Man you make a lot of sense. If I could, I would have modded your comment up. See, I've been chatting it up on some boards and stuff, and the same thing comes out every time. If more people used Mac, it would be better, and it is getting better; so switch, and bring everyone you know with you.

I mean write and compile; but more importantly: how hard is it to get things to work on the Mac, compared to the pain-in-the-arse windows systems logic can be -- specificially media programming.

Being PC-centric. Is this going to be a Carbon contraption, or are you going to do it right, in Cocoa?

When Id Software releases their source code, we're going to revise it heavily and compile it for Mac, if possible. My guess is I'll be writing for PC compiling, and then using some kind of porting binary to port it to Mac. I'd like to skip this step and compile straight to Mac, and have a separate build for Windows systems.

You also risk never being able to return to a PC again. You'll be totally spoiled.

Every time I use a Mac I feel spoiled rotten, so it's funny you should mention that. I think this would be a good thing, and I'm looking forward to it. :)

I would be using the Mac primarily for level design, texture and cinematics. I wonder... any news on a Mac level design proggie for DooM 3? Maybe there's something on qeradiant.com, but I'm guessing it's going to be a while before the tools come out for DooM 3. Maybe a month or two after it releases.

Are there any good tutorial sites for gamers like myself who want to switch ?

I figure, if John Carmack is coding DooM 3 on a Mac, then it must be all that, right?

I can't keep from getting angry when I hear these kinds of totally false statements that Microsoft solves bugs quickly.

It wouldn't be so bad I guess, if it was from some lowly person like me saying it off the cuff, but to hear it from that totally rich bastard Bill Gates say it, really makes my blood boil. He's made all his money on lies, deception and hoodwinkery!

The sad thing is that many people believe him, because he's rich -- not because he is correct.

Microsoft's approach to solving bugs is this:
    1. If it's broken, ignore it until it does major damage (because so much is broken, and you can make much more money on big disasters).

    2. If it's NOT broken, fix it so you can sell the new version of it, and make more money, since if it's not broken, you must know how it works enough to change it so that it requires a new boxed version.

    3. Repeat and feel free to interchange 1 & 2 after each step, because breaking the product is acceptable, since the public expects it sometimes.

I think this is EXACTLY what we need to combat the RIAA. Cheap songs, cheap albums. Not only that, you may find artists putting more top-notch tracks on their albums, since people will likely pick and choose the songs they want.

If more online stores like this opened up, I think we'd see a lot less illegal p2p (not that I care).

  24. Duh on 142 Directors Appeal MPAA to Repeal Screener Ban · · Score: 4, Insightful

Screeners comprise only about 49.847723% of the actual pirated software on the net. It's like this because it's convenient for pirates to snag a copy of the film and use it, before the film is released.

Banning screeners would mean that the industry is starting to cave in from the piracy movement. Is that what you want? Do you want Hollywood to crumble? But wait a minute.

Ten dollars for a bag of popcorn and a pop?

Five dollars for a box of candy?

Maybe there is more here than meets the eye! Maybe it's not that pirates want to ruin Hollywood. Maybe the public is saying somthing to the movie industry about other possible reforms that should be considered.

Like going to the theater when there are a couple of goofs talking through the whole movie. Or when some smelly guys wears flip-flops that are five years old, and sits near you while he adjusts his seat every five seconds.

The whole experience of the movies has declined since the eighties, while a lot of other industries have improved (like the video game industry).

Banning screeners is the way to go, if you want to hurt the little indy film maker, but maybe some smart person will release their films ONLY to the internet, and become the next Bill Gates.

Agreed. I didn't buy any Ebooks because I could tell they were scamming the masses. The fast method of production to consumption meant that it was so very cheap to produce an ebook, and the fact that they didn't drop the price from real books that much, really stuck in my craw. I felt that the publishers were just adept at hiding the real motivation behind ebooks; to change their industry and make it 10x more profitable at the expense of the public. The fact nobody bought into that philosophy by supporting ebooks, is likely a result of karma. :)
