    They provide DNS too. But their web site is full of ads for other services they sell, it is anoying but for the price difference it's worth it ( i do not do many changes to DNS anyway).

    By the way I recently tranfered a domain form Register.com to GodDaddy, before the tranfser was made i recieve email and a phone call from register.com. they offered me the same price a godaddy to stay there. So if you like there service (which is better than go daddy) but not the price, just start a tranfer and canel it after they offer you a better price :)

    Well the software projects I worked on changed a lot from beta to to release, but then again it was smaller companies than microsoft and smaller projects than windows.

    Well with so much business using the web now it's become impossible to do that. Imagine the lost revenues for AOL, Amazone, Google etc. $1 from an idiot is worth the same a $1 from anybody else, and is probably easier to get.

    The reason the do these XYZ things now is because sales were going down, you got it backward.

    I loved the generic blocks when i was i kid but it does not seems to interest most of the kids nowdays.

    Their imagination is overloaded by constant publicity for XYZ on TV.

    Just imagine that:
    if visual source safe was the best SCM tool on the market and MS provided a free license for open source projects, do you think Linus would have used it? do you think it would have been accepted by the kernel developers? do you think that the arguments to not used is would have been the same as for bitkeeper?

    The same thing would have happened, a lot of people new it from the begining that would happen. this was not pragmatism it was not seeing further than immediate return, not thinking about the long term.

    Monetary interest. It has nothing to do with any kind of mythology.

    Yes it happened to Ford and to the Body Shop also, they did not get sued but the founder lost control after they went public and the good stuff she was doing with the profit was mostly stopped.

    it does not matters, they invested money and the google admintrator are entrusted to make their investment fructify. Otherwise the administrators could vote that all the money comming from stock go into their personal bank accounts as a gift from google and no investor could do nothing about it.

    Google is now a publicly traded company. So by law they must put their stockholders interest above all. If their phylantropic action just spends money without any return on investment (tax, public image, publicity) they are liable to be sued by stock holders. The "Do no evil" mantra is now meaningless.

    The US look more and more like the schollyard bully, no brains, all muscle. that work for a while to dominate ( schoolyard or world) but it the long run you get outsmarted.

    If you have the source you can hire another programmer if the original one starts to charge too much. With closed source you have to migrate to a diffrent program.
