFA mentioned 3 apps, and gave the reason for one of them as being because they used a private API. Maybe its just a PO'd or two developer beating up a story?

    There are plenty of crytographic algorithms that have no known flaws which have had implementations broken via side channel attacks, due to flaws in the implementation, not the algorithm.

    While I agree with you, I just want to go a bit philosophical and suggest that the robustness of the physical system is just as important as the algorithm when determining how flawed or not something like a security system is. Which is basically a "weakest link" consideration.

    Given that organized crime seems to be paying off minimum wage clerks to install card skimmers in gas pumps, wouldn't it be logical that minimum wage admins at co-lo facilities would also be vulnerable to the same vector - $$$$

    Back years ago I read a book where the good/Bad guys got a suitcase sized AI to break down and confess by cycling its power to the point where it couldn't take it any more.

    Good to see reality starting to mimic fiction

    BTW Can anyone tell me the title? About the only other main thing I remember about it was helicopter pilots being blinded by laser strikes.

    I know I sure as hell am. The price of entry is the only thing that has stopped me from getting an eReader.

    Having played around with a B&N Nook and one of the Sony ones, the slow speed of the page changing drove me nuts. I realize that it is a feature/side effect of e-ink, but I can't ever see myself getting used to the whole flashing/slow page turning thing. No matter what the price.

    I think the word you are actually looking for is something like "erroneously" or "stupidly". It seems like the copyrights were properly assigned.

    No he really does mean "president". You see, now that Bill isn't there, Microsoft has this big tank of goop out in the back, and whenever they need a new VP to make a bold policy change they open a valve and flow the goop into a person shaped mould. Then they have to let it harden or "set". After which time they decant the new president and set him to work

    Thus the OP was expressing his concern for the Zombie like creatures that this policy has brought to (semi) life

    YouTube is increasingly becoming an important tool, especially in marketing and training. For example, search for "PMP Certification", "ITIL", "iso 9000" on YouTube. Not to mention any number of technical skill areas.

    I have no idea why you were modded as Troll (or me as redundant - what the hell was that meant to mean??). While I was actually trying for humor in my post, I agree that YouTube has some excellent marketing and training videos. Seeing a decent presentation of a product sure beats reading though pages of manuals

    That's your opinion, of course, but remember that the profit motive, more than anything else, drives technology...

    And from what I understand a lot of boobie type Apps had filled up the top 20 downloads etc. So Steve the Savior is getting rid of profitable Apps? *Gasp* does that mean Steve is really a Commie in disguise and as such the Anti-Christ?? Oh noes, Steve is both Savior and Anti-Christ all rolled into one!?!!?!?!?!?!?!

    Protecting their brand is one thing, removing some apps (but leaving others) under the guise of "think of the children" is another.

    I believe that in NC you are legally allowed to be a topless on the beach. I this dug up in google TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C

    The interesting thing is this quote:

    The only people up in arms are sleazy dudes out to make a quick buck off of someone else's boobies.

    They've had their day and nothing of value has been lost.

    So all the apps that were pulled for collateral damage are nothing important? (See above post for the Bikini seller that had the app pulled - and that wasn't the only one)

    Also compare this with Apples statement when questioned over why SI and Playboy didn't have their apps pulled - "Because they were established brands". So Old porn is good, but new porn is not???

    Or what about the "iWobble boobs" (or whatever it was called - and yep terrible juvenile name) which didn't supply content - you had to download and add your own content. That is like last year when the eBook reader was not approved because you could download the Karma Sutra

    I can understand why some people want to remove some lower common denominator apps from the App store, but the heavy handed manner in which Apple did this does smack of censorship, and they had to be aware of what they were doing

    What is the reason for you doing this? Is it a benefit to your friends and family or is it simply stroking your own ego? Because if it is the latter, no matter what our good intentions are then it will be doomed because no matter how alike the Linux distro looks to Windows, it will be different and that will cause issues.

    If you can demonstrate a definite benefit to switching then it won't matter what the system you choose looks like

    Otherwise if you want a system that looks, feels and behaves like windows, then you might as well stick with windows

    On November 11, 2009, Plaintiffs were for the first time informed of the above-mentioned capability and practice by the School District when Lindy Matsko, an Assistant Principal at Harriton High School, informed minor Plaintiff that the School District was of the belief that minor Plaintiff was engaged in improper behavior in his home, and cited as evidence a photograph from the webcam embedded in minor Plaintiff’s personal laptop issued by the School District.

    From the way I read this, a lot of people are quoting the plaintiff's version of what the vice principal said (and probably from the lawsuit), not quoting the vice principal himself. To me that counts as hearsay and is not reliable.
